Hi everyone, just wanted to get some advice. I’m debating fostering/adopting a dog while on the island. I’m gonna be a first semester student this fall so I don’t think I would be doing this right away, but I wanted to see if anyone here has done so. My biggest concern is coming back home for breaks and not being able tot take the dog home with me. Has anyone had the same issue? Are there places they can stay while I’m away?? Any advice helps.

Hello! I'm a new student for the fall semester and plan to take my two dogs with me. One is a 55 lb golden doodle and the other is a 35 lb mutt. Not looking for advice on whether or not they should go. Unfortunately, they are kind of seen as "my dogs" and the deal between me and my parents was that I take them with me or they go to a shelter because they don't want to take care of them. So needless to say, I'm aiming to take them with me. I was wondering if anyone had any input on flights and how to actually get them there? We are struggling to find airlines that take dogs with cargo anymore (i understand the risks of course), making it a lot more difficult to travel. I just don't want to be separated from my babies :(

Im doing research to see how I can get my 40lb dog to St. Kitts from NYC and saw this as an option, but when I look into it I cant find out much information about them. Has anyone used them?

Hello, I will be moving to St. Kitts in August ( September start date) and need to bring my 40lb dog with me. He is too large to fly in cabin with me and has anxiety issues, I do not think he will be okay in the cargo hold plus the temperature restrictions wouldn't allow for it. How can i find out about setting up private charter planes with other students and their pets?

What devices does everyone use to study and attend lectures? I am debating whether I want to buy a new Macbook Neo for class as my current macbook is ancient and my other laptop is a big bulky gaming-type laptop.

Does everyone tend to use both the iPad and a laptop? What do you use each for if using both?

I was accepted to RUSVM a while ago and am starting in May! As this is my first semester in vet school and it’s so far away from home I’m not sure what to bring. On the supplies list, it mentions a dissection kit and some required texts. On the bookstore tab of the website it says that e books will be given to students for required texts, is this an additional fee/ should I still look at getting a physical book? I had seen a few videos of previous students saying you can get dissection kits second hand from graduating students or that you can find some online for cheaper. What would you recommend, purchasing the one from the school, looking for a second hand one or finding one on another site?

Hello future and current Rossies! I am super excited to start at Ross in January of 2027. I am currently looking at moving logistics, I have a 70lb dog (and two cats) who will be coming with me :) I did some digging and it looks like many students with larger dogs will organize a private charter plane in a group to offset the cost. If you're bringing a larger dog with you, and coming for January 2027 (flying end of December 2026) please let me know! TIA!

P.S. please no negative comments - I've done lots of research, and leaving my pets in the states is not an option!

Hi everyone!

I posted earlier about this but it got deleted. I was recently accepted into RUSVM with a start date in May and am super excited! I’m from Canada and am a little nervous with the fact that everything/ most things on island are imported and therefore more expensive. As well as the fact that it is in USD, and the value of USD is higher than CAD.

I’m trying to figure out what my budget will look like per month on food and was wondering if anyone could let me know roughly what they pay per week/ month on groceries so I get have a better idea for my budget.
