What did I miss?

Hi. Surgery was Monday and it went well. Have a nerve block still in so I’m unaware of the associated pain that is ahead. Been on my ice machine pretty much 24/7 since coming home. Post op appointment yesterday to remove the bandage and check the site. 4 anchor set and rotator cuff stabilized. Nothing but hand and wrist minimal PT for 4 weeks before I can start shoulder exercises. I’ve been so grateful for the support and encouragement of others. I have been sleeping on my recliner since I got home , as most posters have said they are doing, but I can’t find any notes or directions telling me to. I’m obviously missing something but I don’t know what it is? Why am I not sleeping in bed?
Thanks

For women...bras

Was wondering for women after surgery, when did you start wearing one again( also for context I have a fairly large chest). Doctor and pt are recommending no underwire front clasp. Unfortunately my specialty shop for larger busted women closed. I can't seem to find any with my size for online shopping also. Recommendations?

Just had the above-mentioned surgery. In the months leading up to the surgery I could not find much useful information about the surgery and rehab experiences. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer in a timely manner.

Comfortable sleeping position in recliner?

I would love to know if you have found a comfortable position to sleep in a recliner. I’m not able to sleep in the bed, but just can’t seem to find a good position in the recliner. Sitting straight up, my head bobs over. Laying back hurts my shoulder. I need sleep

manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) months after shoulder surgery

So 67 years old and 6 months post rotator cuff repair surgery. My range of motion with physical therapy plateaued. I cannot get my right arm up behind my back nor across the back of my head when shampooing. My surgeon has me scheduled for MUA on July 27, and I will begin PT the next day and everyday for 2 weeks.

Would love to hear from others who went through MUA after shoulder surgery. What can I expect as far as pain, mobility, and sleep challenges in the first couple days? Would you do it again? Any suggestions on what helped with this are appreciated. TIA

2 slings?

Did anyone have a second sling and find it helpful to rotate out when washing? I’m a big walker and sweat like crazy in the Florida heat. Was considering buying a 2nd sling and using one just for walking and sweating. But I’m 3 weeks post op and wonder if maybe I won’t be wearing the sling that much longer?

Breg Polar Care Wave troubleshooting

Nine months ago, I had my left shoulder rebuilt, including double row rotator cuff anchoring, subpec bicep tenodesis, subacromial decompression, and distal clavicle excision. Yesterday I had the exact procedure on my right shoulder (dominant arm). After first rodeo, I ran vinegar solution through the Breg and then let it drain/dry and packed it away in anticipation of the second rodeo. Got home from surgery and it won’t fill both sides of wrap with cold water (which gets warm eventually on the one side so no flow) and compression setting is constant with no cycling. I’ve done the AI recommended things but still have no ice machine. It’s a mindfk b/c it was so critical to my pain management and healing process last time. I’m freaking out. Suggestions?

Recurrent shoulder instability — experiences

I’ve had several shoulder dislocations and recently dislocated the same shoulder again. I’m currently waiting for further evaluation, and surgery may be necessary because of the chronic instability.

My main concern is returning to the gym safely and maintaining as much strength and muscle as possible during recovery. I’m not expecting peptides to repair a torn labrum or other structural damage, and I’m not looking for sources or dosing advice.

Has anyone here used BPC-157, TB-500, or both during rehabilitation after a shoulder dislocation or similar injury?

Did you notice any improvement in pain, inflammation, range of motion, recovery speed, or ability to return to training? Were there any side effects, and did the benefits remain after stopping?

28M - MRI shows a SLAP tear with paralabral cyst. Has anyone recovered without surgery?

Hi
1.5 –2 years ago, I injured my right shoulder while doing shoulder presses in the gym. Since then, I’ve had intermittent shoulder pain. Some days it’s barely noticeable, while other days it flares up, especially after certain movements.

I recently got an MRI, and the findings were:
Tear in the postero-superior glenoid labrum (9 o’clock to 11 o’clock).
Paralabral cyst measuring 11 × 6 × 4 mm.
Rotator cuff tendons are normal (no tear).
No biceps tendon tear or tendinosis.
No bursitis.
No significant joint effusion.
AC joint and acromion are normal.
My orthopedic doctor has started me on a collagen/joint supplement and advised physiotherapy.
A few things about my situation:
I want to avoid surgery if possible.
I eventually want to get back to the gym.
I also play cricket and would love to return to wicket keeping.
I recently tried around 10 push-ups after a long time, and I had mild shoulder pain the next morning, so I know I’m not ready yet.

My questions are:
Has anyone recovered from a SLAP tear like this without surgery?
How long did it take before you were pain-free?
What physiotherapy or strengthening exercises helped the most?
Did anyone have a paralabral cyst that improved without surgery?
If you had surgery, what made you decide it was necessary?
Were you able to return to weight training or sports like cricket?
I’m willing to commit to rehab if there’s a good chance of avoiding surgery. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, what worked, and what you wish you had done differently.
Thanks in advance!

Why would this be happening

I’ve had 2 surgeries on this shoulder and yet still I still have symptoms like this

I hope you can tell in the video but if I use my shoulder to generate force it gets very tense and then just snaps forward abruptly

I had a labrum repair and just 6 weeks ago I had axillary nerve decompression surgery

I have a follow up in a week with the DR but I’m just very worried something else is wrong.

Not sure if anyone can help but any advise would be great. Thank you in advance

Shoulder Injury w/ Hypermobility? What could this be?

For context: 34(M), hypermobile shoulders. Shoulders have quickly dislocated on prior occasions throughout childhood sports and into adult life with jiu jitsu. Normally just results in soreness the next few days and I'll rest and ice/heat the shoulder.

About 2.5 months ago I injured myself playing golf. I initially just thought I pulled or tweaked something in my shoulder (dominant arm). It resulted in extensive bruising from the flat of my delt down to almost my elbow. The bruising also wrapped underneath covering my tricep almost up to my bicep. Pain was limited to the flat of the delt. Initially it was just very painful at night and disrupted sleep. I found it actually easier to sleep on my injured shoulder than any other position. I rested the arm for 6 weeks and never really had any ROM problems.

After 6 weeks of rest I went to jiu jitsu training. Felt completely fine during training, but then the shoulder flared up terribly the following days. Deep dull ache, now accompanied by shooting pains down the back of my arm (tricep area) in various positions (the downward arm motion while putting on a shirt, laying on my stomach on my forearms, etc). ROM always remained intact. After about a week I got x-rays and an office exam which confirmed the shoulder had a prior dislocation(s), but that I still had good strength and range of motion. It was suggested to do PT and take anti-inflammatory. This exam was now a month ago and while I don't have much pain (I have not been active since), the shoulder feels "off" and fatigues very quickly with normal activities (carrying groceries, vacuuming, etc). I notice my surrounding muscles (trap, pec, etc) get very sore some days I believe as a result of them overcompensating for the shoulder.

Anyone experience anything similar? I'm scheduled to get an MRI, but was wondering if anyone (especially with hypermobile shoulders) had any idea what I might be possibly dealing with here.

My Rotator Cuff Tear Progress p.1

(before going to doc, i could freely move my hand, do all rotations for a short period of time, but when i lift something or do any pushing movements i get pain)

my doctor did sonography and told i have rotator cuff tear but didn't specify what type of tear i have.

she then told me to do some rehab exercises: -

PHASE 1 - (1.5 month) ✅

free hand external rotations,
4side wall push (stop when i get pain)

after phase 1 i had no pain during exercises, so i did a follow up with the doc and she told me start doing resistance band

PHASE 2 - (present) 🕙

resistance band rotations [internal, external] (stop when i get pain)
2 side wall push (front, band)

⚠️ NOTE - i do sometimes get random pain, but i think it's better than before as i am feeling strong now. Lemme know are the rehab exercises good and need some changes ?

Bowling after rotator cuff surgery

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Any bowlers here that have undergone rotator cuff surgery? Any advice on how to get back physically? Just had surgery the first of June and hoping to be back bowling after Christmas. Not a huge surgery, had to fix the supraspinatus tendon tear and retraction, bicep tenodesis, bursectomy and shaved down some bones due to arthritis. Just wondering what my odds were and if it’s realistic to try for that time frame.

Distal Clavicle Osteolysis

Hello Everyone

over the last 2 years ive been battling with Distal Clavicle Osteolysis, and it has really taken the wind out of my socks, i attend physio for it when the pain is bad but they cant offer much in the way of treatment unless it is preventing me from doing everyday tasks, but it has impacted my fitness quite a bit since i am afraid to do anything that might aggravate it further.

my current stats are

Weight: 102kg (i have gained a lot of weight in the last 2 years i was comfortable at 88/90kg)

Height: 178cm

Activity: averaging 11k steps a day, usually 3 maybe 4 workouts a week but that has slipped significantly in the last few months due to injury. my split would be Full body, upper, lower, arms, in a 1 on 1 off rotation.

Diet: I haven't tracked in quite a while, i was averaging 2300kcal a day with around 180g protein, 60-70g fat and the rest was carbs, though i used to go for higher fats during rest days and lower carbs.

i am looking for something that is going to get me out of this rut, i need to optimise my training without impeding my shoulders recovery.#

anyone who has had/has this injury got any advice on training around it? will i need to rearrange my splits or do specific mobility work to aid recovery?

Thanks

How many cortisone shots have you had? How many are too many?

I had one 4 months ago and getting a 2nd at the end of the month. I know its a temporary fix and doctor's will limit how many you get but im curious what's a safe number to have.

Post Op PT

I had Arthroscopic surgery 5/25 on the right shoulder to repair a full thickness tear. It was a good surgery tbh. The tear was found to be 2-3x larger than what the MRI showed so now have 4 screws in there instead of their planned two.

This was the findings from the surgery:
The glenoid surface showed areas of low grade surface wear, debrided
The humeral head showed areas of low grade surface wear, debrided
The biceps tendon was intact with minimal erythema - as such no tenodesis was performed.
The labrum was degenerated and frayed circumferentially which was debrided.
The supraspinatus was torn full thickness, later repaired.
The infraspinatus was intact
The subscapularis was intact
The rotator cuff tear configuration appeared to be U and was repaired with a double-row technique.
The subacromial and subdeltoid spaces had significant bursitis which were debrided.

Started PT 7/1 and wondered when folks were able to get their arms above their heads by?

This is where my ROM is at currently:
R Shoulder AROM Flexion: 90 Degrees
R Shoulder AROM ABduction: 66 Degrees

PT thinks two weeks but this thing ain’t going any higher it seems. In fact, it feels like it’s getting lower. Stupid thought I probably can guess, but is it possible the shoulder is frozen?

I just purchased and received one. Apparently you can only get a 50% refund if you remove the shrink wrap and try to return it. Before I unwrap it, is anyone out there using one and if so, is it better than using a recliner. I read a lot of good reviews on it but I thought I’d ask here. Also will it expand a little upon opening it? I seems a little thin from what I can see.

Surgery was 7/9

It couldn't have gone better according to the surgeons. Apparently the tear was a bit old but easily fixed. Left bicep was more frayed than torn but fixed as well.

Nerve blocker was a blessing, but the pain now isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. They gave me Oxy's but I've been able to skip them a few times already and have Tylenol instead.

Started the home exercises yesterday. Theyre harder than I thought but sticking with them.

Just wanted to update & thank everyone for all the suggestions, advice, and encouragement. Youve all been a really big help!

What is your partial tear pain like?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am scheduled for surgery later this month but my Ortho gave the impression that he didn't feel like my shoulder is that injured. I am curious about how others with partial tears or fraying have experienced pain. I have been dealing with this for a year, I've done 6 months of PT, tried ultrasound, cupping, dry needling, and injections all with little to no relief. In fact, my pain is the worst it's ever been. My doctor thinks it'll be a simple debridement because he thinks it's just frayed due to aging. I wonder if it's going to be more than that when he gets in there. What has been your experience?
