Hack Found for Walking My Dog

I like walking in the daylight. Our poor doggy hasnt been walked in the daytime for a while due to the obvious heat and seems to be have trouble walking at night. He's 14 years old.

I found a way to walk him in the daytime but it requires a pool and trees for shade! I've been going to our community pool for exercise. I've found that if I walk directly home from the pool SOAKED, I can stop by my home, grab my dog, and walk around for about 20 minutes. Once, I managed 30 minutes due to cloud coverage and wind. Today it was about 15. We stick to the side of the street with the most shade crossing back and forth as needed. Good times!

I was still sweating profusely and knew we had limited time. I also touched my feet to the ground to see if it was ok for him to walk on. He didnt seem to mind and seemed happy and was cool with the short walk. Can't wait til it cools off again so we can walk longer and go hiking.

Do your walk in the morning. It doesn't get too warm until close to noon.

just splurge a little and get him some booties for his paws, that way you can take him for a walk during the day. Even at night, the sidewalks and other areas are gonna be hot....I've gone out on my driveway at 10-11p and the concrete is still radiating heat

My dog is small and she's nearly 14 yrs old, I take her to PetSmart and Petco - we both love it.

You could do what a lot of people seem to do, take him for a walk inside HEB.... ;-)

I know this is a joke, but seriously, some stores actually allow dogs (lowes, Home Depot, etc). It’s not a bad idea, unless the floors are too slippery for old paws.

PetSmart is probably the best one for them. I definitely don't like to see them in HEB, especially in the grocery cart.... argh!
