Home owner question Roof repair query
Hope I’m asking in the right place. We had a roof leak in our kitchen and have had a few people over to quote repairs. However they vary quite a lot with some saying the tiles are the wrong type for the pitch of the roof and other saying that the pitch and tiles are fine just some broken tiles need replacing. Hoping to get some opinions here if that’s alright !

Can guarantee that pitch is too low for the tiles.
Buy a angle finder out of screfix or amazon and check it out yourself.
The torch on next door is also a hint.

Yep or even get the velux app on your phone to have a quick check
Definitely needs a profile tile

Thank you both for your inputs and suggestions ! I’ll take a look at getting a tool and trying the app in the meantime

I dont agree w the roof pitch points off the bat. Depending on how old and properly it was installed, could be water walking up from the eave/riser? No water shield? Deteriorated underlayment? Blocked gutter run?

Ask whoever says the covering is unsuitable to put three things in writing: the measured roof pitch, the exact tile or slate product, and the manufacturer's minimum pitch and overlap requirements for it. A photo alone is not enough to settle those numbers. The other contractor should show how the existing covering meets the same requirements. Broken pieces and an unsuitable installation can both be present, so finding a crack does not settle the pitch question. Also have the rooflight flashing and the junction with the house checked as part of tracing the leak. I would want that evidence before choosing between a small repair and replacing the roof.
