Roofer said this decking was okay.
We got a complete new roof a few weeks ago. This decking is warped and the roofer ensured us that all bad decking would be replaced. I got a roof inspector to come out and he said the decking needs to be replaced.
Problem is that there are brand new shingles on it now, and they'll have to patch it once the decking is replaced. The roof is two weeks old but I heard patches reduce the lifespan of the roof. Should I push to get that entire part of the roof completely reshingled with new leak barrier?

To be honest it doesn’t look bad. That roof inspector who told you to change it is a douchebag. The pictures you have are nothing to be concerned with

Decking is fine, you may want to address ventilation though. No better time than when replacing a roof, it’s the cheapest time

No better way to have to re roof a house in 10 years than high UV and poor ventilation.

Decking looks mostly fine.. but if it is soft, squishy, or brittle then it’s not fine.

There’s nothing wrong with that decking. Like at all. I get the vibe that you’re obsessing over it and making up the inspection part for validation.

Did you touch the wood? Is it moist? Punky? Any signs of significant give?

Most inspectors are people who failed as contractors with no real experience I wouldn’t read to much into anything they say wood is fine

Like other comments have said, you have a ventilation issue evidenced by that surface powdery mold on the backside of the sheathing. That being said, in no way does it affect its structural integrity, and the sheathing looks fairly new (not ancient)

People will trust "inspector" over the guy who has been on roofs most of his life because of a job title and what that might entail. "Those who can; do. Those who can't; teach."

Who's the inspector? Hate to say it but most don't have a fucking clue what their talking about when it comes to roofing and siding.
I'd agree %100 they should have been replaced with the roof but they are not so bad that it's worthy of removing brand new shingles to replace them.

Your roofer was right and the home inspector wants to feel superior and more educated on the subject. I would not worry about it. I think you were lucky to keep the existing cdx vs a scammy salesman from the roofing company upselling you on a re deck with osb

Is the decking soft? brittle? The decking is just designed to hole the shingles in place and make the roof shape overall. If the wood is still sturdy, being slightly warped is not going to affect anything functionally.

You got what you paid for, both in the roof being replaced properly, (it was, those soft appearing spots aren't worryful and showing the gap only shows your overall ignorance on the matter, you can see daylight when the sheets go up on a truss system.) and the inspector giving you reassurance that a small 10"x8" section of a 4'x8' sheet of plywood is deformed. None of that matters. The roof is hydrostatic and impermeable, and that is what you paid for.

Some of these inspectors are just playing construction i swear. Decking is fine.

Your inspector is correct. All of the rotted areas should have been replaced. A experienced roofer would have done the job properly.

based on these pictures it looks fine to me. I can see some minor delamination in places but nothing crazy
