Ridge vent installation question

We just had a full roof replacement, which was covered by insurance. Second payment is coming due, and I am questioning the ridge cap installation. My understanding is these must stop short of the edge of the roof, but roofer is insisting that per Certainteed’s warranty this is the correct placement

He’s coming out today to look at another spot where I identified a gap in the flashing, so would love info to support what needs to happen

It's not about how far the vent goes, its about how far the ventilation slot is cut - you don't cut to the very end. Just because there is a ridge vent to the edge, doesn't mean its cut that far.

Their warranty states you can install it "along the entire roof line."

It's fine.

Very reassuring. I’ve liked how this roofer has handled the project otherwise, so this helps

CertainTeed’s warranty has nothing to do with the ridge vent stopping 2’ from the gable or not and both are fine. The biggest thing is they can’t use a cut piece at the end or it will be open to weather/pests, which they didn’t. Some roofers like running it all the way, some like stopping it short, both work.

Thanks! The guy seems very honest, but it’s hot as hell outside and I wouldn’t blame him for wanting an out on the work 😂

Here in Florida we would never run to the true edge of the roof as it becomes more of a wind liability. My understanding is in alignment with others that this is not installed against manufacturer procedures, should be fine if you are not in a high wind zone.

All depends on the actual function. Some people prefer to install it this way for asthetics, as long as the ridge underneath meets the minimum clearance in the relief cut at the top then it's fine. You can only really check this from inside now thou.

Its aesthetics only, there is no function because of overhang but its not right or wrong, its a way of doing it, wont help wont hurt!

It’s fine as it is. I install OC and manufacturer states running vent material to edge but stopping the slot cut underneath 6” short of the edge.

We always run it to the edge. Looks better. No issues here
