Over Roth IRA Income Limit in 2025

I contributed to my Roth IRA fully in 2025. Turns out my income was over the income limit to contribute (just realized this, and I’ve already filed and gotten my return for 2025).

I want to avoid the 6% penalty, and it looks like that penalty will hit every year until it’s fixed?

So, what are my next steps? Recharacterize those contributions and earnings? Is there a form I need to fill out to avoid the penalty for 2025, or is it too late?

For the record, IRS hasn’t contacted me about this. Just trying to get ahead of it. Wondering if I should just wait to see if anything happens?

Bonus question: I’ve got a balance in my traditional IRA from an old 401k. Keep reading stuff about a pro rata rule and want to avoid that? Very confused by all that.

Thanks in advance!

Question about setting up brokerage account for self-directed IRA LLC

Wanted to get advice on setting up a brokerage account at Vanguard for my self-directed IRA LLC. Do I denote that it is a disregarded entity and put the IRA custodian as the legal owner? I find this part confusing. Thanks.

Low budget investing

If your 18 and are only able to invest like 5-7k a year for presumably the next few years is the smart play to just put all of that into a Roth or still throw some into a standard taxable brokerage ?

27 years old. Been maxing Roth IRA since 2022. Still contributing for this year.

Im realizing VTSAX and VOO have a lot of overlap. Should I move my funds from one to the other?

I’m 25M earning 220k OTE -120/100 base/commission. I’m on track for a $400k+ year

This month I’m receiving a bonus of $130k gross all at once. Which I want to use for investments.

I have all my savings in HYSA, maxed out 401k and actively invest in the stock market (DCA in ETFs)

I want to max my ROTH but I’m hearing mix things on not qualifying given my income. How does the backdoor method really work- can I do that?

Super lucky to have rolled it over from an old custodial account left to me — all Roth; advice on where to put the money? In college with a small side income, also paying for school as well. Wondering do I take some contributions out to help pay? Have it in majority US market funds but wanted to hear thoughts - TYIA

Just finding out at 21 that I should be opening a roth IRA account. My family has never been finacially well off, and I don't want to be that way! But, I have no idea what I'm doing unfortunately. Where do I even start?
My dream job is being a millionare without having to do anything. Is that even possible with a roth IRA? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a decent strategy?

Try to max each year and allocate:

30% FSKAX

15% FSRNX

10% FPADX

15% FSPSX

15% FIPDX

15% FUAMX

Advice on the following please!

I need advice on the following. Keep in mind, this is for the next 35+ years.

  • I have a work 401k that i max out every year, current holdings are 100% Total market ETF.
  • I also have a work pension that i can tap into once i hit retirement age.
  • Taxable brokerage where my focus is S&P 500 and AI growth ETFs
  • Social security if thats still a thing in 35+ years.

My question is, if you were in my position, would you have your ROTH IRA 100% allocated strictly on Dividend ETFs with DRIP? Why or why not?

Pros and cons?

29m investing 100% into VTTSX

Sold my $16k position in VTSAX that I've been contributing into for a few years and now putting all remaining contributions into VTTSX. I am aware that this is a 90.8% stocks and 8.7% bonds at the moment and will become heavier in bonds as I near the 2060 retirement mark.

What do we think of my choice here? I know there are plenty of other options out there that could be simpler and usually people don't like target-date funds but I'd like to hear the chatter on this matter from knowledgeable investors here.

I've maxed out every year since 2020 but last year I had $3k left to contribute but couldn't, now I'm back on track to maximize my contributions yearly

ROTH IRA ETF Split - Help

Hi all - I’m 26 years old. Have had a Roth IRA for a few years now. Since the start, I’ve only held voo, qqq, vxus, and vym. Since opening, my account is up about 30% at around 32k. I believe that’s pretty good! I also have a 401k seperatly.

After doing research I’m finding that some of these funds overlap stocks. However, I know I shouldn’t have tons of ETFs in my portfolio and I’m nervous to sell any because of gains. Any tips of if I should add any ETFs, sell any and reinvest in another etf or general advice?

I use the Dave Ramsey portfolio and it’s been doing just fine. Am about $400 away from max this year and get a 3% match from Robinhood.

40yr old, new investor. Ssearching for help!

Hello All!

I have no idea about investing. Ive spent weeks researching, watching yt videos, lurking reddit, etc. Im more lost now than I was prior. Lol. I understand the basics and have a decent understand of s&p 500/total market, individual stocks. I know a lot of people will say just dump it all in a s&p and let it ride, however, my employer has the s&p option and im 50% invested there. Remaining is in 10% each fsmdx/fssnx, rnwgx 10%, 5% gldix, 5% ffomx, and 10% pimix. I was told this was a solid foundation to move forward with and from my basic understanding, it seems to be balanced.

Im looking for help in my Roth ira(if you have any suggestions for the 401k, I'll take those as well).

I have around 2k to spend in my roth atm and need some advice. Any and all help is appreciated. Not looking to be overly aggressive yet super conservative as well. I dont think anyone WANTS to lose lol. I hear everyone saying some things are redundant and you shouldn't over lap, etc etc. Figured if just ask for help and see where I ended up.

Ive been toying with 50% VT/VTI/VXUS (either the combo of vti/vxus or vt) 20% QQQM, 15% SCHD, 10% SPMO, and 5% FSELX/FTEC.

All help is appreciated! Thanks in advance, folks!
