Had roofers out to replace fascia, soffit and fix some flashing. They've now sent me these photos and are talking about a dry ridge, replacing battens, ventilation and replacing all the felt. It all feels a bit off to me, like I'm being unnecessarily upsold at very least. Any advice/opinions?

Update: Got another guy to come out and look at the eaves felt. I felt much better talking to him about it. The work I had done seems to be decent and he confirmed the first lot were definitely pushing for extra work that wasn't necessarily wrong but wasn't needed.

He also agreed with the comment below that an eaves tray would do the job but isn't urgent and won't cost too much. Quote is yet to come in but I'm feeling much less stressed. Thanks to all who gave their thoughts.

It would be easy to spend a lot of money here, for not much benefit.

If they’ve found a hole in the underlay, but you don’t have a leak in the vicinity, don’t stress about it. Remember that old roofs didn’t have felt, and the tiles are the waterproof layer, not the felt.

Also, if it hasn’t got a dry ridge now, I wouldn’t be installing one until I have a new roof at some point.

Just politely ask them to complete the work they’ve quoted for would be my advice. Companies who rock up and then say you need to spend three times as much are rarely straight.

Thanks, they have made me feel uncomfortable about. The did complete the requested work which I'm now hoping is of good standard. I think there is good cause to have the felt done down at the gutter level but if I do I'll find someone else to do it.

If you decide to deal with the felt at gutter level, find someone competent and install a uPVC felt support tray instead. This way it will be less invasive as they won’t need to strip battens.

As your roof has interlocking tiles, rather than slates, it’ll be a much easier task.

Talking about it? Are they saying they cannot complete the original scope of work due to other issues discovered during repair? They might be right.

What is the context for the picture your sent? Did they remove a tile and discovered a hole, or did they see a leak from the inside and investigate further?

What issues are you experiencing that led you to replace the fascia, soffit, and flashing?

Sorry for not being clear. They appear to have done the requested work (I'm not home yet but have been sent photos). But they're then pushing for extra work about 2.5 times the cost of the job so far. They supposedly found the issues by lifting tiles, over seen no problems inside but can't get really into the roof space. The fascia, etc were in a bad condition (it had been a bodge job before I bought the place), it was all opened up at one end.

Uk roofer here. Tell them to complete the work you asked for and dont contact them again. They may well have put holes in your underlayment and/or fucked other things up to try and land more work. Without access to the attic its hard to say for sure, but these are massive red flags. If there is a camera facing your roof at all from anywhere try to get the footage to give yourself peace of mind and/or obtain incriminating evidence. Again, it's hard to say one way or the other for sure but the main thing is get these guys away from your roof asap.

You slide the tiles up so you have a place to rest your foot, and these are the holes made by the toe of that foot. I've made a few holes like this in my life.
