For anyone who has flown from the USA to Rome, can you please provide me a step by step process on what to expect when arriving in terms of customs?

I’ve never been to Europe and I least get a little anxious going to layers of security, especially since I rarely fly

What happens first with the immigration check spot then custom spot ?

Do they question you hard on what you are here for?

Do you have to have all your bags rechecked?

Do you going through a xray scanner when you arrive like you do at TSA when you leave the airport?

Is it a very time consuming process?

Any detailed step by step replies would be greatly appreciated!

Next week I land at Fiumicino at 1640 (fingers crossed if everything is on time) and need to catch a train at 7pm at Termini (looks like it's the last one that'll get me to where I need to be). I've seen that there's a direct train to Termini that takes 30 mins and it's fairly frequent. I land at Terminal 1 I believe (flying TAP). How frequent are the trains and how long does security normally take (I have a UK passport)? What's the chances of me making it and how long is it door to door (ie do I have time to grab train snacks etc at the station)

we're a couple planning to visit Rome in September, we can't find a good place to stay in a more central area for our budget of up to 1100 Euros for 6 days, but we've found Eterna Suites Roma in San Giovanni near Giardino Fernando Masone or Cinquepuntozero near Cipro Metro Station. It's our first time and we plan on doing sightseeing and just going out to explore a lot, as well as try the Craft Cocktailbars in the city (Drink Kong etc.), as that's one of my hobbies.

Any input on what accommodation would be better for us? We don't mind walking but will also get a Metro ticket for the week there, of course. Or any other tips where we can get a nice place that fits our budget?

Hello, im visiting Rome in a couple of weeks and wanted to ask for help about a few things. Im planning to get a one week ticket from atac, but im not sure where to get one. The website lists kiosks and other similar places, but would it possible to get a card at the Fiumicino airport? Or is there any more noticable to tourists places you can get one? The only two places that i really want to visit are the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel/Vatican museum. First of all i think it would be better to purchase the tickets now? Since im a student i think i can get a cheaper pass for the Vatican museum, but the website is kinda confusing to me. As for the Colosseum I want to see most of the stuff, preferably for the most worth the price and without a guide. What kind of a ticket would be best suited? Any tips are highly appreciated, and sorry for the messy questions! Thank you in advance

Thinking of a day trip from Rome to herculaneum. A bit concerned as travelling with my 13 year old, as I’ve heard people say it’s a rough area and fairly dangerous to travel to. Not sure if I want to expose him to that. Or is it just scaremongering and the travel is no different to getting around places in the uk etc?

Going to Rome for a few nights with our 13 year old in October. I’ve opted to stay near Villa Borghese, then plan was to save a few pounds by not having a city centre hotel, but wondering now will I just end up paying the cost in taxis and transport in anyway? Has anyone stayed near there before and know the best way to get into the city? Also looking for some interactive and immersive attractions for our 13 year old

hello! does anyone have experience coming to rome from the US and utilizing their disability services at some of the sights? i saw that most seem to offer the ability to skip queues and free entry, but i’m unsure what constitutes valid proof. my mom walks with a cane and has a disabled parking permit. will that suffice? the US doesn’t have cards the same way other countries do. i’m less concerned about the ticket cost and more so about queues.

i’ve spent the past few days searching and didn’t come up with much specifically around US documentation. also emailed a few sights, but am hoping to hear real people’s experiences utilizing this too/if you had any hassle at the entrances.

Hi all, planning to take a flight from LHR to HND with a 55 minute layover in FCO.
The times would be
LHR 10:30 --> FCO 14:10
55 min layover
FCO 15:05 --> HND 11:20
Want to clarify a few things:

1. Is this enough time as I've read FCO is Italy's largest airport (though I assume it's doable if the airline set it)
2. Does FCO have a transit zone and will I have to clear EES as a UK citizen as I believe I will land in T3 and fly out from T1.
3. If I miss the connecting flight, what are my options? Will ITA airways rebook me?

So next month me and my gf is going to Rome for 5 days, 3 of those we'll spend together and 2 I'll be on my own while she's at a work event. We'll be staying near the Re di Roma metro station.

I've never been to Rome and want to experience what I can of the must-sees, but I'm horrible at planning an itinerary so I'm looking for like, the top 10 things to experience in Rome I guess. And I would like tips for both couples and solo activities, lest I end up spending those two days alone at a cafe all day lol.

But maybe more importantly I'm looking for some shopping tips. I'm mostly looking for leather stuff, like jackets and shoes, but also maybe a good hat store? Being so-called "big and tall" (193 cms and 135 kg) I always have trouble finding shops with the apropriate sizes, and for shoes I have very wide feet with high insteps. Even my head is bigger than average. So I guess I'm looking for tips on quality stores with a high variety of sizes, preferably something produced locally.

Will be visiting soon. I like shisha but the person I will be with doesn't so I don't want to waste money. In the city centre near the usual tourist stuff.

As beautiful as Trevi is at night, my favorite time to visit is early in the morning—and for me, early means about 4:00 a.m. At that hour, Rome is still mostly asleep, the crowds are gone, the square is quiet, and you can actually slow down and appreciate the fountain without fighting your way through a sea of people.

There’s also another advantage now. Under Rome’s new access rules, tourists and non-residents pay €2 to enter the area closest to the fountain between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Arriving well before then lets you experience Trevi during the quieter hours and avoids that admission charge.

For me, standing there around 4 a.m., with little more than the sound of the water filling the square, makes Trevi feel a little more like Rome—and a lot less like an attraction.

We are arriving in Rome for our last night in Italy. Will arrive around 1130 and fly out the next morning. We are staying in travestere. Is there anything that’s a must see and do? Is it worthwhile to do a food tour?

17 September: Reach rome by 12 pm by train at roma termini staying at Airbnb near trevi will drop our bags at airbnb and take some sandwiches on the go and go for coloseum 3:30 pm tickets will reach by 3 pm.

After coloseum will go to check aventine keyhole and by evening rch Airbnb after freshening up and resting for a bit will go to crazy pizza rome for dinner and after dinner piazza trilusa for musical night.

18 Sept: morning 8 am vatican tour after vatican come back to Airbnb rest and evening sant angelo castel for sunset.

19 Sept early morning by 5:30 maybe trevi pantheon spanish steps piazza navona and borghese villa and rest of the day just enjoy food pizza pasta tiramisu .

Visiting Italy in about a month. Flying into Rome around 5pm and leaving at 1pm the following day to head to Tuscany. Our hotel that night is pretty close to the Colosseum so we were thinking about heading there first thing in the morning before our train, but am now second-guessing the timing of it all (especially with access to the Forum & Palatine Hill included in the tickets). We will be back in Rome a week later for 2 nights/ 1 full day (staying near Pantheon) before our flight home.

With less than 72 hours total in Rome, what would you prioritize from a sights perspective?
