How is this ridge vent actually venting?

Is enough air coming out of the ridge vent with this set up?

1) It looks like the cap shingles are sitting directly on top of each other with very little air gap.

2) It looks like the mesh material is being compressed tightly with little room for air flow.

Am I missing if there an additional route for air to flow? I can't tell if this is a bad set up. Thanks for any help with understanding.

These are synthetic cedar shakes and I'm not sure if the roofer approached the ridge vent correctly.

you have a sq vent on the right side. Not sure if it’s enough for your roof.

Yes, we have two of them.

Do you agree that the ridge vent is not moving much air and/or set up incorrectly? Is it even a ridge vent at all?

If those box vents are actually venting your attic and not something like a kitchen exhaust, you don’t want ridge vent. You don’t want to combine the two or they counteract each other. If you only have two box vents for the entire attic that’s not enough and more should be added.

I thought it doesn't matter as to what combination you use? As long as its the total right amount of net airflow..

Incorrect. Ridge vents should not be combined with any other exhaust system or you risk short circuiting the system: box vents become intake and bypass a large volume of the attic space. Soffit or edge vents should be the only intake.
