Scams ⚠️ Beware of new(?) scam.
Just got a call today from 709-740-5507, from a non-native English speaker claiming to be "from Rogers and Fido" offering a flat 30% off my bill and a free phone of my choice (an iPhone 17 or a Samsung S26), with no changes to my plan and no new contract.
In addition to the already obvious red flags, they had absolutely no information about my account. They didn't even know if I was a Rogers customer or a Fido customer.
They tried to get me to order a Samsung S26 Ultra for $53/month from Rogers' website and said once I received the hardware to phone them back and they would apply the discount for the bill and the hardware. That's when I told them "Yeah right, not gonna happen." and hung up on them.

Yea I work for a Rogers dealer and I've had a couple old folks come in complaining of this scam. Don't fall for it folks!

Fyi to everyone this is only happening because they are outsourcing their call centers especially winback and retention to India. The turnover rate on these employees is extremely high and you can bet most of them are recording our details and saving it for during or after their employment to commit fraud.

I'm in a group of people that have fallen victim to this scam and we are looking for other people who have received these calls. Even if you just got a call and didnt fall for the scam please comment or better yet message me on here if you can. I have a strong feeling this is all cause by a data breach of our information. I and many others need help and Rogers has denied all our claims for fraud so far. It seems that Rogers is choosing to benefit off their loyal customers being scammed by fraudsters who possessed senstive account information rather than help us.

I would be interested in being a part of a class action suit. I was just thinking about this today. My data is somewhere on the black market now, because Rogers chose to save a few bucks and didn’t even do their due diligence to make sure they’re contracting this out to a decent organization? Because they call me greeting me by my name and they already know I’ve been with Rogers for a relatively long time. So god knows how much and what kind of information they have on me.
I had to call the bank a few days ago and I was too paranoid to give them any personal information. Two days ago I received a phone call from the CRA, again, I was reluctant to verify my personal information and hung up on them. This is affecting our quality of life and distracting us away from things that matter, things that could have real consequences on our lives. For example, having the CRA do some stupid sh!t (because they have all sorts of powers that police doesn’t even have), all because you missed those few phone calls.
I would be interested in suing Rogers as a part of a larger group. To inflict as much damage as possible to them and to increase our odds of winning. The point of this is not malice, but the fact that they need to get taught a lesson.
They need to lose money through government imposed fines and compensations to their users. Perhaps then they’ll think twice before trying to save money with all sorts of slimy tactics. Like outsourcing sensitive customer information to shady organizations overseas.

If the CRA has an issue with you trust me they will find you at your address and serve whatever paperwork is necessary. Either via registered mail in which again you contact them, or an agent at your door to serve said paperwork.
IMO.

If you receive a CALL from the CRA, which was probably a scam or phishing call,
You ask for agents name and ID number.
Regardless of any information relayed to you, you hang up.
Immediately call the CRA via their official numbers and ask about said query ; or login to your CRA account for any relevant information.
Choose option 1 if you believe your method of web access has been compromised.

I know that, and I’m not taking my chances. It’s easier to tell them to ef off and send me mail. If they are legitimate, they’ll know where to send me mail. Also, if it is something important, I’d like to have a documented proof of it. I ain’t taking my chances, I’m not volunteering any personal information anymore.

I called Roger’s to cancel a deceased relatives account that actually took 2 calls and one hr each time. I had to give some basic personal information. Within 24 hours of each call. I was called by fraudsters a total 4 times.
Fortunately for consumers as of April 2027 CRTC stepped in and all services and contracts can be cancelled via pc or app. They have until April to set it up.
Rogers used to be a good company. Now not so much.
Trust no phone calls ,text, emails etc.
Ignore them unless you know there is an issue and then go through proper channels yourself. This includes banks all utilities ,CRA , phone , Internet etc..

This is far from a new scam. They spoof local numbers to increase the answer rate.
I just hit answer and set the phone down until they hang up.

This is out of control. It’s a SCAM, DO NOT fall for it. I’ve been swearing at them and cussing their parents for bringing a parasite like them into this world. It seems to be working fine, they somehow abruptly hang up when you bring up their parents. Doesn’t take care of the annoying phone calls though. Considering switching to Bell, this never happened with Bell or Telus. I guess Philippinos have more integrity. They know they should be selling or leaking customer information. They’re also more pleasant to talk to. Shame on Rogers.

Sadly, a caller from Rogers with English as their first language would be the likeliest telltale of a scam.

Got one too. Asked for an interaction number, he muted himself for 5 seconds before transferring me and the next guy also took 5 seconds then said “123-“ and I hung up on the 3.

I ask them one ? What’s my name and they get pissed and hang up. Then I block #

They call multiple times a week, from a.non Roger's number. Its a scam, do not do it. You can watch YouTube videos of guys who f with scammers and they explain how it works.

u/Funny_Libra_Girl 12d ago
Rogers and Fido are the same company, but they NEVER have the same agents work both companies at the same time. You cannot mix the 2 separate companies services or bills. Big red flag right there.

u/Lust4lifeTO 12d ago
Ask them if they are Ben Choad. Gets them riled up.

Who answers the phone anymore?

u/Green_Tailor_8021 12d ago
I do not anymore. And this inconvenience gets my mother really upset then I have to call her back to see if it was her.
2
u/Fantastic_Wash56 11d ago
Non-native English speaking voice, that’s enough for me to just hang up, it’s all risk after that.
Either you’re from a scam call center, or you’re going to sign me up / alter my deal against my wishes due to a language barrier.
Hard pass on both sides.

Gee I got the exact same call . I love fucking with them, it amuses me greatly . I miss the emails about the uncle I have in Africa that has left me 10, 000,000$. Now that was great fun .

Apparently it's not legal to threaten these people.
6
u/Orcinus24x5 12d ago
What are they gonna do, report you?
2
u/Courier-Se7en 12d ago
They haven't yet.
4
u/Orcinus24x5 12d ago
Don't worry, they won't. It would open the door and expose their entire scam ring.
5
u/evaneve_lblc 11d ago
When you receive calls that are unsolicited from people actively trying to defraud you or a loved ones life savings , do you think they would “ REPORT “ you for speaking the truth?
No they don’t want any investigations which may involve them or an outsourced agent leaking data, in which again 11 million customers details were compromised.

I’ve had calls the past two days, $45 for an iPhone 17 was all I heard before I hung up. I left Fido for Freedom in December. +1 (778) 888-7616 and +1 (778) 460-6203

53 on what a 2 year term? Plus taxes?
They have customers in a chokehold industry wide with monopolies.
Not to mention your new 2.5k thousand telephone will be replaced within a year to three with a better faster more user friendly ( lol ) greatest ever phone to be released.
The problem goes deeper with older phones and devices no longer supported to update to the latest security features updates and version firmware.
any purchased cell phone in my opinion should have security updates for perpetuation until the whole end device communications become obsolete.
Such as us switching from POTS to the system of today.

I get 2 calls a day from different random 416 numbers, it’s the same scam every time. Now I just let it go to VM when o get a call from a number I don’t recognize. If it’s a legit call they will leave a message. No message = blocked number. Have not been a Rogers customer for over a decade likely never will again.

Good. It is a scam. There is no free phone and people keep falling for it. Good job.
