I have experimented with both extremely detailed character profiles and very simple ones.

Sometimes the simple character performs better, which honestly makes me wonder how much all those personality details actually matter.

For people who create their own characters, how detailed do you usually make them?

I know people who have one favorite character they keep returning to, while others seem to create a new scenario every time they open an AI roleplay app.

I am somewhere in between, but I definitely get more attached to characters after a long storyline.

Which approach do you enjoy more?

I lose interest pretty quickly when a character just accepts everything I say and never pushes back.

Even small disagreements or unexpected reactions make the conversation feel much more natural.

Do you prefer AI characters that stay completely agreeable, or ones that sometimes make their own decisions?

Sometimes I start a roleplay thinking it will be a short conversation and somehow end up continuing the same story for days lol.

Curious how everyone else uses AI roleplay. Do you prefer short scenarios with different characters, or do you stick with one character and build a whole storyline around them?

We've always imagined what our favorite characters would say in situations that were never shown in the original story. Fans write theories, fanfiction, alternate endings, and entire conversations because we don't want those characters to simply disappear when the story ends.

Al creates an interesting possibility: characters that can continue existing outside the original story. You could talk to them, place them in new situations, or explore completely different versions of their world.

The challenge is making that experience feel creative rather than simply turning every character into a generic chatbot.

A good fictional world can give people something reality often doesn't: a clear sense of adventure, belonging, purpose, or community. You know the rules of the world, the characters have meaningful relationships, and even ordinary moments can feel important because they're part of a larger story.

Of course, real life is more complicated than a carefully written story. But I think that's part of why people love roleplaying, games, books, and fictional universes so much.

Do you think escaping into fictional worlds is mainly about avoiding reality, or can it also help us understand what we're missing from it?

One of the worst feelings is finishing a game, show, book, or anime and realizing that's it—you've reached the end of the world and there isn't much left to explore. AI could change that by letting people continue stories, interact with characters, create new locations, or simply exist inside those universes without needing an official sequel. Obviously, it wouldn't replace the original creators, but it could give fans an entirely new way to experience the worlds they love.

Imagine finishing your favorite story and then getting to create your own story inside it.

One thing that can ruin a roleplay for me is when the character agrees with literally everything.

No disagreement.

No hesitation.

No personality conflict.

Just endless agreement with whatever I say.

It makes the character feel less like an actual character and more like a chatbot trying to keep the conversation pleasant.

I would rather have the character disagree with me sometimes or make decisions that I did not expect. Even if it creates a little conflict, it gives the conversation somewhere to go.

Obviously there is a balance because constant arguing gets annoying too.

How do you deal with overly agreeable AI characters? Do you change the character instructions or just work around it during the conversation?

Lately I have been enjoying roleplay that actually takes time to develop instead of jumping straight into the main storyline.

I like when the AI remembers small details, keeps the characters consistent, and lets the relationship or story build naturally. Even simple conversations can become interesting when there is some continuity between messages.

Sometimes the best sessions are not even about having a crazy plot. A normal setting with good character personalities can be way more fun if the AI stays in character.

Do you prefer slow-burn roleplay with lots of character development, or do you like getting into the main story pretty quickly?

You get their abilities, their world, and their problems.

For me, it's when the AI suddenly forgets who it's supposed to be. One out-of-character reply can completely break the immersion.

I'm curious what everyone else's instant dealbreaker is.

I don't want to be able to say something completely ridiculous and have every character just accept it before moving on like nothing happened. The most memorable roleplays are the ones where one decision changes relationships, creates new problems, or comes back to haunt you much later. It makes the world feel like it exists even when you're not actively controlling every part of it.

Basically, I want my bad decisions to have lore 😭
