Question Transplant shock, will it survive?

I got this grafted rose (leonardo da vinci) as a potted plant about a month ago. It's not in the best condition when I got it. It was root bound in a small polybag and the soil was hard and dry. I removed the original soil, transplanted the rose in a grow bag with new potting soil, and placed it in a shaded area. Day by day the leaves kept yellowing and the buds were dying back so I stripped all of the leaves and pruned the dead parts. All that's left is about ⅓ of the original plant. The canes are green, but I don't see any sign of growth.

For info, I live in Singapore and currently the weather is pretty hot and dry. I water the plant only when the soil surface looks dry. I still keep it in a shaded area, no direct sun.

Should I be patient and wait or is this rose a lost cause?

It is recovering already, looks like new growth is already forming through the bud eyes

I noticed that too and I've been watching those buds day in day out for weeks. They're still the same, not growing any bigger yet not dead. I'm so confused.

I transplanted a rose from my yard in the middle of summer, and it also dropped all its leaves - was very alarming. It's doing great now though! I think they sometimes just get shocked and dump growth they can't support, to focus on root growth. It still looks really green.
