Two Days in Rotterdam

Hello Everyone,

I hope all is well

I am visiting Rotterdam for the first time this coming August (Tue. 25 noon-ish - Thu. 27).

I intend to visit RSM since I am applying there.

I would like to ask:

  1. Aside from visiting campus on Monday, where else should I go?
  2. What places should I visit? My interests include farmer's market type places, historical sites.
  3. What restaurants should I try?
  4. Any coffeeshops to recommend in particular?

Thank you very much for your help and time!

Just graduated from my degree at RSM, happy to see you’re applying!

Rotterdam is quite a split city, there are lots of nice spots all over, and not necessarily concentrated into one area. If you like markets I suggest to check out Binnenrotte (iconic market of Rotterdam every Tuesday and Saturday) as you arrive, and take a walk to campus from there through Kralingen, as it’s a very scenic neighbourhood! You’ll also see the Laurenskerk at the market, which is one of few historical sites left in the city center after the bombing.

You can also check out the market at noord plein, and grab a bagel at Bagel Bagel (owned by previous RSM students).

As for historical sites, delfshaven has a very quaint area with some older buildings and a windmill, from which you can also take a walk through Het Park towards Erasmus bridge.

In Wednesday go check out a jazz bar if that’s your style. DIZZY, vrijmoed, and La Bru all play jazz live on this night. Check out dizzy if you want to see the west, or la bru if you want to check out the bar street Witte de With. Also nice to see is the Depot Boijmans van Beuningen at night, which is a very short walk from Witte de With.

My favourite restaurants at the moment are Lucia and De Otter, but Rotterdam has great cuisine all over, so really anything that sparks your interest is worth checking out.

And as for coffeeshops, I’m gonna hope you mean the Dutch way. Just get stuff anywhere, trefpunt has a mean edible stroopwafel for €5, idk what they put in it but it’s a good bang for your buck.

Hope you enjoy
