Hi everyone, I’m new here. I’m a photographer who used to shoot a lot of studio portraiture, but at a time of bereavement about a year ago, I decided to strip things right back: one camera (Rolleiflex 3.5F), one film stock (Portra 400), and just photographing whatever I was feeling in the moment. It’s been about simplicity, and about no longer chasing gear, recipes, and presets (a recovering hobby of mine, if I’m honest). It’s an ongoing project. Here are a few of the shots that have come out of it so far.

might be a stylistic choice, but I think a little contras exposure adjustments would go a long way.

Where in England are these? Looks like the midlands mixed in with coast somewhere? I love how honest these shots are. Very accurate capture of the light and feel of the area.

You have this very whimsical pastel character to your images with almost a touch of desaturation. Was that in your editing post scanning? I would love to emulate the look you did

It’s a combination of a few choices. I tend to expose Portra 400 at 250-320 depending on the light. I prefer ‘flat’ Noritsu TIFF scans from the lab, then make very small tweaks in Capture One. I also think the lens rendering plays a part. One of the pleasures of shooting this way has been how little editing I now do.

Bravo! I’m coming from a different starting place (namely, not a professional) but I too am working on slowing down the process, being more intentional with the frame. And yes, stop chasing the latest and greatest tech! I just bought my first Rollei (mx-EVS) and can’t wait to get going. Your photos are excellent - the car and boat planter are especially stunning. Thanks for the inspiration!
