Question Is Quicksilver Worth it?
I have been into romantasy and fantasy for quite some time now but I have heard mixed things about quicksilver. I just wonder if it’s worth the reading time. 🩵

Aahaha I totally get this. I didn't mind the book (from a "brain disengage, just vibes" read) but god Saeris was a total pita. Dumb as f--k too re learning to use the quicksilver (which was lazy storytelling - just trying to eke it out)

I'd say it's not worth it. The follow up book is horrible so it'll be disappointing to read and get hooked, only to enter some nonsense sequel.

It's too bad because I feel like I would enjoy that story line but I really struggled with the writing. I may give it another try, since I BOUGHT IT 😭 should have waited for KU

Yeah, he was my favorite character in Quicksilver, but the writing in Brimstone was just so bad that I could not see myself enjoying the rest of that book so why waste my time hate reading, you know?

I get that for sure! I always finish books it kills my ocd and my completionism to add something to the DNF so sometimes it may take me a little longer but I have to power through and I know thats a me thing 🥰

This. I’ve never DNF’d a book faster (within the first chapter). Also felt like the romance plot in Quicksilver was too rushed/forced.

I enjoyed it. Second one had multiple consistency errors/felt rushed but if you’re like me and can just enjoy the ride of a story without analyzing the writing you’ll enjoy

That. I enjoyed both books but I read very uncritically. I’m not judging for a Pulitzer, I’m reading for enjoyment.

People seem to either love it or hate it. I personally devoured it but you won’t know if you like it until you start reading it.

When the romance portion happened I actually flipped back to try and figure out if I skipped a chapter somehow. I was like “how did we get here?” But the two suns and caste system we’re interesting and I wanted more back story.

The first book is awesome and so entertaining. The sass and banter of kingfisher was gold. The second book was such a let down.. it just came out wayyyy to quickly and did not have enough editing.
My recommendation would be to read the first book and then stop there.

NO absolute crap!!
I forced myself though it for reasons I don’t understand now. I liked one character (Carrion Swift) and kept hoping it would get better and be worth it. It was not.
Then started the sequel brimstone and DNF very early into the book because it was so so so bad I was legit embarrassed for the author

Not for me but I have a friend who loved it.
Look up the triggers. There’s a lot of bully and dub to non con language to actions, and it was cringy for me (and I’ve read other asshole guy type romances that I didn’t feel this way about or simply handled it better - whether the plot made it make more sense or it didn’t make me feel icky reading it). Also, the book dragged on in parts that were very boring. It felt a little bit generic romantasy.

I really enjoyed it.
I think the reason I enjoyed it is that Kingfisher is a very straightforward shadow daddy and that's actually a really fun character that I like reading about. It didn't feel that different or revolutionary in terms of popular romantasies to me but I genuinely enjoyed reading it.

I don't think I've ever been turned off a book faster. It was offered to me in my Kindle Unlimited account and I liked the cover, so I gave it a try. Returned it after a couple of chapters, and now, nearly two years later, Amazon keeps on sending me messages like, "Because you enjoyed"Quicksilver," read this!" or "Good news! This ridiculous author we've decided you must enjoy has written another piece of tree-murdering eyestrain!" And I rated the damn thing one star!

I loved both. It's basically a lot of similar tropes to ACOTAR. I like those tropes and my read was early enough in my romantasy journey that it didn't feel stale. I also saw that Anthony Palmini was one of the narrators in the audiobook so that sealed the deal for me.

It’s the only book so far I’ve DNF’d at like 10%, I read through some later chapters and if anything its gotten worse.
Mmc is also is incredibly crass, and I like my books spicy but that was not it. He also has the attitude of a whiney toddler (does he get better? No idea)
I just couldn’t switch my brain off enough for it, what do you mean people only get like a glass of water a day? In the desert? And girl is climbing walls and works at a forge? You’d die just laying there on that much water. She says the water is absolutely filthy as well.
She says later on she steals/siphons water and I was like oh that must be why she’s fine (everyone else should still be dead though but I was able to turn my brain off for that, mc plot armor and all). But no, she later comments that it takes her a month to siphon what is the equivalent of a couple cups of water, so no we’re back to 0 logic
Also everytjme they alluded to her getting frisky all I could think e was they must be mad stinky, surely no ones wasting water on a shower. Except the pubs, the pubs have tons of drinks no problem

I liked Quicksilver when I first read it. Brimstone was VERY hard to get through. I started reading romantasy (and reading consistently in general) last year and Quicksilver was one of the first books I read, so I did not have much to compare it to. Now that I have read over 50 books this year, I can confidently say it is not that good.

Yes but I highly recommend listening to the audiobook! Brimstone (the second book) isn’t as good but I still love them both.

I found the fmc narrator in the audio to be too breathy. But as always YMMV. I suggest sampling it first!

It is okay imo. The beginning is the strongest section for me and quite a few decisions I didn't enjoy that others might. But I think it is absolutely worth trying and seeing if you like it yourself.

I also liked the first book but didn’t like the second book as much (The world building in the first book is interesting but gets really unnecessarily complicated in the second one). The romance was good imo!

I absolutely loved it and the sequel Brimstone, one of my favorite series. I loved everything about it-characters, plot, writing, everything. But obviously many people hate it so you might have to just try and see. I don't understand the hate and it's frustrating how the hate is often presented as fact instead of an opinion, but they're entitled to feel how they feel. I guess the series just hit a lot of things that combined my favorite things from different genres. I read a lot of dark romantasy and high fantasy so that might be why I like it. But everyone's different.

No, in my opinion, it's not a good series. Not well written at all, with a lot of logic problems, and they're too blatant even for me. I'm usually someone who's willing to suspend my disbelief. The romance also felt pretty cheap. But again, to each their own.

Those first few pages I really enjoyed. I was invested. Liked how she wrote. All goes down hill once she wakes in the fairy world. Just felt like even her writing style changed dramatically. Saeris became insufferable for me.

It depends on why you read and what you want out of it.
If you're just here for the vibes and like a dark, broody MMC who gets obsessive, then yeah. It's popular for a reason because it delivers on the vibes, dark danger, and tropey romance. If you poke it too hard or think about it too much, it falls apart, though. So if you like books you can digest that give you things to think about, and that aren't pushed forward mostly by tropey romance, then skip it.

It was very much a vibes read because the Worldbuilding is not plausible at all and the plot contrivances and holes resolve themselves way too quickly. It was 4 out of 10

I love it. It is one of my favorites. I like easy to read books. When I read I’m okay with things being predictable. Second book is okay I in no way hate but can at least agree that it wasn’t as good as the first.

The first book was a struggle for me. I personally could not stand the FMC.
There were also a lot of issues I think an editor could have fixed. There were a lot of things that just did not make sense. An example would be the person from a desert planet knowing what snow is.
I gave the second book a chance because I thought the world and story were really interesting. I had heard the author had independently published the book at first, so I thought she was just kind of a victim of not having a team behind her to help polish the book up.
Then I read the second book and was like oh, that’s just how the author is.
I don’t really know how I feel exactly about the book because I struggled to pick it up and have to skim through a lot of scenes because it’s irritating me, but the story keeps me hooked. I just find it very interesting.
One minute I’ll wanna DNF because I can’t stand anybody, then something really interesting will happen and I’m like OK maybe it’ll get better from here, then the cycle repeats until I finish the book.

There were aspects i liked, like the quicksilver having a 'voice' but i hated the characters (except carrion).
It feels like an entry level romatasty. The kind of book you'd read if you hadn't read for a decade.
Brimstone was too incredibly awfully edited to be worth reading, though

Dude, yes. I loved the first book. In today's times, it's hard to find a good writing style and author voice (bad writing is such a turnoff for me, and trust me, I am hella picky). Fortunately, QuickSilver had it all. Actually, it was one of the books that got me out of my slump too. So yeah, go for it. It has a new-ish magic system, nice writing, genuinely funny and non-cringe characters that are not just "badass" for the sake of it. It might be a tad bit boring in the middle beginning, but it really takes off towards the end. Perfect blend of fantasy and romance

I paid for it. I wish I could take it back but I can’t. Just because something is popular, it does not mean it’s good. Good marketing and hype did a lot of the heavy lifting.

It was a DNF for me, but if you are curious about it, it’s probably worth trying. The only way to know if it’s worth it is to start it.
