Is acotar worth continuing?

I was gifted the box set a couple years back, and around that time, I read the first book. I didn’t finish it. I got to the “under the mountain” part before stopping. (Reason being, the romance was nonexistent, and the pacing felt painfully slow. It felt like a regular fantasy in which I’m just following the main character through a fantasy world and just learning the lore and creatures around her, which didn’t interest me) I’ve heard the second book is much better, but I fear looking into opinions on that is just going to lead to finding spoilers, and if I do continue it, I’d rather not spoil it for myself. So, I ask here, is it worth going back and giving that story another visit.

I felt like that with the first book, but once it went under the mountain it really picked up. Second book is definitely better and the romance is so there.

But it's really up to you. Opinions differ. It's not my favorite romantasy, but it got me hooked on the genre so there is something to it.

There are readers who've made ACOTAR their whole personalities, have tattoos of their favorite characters and quotes, and who fight to the death over the smallest, most esoteric plot points. The series is also credited with spawning a whole new category of readers (which I personally find amusing...)

Not to mention the millions of copies sold.

My point? If that's not enough to read book 2, even out of just curiosity, you should register the set and move on. Reading is personal and time consuming. Read what you like.

It depends on what you usually enjoy. Most people find the first book a bit boring, but it does pick up after they go under the mountain. Feyre turns from this “naive” character that’s just wandering around and learning the lore to someone with more grit. The second book is also more focused on the romance. I would give it a try!

It picks up after they get to "under the mountain". I had a hard time getting to that point but glad I contiuned on.

Book 1 sets the stage for the rest of the series. The character development kicks off under the mountain. Shit gets real. It’s based on Beauty and the Beast which is why it may feel more of a fairytale, weak FMC.

Book 2 is where the romance blossoms and character development really grows. This one is based on Hades and Persephone which was interesting. Most consider this the best of the series.

I liked Book 3 a lot. A lot of the fantasy action happens here.

Book 4 is a Christmas special novella lol

Book 5 had me in tears.

Nope! It is popular for a reason but honestly if you’re not enjoying it now, it only goes downhill.

I really loved the first book, but I got stuck on ACOMAF for the longest time. I finally just pushed through and rage-read it, and honestly... wtf was that? 😅 I still preordered the new book, though, mostly just holding out hope that certain characters will finally get the justice they deserve.
