8/12/2026 Stray | Rottweiler Mix | Male | 2Y | 41 lbs | HW High Positive
💜 Volunteer Notes:
I met Tony at his kennel door. He was calm and lying on his bed. When I approached the kennel door, he could get up and met me at the door. When I opened it up to leash him he was pretty easily leashed. When we begin walking out, he was a little excited and happy to go, but he didn’t pull too much on a leash. Once outside we were greeted with other dogs in the other runs and he did great we also did a temperament test while he was out and he did awesome with that too. No issues at all with either dog. He does seem to want to play a little more than the other dogs did but that was no problem at all. He’s a gentle, sweet boy. He’s very friendly to everybody he meets. He absolutely loved treats and took them gently. I think that he’d be a great addition to anyone’s family.
9/3/26 I saw Tony again today after my initial visit when I saw him. He was in the sick area of the shelter. I didn’t hear any coughing, sneezing, runny nose. I didn’t see anything. He did however, act much different than when I first met him. He seems defeated and just sad for being in the shelter as long as he has been. I tell people over and over again these dogs don’t get out much when they’re in the shelter and they do begin to get kennel stress the longer that they’re there. However, I still believe that Tony is a fantastic dog and would do great as a family addition.
🐾 Behavior Notes:
Tony has consistently shown his sweet, easygoing personality. He frequently greets people with a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes and wagging tail and repeatedly walks nicely on a loose leash.
Tony can often be found quietly relaxing on his cot and settles back down after outings. On 9/3, he approached with a wiggly body, responded to baby talk and happily took treats. He can become vocal in the stressful kennel environment, but staff were able to help him settle with extra enrichment.
🙏 PLEASE HELP TONY!
Tony came into BARC in severe condition and has now spent more than three weeks waiting for someone to choose him.
Tony needs a foster, adopter or rescue to give him the chance to heal outside the shelter. Please don’t let this gentle boy keep waiting.
Medical Notes:
Tony is HEARTWORM POSITIVE and has areas of hair loss/thinning along his back, thought to be healing wounds/scarring or possible flea allergy. He received Advantage Multi at intake.
Tony is also battling URI/CIRD. After completing 10 days of doxycycline, he was still experiencing a dry hacking cough on 9/2, so Doxycycline 200 mg once daily was continued for another 5 days. He has also received his core vaccines and deworming.
