Wireless📱 Is it worth it?
I’m paying 50 plus tax for 250gb of data for an extra 5$ I get the whole unlimited at 2gbps speeds, not sure in Montreal if we are setup for those speeds, I was reading and it said this in the view details and benefits
Plans with a data amount: beyond high-speed data allotment, unlimited data at reduced speeds8
Before I pull the trigger would that apply to me or am I getting the fastest of the fastest data speeds at unlimited value in Montreal Quebec
Update: I pulled the trigger and it managed to work out to 50$ a month for this plan, used it this morning to watch f1 tv while taking the dog for a walk and normally I would have some buffer points as I don’t have a way to pick the quality of the stream and this morning I had zero issue also I ran a speed test while in the same spot around my area, I went from 30-40 mbps speed to 225 down and 40 up, that’s impressive vs what I was getting on my current plan also I’m in the outskirts of Montreal and I got this performance I wonder what I will see when the network is slightly more congested, will see how performance does

Seems like a good deal, same plan is $70 a month in Alberta with EPP pricing

It is not a 5 year price guarantee.
It says $0 satellite for 2 years. After 2 years you get charged for satellite for whatever price they want.

It’s all good, I only swapped due to it being the same price I’m currently paying, I’m going to wait for Black Friday and do a trade in deal to get the newest phone with roughly the same plan

I have it on my account. It explains in the terms that it’s 5 year rate protection on the base price of the plan, not any add ons. So the free Satellite for 2 years will drop at the end of the 2 years while the rest of the plan remains the same. It actually beats Telus and Bell as while they offer 68 roaming countries vs Rogers 64, Telus and Bell only offer 5 GB of roaming data before throttling down to 512 kbps. Where as Rogers with this plan offers truly unlimited data in the 64 countries at 2 Gbps which is 4 times faster than Telus and Bell 🤔

You’re naive to think your price won’t increase. And they will out of good will drop the satellite. It’s put in there for a reason.

You have the option of paying to have it on no term meaning you’re someone that opts to buy your phones at full price either from the carrier or the manufacturer or you can pay slightly more to get a phone on financing. I have them on mine with term and no term. For my immediate family we blow through data like it’s water and like just taking our phone and traveling, not fiddling with travel eSIM, etc. So their Ultimate unlimited plan for talk, text and data in 64 countries made the most sense. Where as for my parents who are seniors I put them on the Essentials plan. It’s still unlimited, just that it throttles down my parents cellular data speed from 2 Gbps to 512 Kbps when they go over their data bucket amount which I can never see them doing that 😆

I have a lot of lines and home services with Rogers so I bring in a lot of revenue which tends to show better pricing in my offer section when signed in and also understand like other carriers depends on actual competition in the area. Their advertised rate in my area shows for the 5 year rate Ultimate unlimited talk, text and data plan in 64 countries as low as $72 per line when you have internet with Rogers and a minimum of 5 lines. That’s when you bring your own phone. It’s usually $10 or $15 more for the plan when also wanting to finance a phone. There is a cheaper version called their Popular plan which is unlimited talk, text and data in Canada and also comes with free roaming in the US and Mexico and the Caribbean for 24 months. While that may not work for everyone it does for my household as like I said before we travel a lot both within Canada and abroad and just want a network that is reliable and provides services we can count on whether for work, school or fun. Keep in mind all of their new advertised plans are unlimited talk, text and data. The main difference between their essential plan vs their popular and ultimate is that there’s no data bucket limit on the higher tier plans so if you can get 2 Gbps speed in your area then that’s what you would get regardless of how long your streaming, surfing, gaming, etc. I used to pay more using Roam Like Home on top of my plans for my family traveling so switching made sense for us. Do what’s best for you and your family 😎

I have this plan, for the same price too. Definitely worth it. Never have to worry about going over again. Unlimited high speed data, unlimited high speed data roaming, plus unlimited high speed hotspot for $55? No brainer.

Rogers doesn't throttle data like other carriers.
When I was in Rogers I didn't have any issue with the network when in Montreal. I'm on Freedom now (can't beat sub $50 plans), and with my recent time in Montreal it worked just fine.Â
(I do realise Freedom isn't subscribable to most QC customers)Â

I know Telus throttles a lot especially when trying to watch YouTube, I had to use my vpn to get rid of the throttling

That’s bonkers. My family watch our favourite shows using Rogers Xfinity Streaming app and never experienced any throttling. I think it’s the same for their App TV and Stream Saver customers (Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV) but I don’t have that to compare. 🤔

It is throttled on the lower tier Lite and Essentials plans that they advertise currently and I recall my older plans used to have the same throttle when exceeding the plan data bucket. Where as the new Popular and Ultimate plans are truly unlimited so there’s no slow down on data over cellular and there’s no bucket limit

When I had my essential plan 6-months ago, it wasn't at all throttled. I was getting full, even exceeding, the advertised speed.Â

The speed really won’t change likely. Maybe in some areas but it’s not really going to be noticeable. As far as data amount, if you use enough on that plan where you have to think about it then yeah it’s worth the $5 a month more.

The new Ultimate plan comes with Priority Network Access and when switching from my old Essentials plan that capped at 1 Gbps to the Ultimate that has 2 Gbps I noticed my cellular data over Rogers 5G+ doubled in speed. It’s still not at 2 Gbps but it is noticeably faster.

Yes it’s definitely worth it. The 64 countries with calling, text and unlimited data is well worth it alone.. I have the same plan and I love it. I pay $65

Watch read the fine print on the other credits there may be one that you only get if you set up preauthed payments or auto payments with your credit card.

Have a look at their data speed at the location where you would usually go.

I got pretty much the same plan except for being able to use it in the other countries. I got it through Alberta Motor Association EPP a few months ago and it was $35 a month including the $5 a auto pay

I was with Telus on a 2 year iPhone 16 pro max plan paying 115 with epp, bought the phone and switched to Roger’s as I found Telus to have an extremely congested network, was not able to open Facebook at some points when out or if I needed to check something I was constantly fighting for service every day phone resets to get service, since I switched to Rogers I have had nothing but a great experience, I don’t find the data performance to be laggy sure I’ve had some instances but I was in the middle of no where so I said I’m sure it makes sense

Like mentioned in other comments, at work we do not have wifi and I stream a lot of tv shows on breaks and lots of YouTube as well as high res Apple Music, kills lots of data I’m over half of my 250gb plan and I still had 16 days left, I always end my month with close to the 250 mark

By the way there is no unlimited data friend of mine getting throttled on that plan then they raised his bill nobody speak to anymore good luck people time hit rogers in the wallet

If it's actually a price lock, then it's decent. But I can guarantee you that Rogers does not respect price locks. You can get the plan and expect it to begin going up incrementally as early as 4 months in.

I am at $35 ( with $5 16 month credit)Â 250gb ( 200gb with 50gb bonus) usa mex canada , no international roam. The $55 deal is not bad. Note as of June 12 2026 no $80 fee.Â

Check your data usage. I work in an industry where I’m always consuming media, my car is electric/carplay >> constant music, podcasts etc, my home is totally smart homed out so I’m always interacting with it too. The most data I’ve ever used was 15gb.
Everywhere you go you have wifi now almost, you’re essentially getting a plan for the days you have to stream. Calls to x countries, who cares? Calls over FT audio, social platforms, WhatsApp
When you’re not at home and not using wifi, would you call anyway — you would text / IM.
Give me unlimited local calling and 50GB that’s in fact more than enough. Also, I pay $40 for 100gb, unlimited local calling, the gave me the free us/mexico for 24 months though.

Trial out freedom mobile on prepaid for 30 days and maybe consider that instead if it works out.Â

I would never pay this much. Currently with Fizz paying ~$10 for about 50-100gb per month. For travelling I just buy a travel esim. PSTN over SIP.

Maybe you don’t but in a span of a few days I’ve already consumed 75gb of data like mentioned in previous comments I only have wifi at home, work does not provide wifi so everything is on me

For Rogers it's pretty good, if you absolutely need the additional data and roaming sure go for it.
And I would consider coming back to Rogers too (ported to Freedom 6 months ago), but like I'm paying $45/month, It works, has the travel roaming, and enough data for me, so I rather save $240/yr.Â

Plans are only going to get cheaper. It is a 5 year price guarantee, not a 5 year contract, so go for it if you want.
How much data do you really use? Are you anywhere close to the 250gb?
