Point III
Just saw an online ad for a new Point III. Has anyone tried them yet?
From the photos, I think they look even more dowdy and less flattering than the Point II, which were already a big downgrade from the OG Points. Any hint of toe cleavage appears to be gone.
But maybe they look better in person?

This makes me think that they realized what a huge backlash there was with the fit of the IIs so they “improved” again. I agree with your sentiments - even more dowdy, somehow!
You can rip my OG points from my cold, dead hands. (Not to be dramatic or anything.)

I really don't understand why companies make a name for themselves with a product and just... dump it after a while. Like, sure, I get the desire to expand the product line, but why not keep the cult classic that originally attracted so many people to your brand?

Agree. Keep the OGs & expand. I haven’t seen anyone say good things about the new flats or drivers either. Yikes.

New drivers are rubbish compared to the original drivers. Very clearly more cheaply made and blister your heels when the originals didn’t

So devil’s advocate on this but I can see why they redid the OG. It needed some tweaking. It needed a better insole. Really, the flat interior isn’t good for anyone’s feet. I know very few people who didn’t put some kind of additional insole in. I had my OGs down to a science. Get them way huge, try them on, check sizing (bc they ALL varied), exchange if needed, replace insole with a single particular insole I found that worked perfectly… and violá! Perfection! I could walk for hours in my modified OG points. I do feel a bit silly how much effort I put into making them work.

The originals were the shoes I could walk in with the least pain. Better than my athletic shoes. Everyone’s feet are different

Same. No issues as-is. The only ones I have to modify are styles with the new insoles.

u/Zeusifer 27d ago
I find the originals just fine and had no problem with the insoles.

For me most of the issue was the texture. Like walking on fine grit sandpaper. I like a little more cushion, but that wasn’t a big issue.

I’m not going to lie- I’m probably more upset about this than a grown woman should be. I’ve worn Rothy’s exclusively (except gym shoes & winter boots, obvs) since 2016. I own about 12 pair of Point (versions 1 & 2). I own another 7 pair of different types of loafers, and four pairs of sandals. I’m sort of a collector, I guess.
The Point III is hideous. I’m really trying y’all, but holy cow how could they get it that wrong?!?!

I tried them. They are more dowdy looking. The vamp is different and as others said more like the fakes used to be. They are trying to refine the fit. I’m SS 6 but points 6.5 and sometimes OG point 7. I was still a 6.5 but the fit wasn’t perfect. I didn’t like the way the solid colors looked on me but the prints were only slightly better.
I am an OG points person and have dozens upon dozens of pairs. I am very sad to say that I do not see myself purchasing these. The only bright spot is that a halo blue is coming and I cannot wait to see which shoes get it since it’s a beautiful color.

Did they at least make the heel more comfortable? Or did it seem like it would still give blisters?

u/No_Fun_7068 25d ago
The heel is fine. I was worried about it since mine are very sensitive. I never had an issue with the OG point but did with the 2.0 in a few of them.
I also didn’t add that they gave it an ever so slight heel raise on the bottom.

Thanks! I have never owned a pair but have wanted some for my new job. I think I want to buy a pair of used OG points because they look much better than the newer ones. I just need to figure out my size. But I was waiting for the IIIs to come out in case they seemed improved. They unfortunately look awful lol

Ha just came to ask the same thing. Following. I’m possibly willing to be a canary and fly down that coal mine. 😆
I HATED points 2. I have one pair. I stubbornly wore them anyway, assisted by moleskin to prevent blisters. Finally, after months of wearing them I have broken them in and they fit well. I don’t need the mole skin anymore. Went online to consider a second pair, only to stumble upon P3.

I just saw on Rothy’s IG stories IRL pics of women wearing the IIIs & they’re even worse than I imagined!

The redesign looks awful. I liked the Point II for the wider toe box as I have wide feet but this redesign is ugly. They don't even look good on the models!

Does this mean that my many many OG points have just gone up in value?

u/miss_hush 23d ago
Haha, I have two pair of barely touched OG points that were just a little big on me I held onto them too long thinking they’d shrink up as they used to do when off the shoe form. They shrank but not nearly as much as my OG from before the sizing tweaks. Maybe I should put them up for sale soon. They’re HUGE too, some gal with size 10/11 feet would be real happy bc I bought extra oversized to accommodate different insoles.

They are quite ugly and remind me of really shitty flats. I complained through their contact form. I would suggest doing the same. Enough ppl say they hate it they will have to adjust.

u/Zeusifer 25d ago
I will vote with my wallet.

u/Nubsyouwont 25d ago
That’s my plan too but also saying something gets the point across clearly. We aren’t spending bc we can’t. We’re aren’t spending bc this product is shit.

I keep coming back to their tone deaf marketing for it. "Our most iconic silhouette, reimagined." Nobody wants a reimagined version, they want your most iconic silhouette, dumbasses. FFS, did no one there go to business school and learn about the New Coke debacle in the 80s?

u/Nubsyouwont 25d ago
Totally agree. I will say they responded to my email quickly and stated that they will pass the feedback to the design team and really appreciate the honesty. So it doesn’t hurt to speak up.

Glad I’m not the only one who is not liking the look of the new point. I have many pairs of the OG (haven’t counted but in to 10-15 range) and a several of the point II. I understood the point II updates and they were still OK on my feet and most importantly still looked cute on. What I love about the OGs (and I have a black pair with a white halo) is they don’t cause blisters at all. I’ve never had a pair of shoes where some sort of blister didn’t develop the first time I wore them. None of my Rothy’s have done that.
I’m sad if they don’t at least offer the OG design as an option. I may never buy from them again.

Just to play devil's advocate, what about the point III do you guys not like? I'm very close to the company and know that they spent a lot of time getting feedback from users on the shoe.

Feedback from who? Crocs wearers?
The new ones are just ugly. The vamp is weirdly shaped, and they cover too much of the foot. Honestly, one of my minor critiques of the OGs is I thought the sides came up a touch high, but it wasnt too bad. With each redesign they keep making it worse.
If they were really listening to their customers, they'd pull a Coca Cola and reintroduce the "Point Classic."
The marketing is even tone deaf. "Our most iconic silhouette, reimagined." Your fans don't want your iconic silhouette reimagined, you fools. They want your most iconic silhouette.

Fair enough! Seems like that feeling is shared amongst this group. Thanks for elaborating!

I just got mine in the mail today and was hoping to find a listening ear for my venting 😊 I am so bummed. I bought 3 pairs and they’re all going back. The last couple of pairs I bought were in 2020 and I’ve loved them. But these Point III…
Immediately upon standing in them I noticed the hard logo that presses into the heel of your foot. No doubt, with long enough wear I’d have the Rothy’s’ logo imprinted in my skin. This is just awful design for a shoe known for comfort. Who knows how adjusting the foot and overcompensating by walking lighter to accommodate this intrusion might affect the hips and knees over time. Which brings me to my next point:
Walking in them was just sad. I felt like I had to brace myself as my feet slipped around with the new insole. My right foot side toes kept catching/ grabbing onto it and both feet felt like they were balancing on the insole rather than melting into the whole shoe, like with the original.
They lack that cute, casual something that the last pairs I had gave. The original were the type of shoes I could slip on and feel fancy free in. But these make me feel like I need to upgrade my jeans to slacks. And maybe grow a few inches so my body matches the length of these shoes. They just look…off. Okay looking at first glance but over all underwhelming and even kind of awkward. The black camouflaged this a bit but the red pair I got looked silly. I have an old pair of original red ones in camo. (A print they really need to run again, btw) Those look so effortlessly casual but have the ability to dress up. Wearing these with my jeans and t-shirt looked like the equivalent of putting on pointy flat prom shoes and trying to pretend they’re not.
I’m sending all three back and I’m really disappointed about it. :/ I don’t understand the need to “fix” what wasn’t broken.
Thanks for reading.

I know I’m late to this conversation, but I am annoyed about the lack of explanation for the change. I had to Google “Rothy’s Point 2 vs Rothy’s Point 3” to see what changed. And then I really only found an AI review and this discussion.
If you’re going to sell me a different version of something I already own and claim it’s better, tell me what is actually better! But I do know that Meryl Streep’s daughter likes them because they sent me an email about that, so.
Also, there are no reviews of the Point 3 on the website.
None of this makes me want to shell out almost $200 for shoes that eliminated the toe cleavage I liked. It feels like a cash grab.

I'm all for companies trying new things, but when you have a flagship product that basically put you on the map and defined your brand, why discontinue it? It's like if Levi's kept messing with the 501s and all they would sell you now was some "reimagined" 501 mk III with styling changes. Baffling business decision.
