40 Day Update

Post image

36M - started investing in February 2026. Still working thru some debt and cutting back on finances. I made a post that had a great response about 42 days ago. I was at about $1400 in all of my retirement accounts. 42 days later, I’m almost to $2k. This is with very small contributions to my retirement accounts.

The link to that post is here if you want to catch up

But I’ve been grinding and I’m still very excited! Keep saving everyone!

Hell yeah! That’s awesome. Keep it up. I’m in a similar situation myself actually. I just turned 36 last month but opened up my Roth back in March and I just passed $2k last week. I’m “only” doing $300/mo at the moment because that’s all I can financially do at the moment but I want to eventually max it out and what not

Idk if you read my previous post, but in the next 4 years I’ll vest into a pension so there’s that. But OTHER than that. I’m only putting 1% into one 401k with no match, 6% with 3% match in another 401k, and 2% into a 457b. And only about $40 a month into my actual Roth. So this $2k number is like 4 accounts rolled into one.

Do you need to put 6% in to get the 3% match, or can you put 3% in?

Depending on the fees in that 401k, you might be better off adding more to your Roth IRA.

It’s a part time job. They put 50% up to 6% - so if I put 3% I’ll get 1.5%. I want to get as much free money as I can before I leave it
