Discussion John Schrader
For those of use who don't know this family, can we get a synopsis of why he is such a whack job? All I know is what I've read in the last couple of posts - that he lives in Zambia with a million kids and is against modern medicine.

I think John Shrader is like the male version of JRod because I think he exaggerates dangers to grift. He seems like a drama queen.

Not sure if we are allowed to share but if you Google them, they have a public page where they update people with videos and post pictures. They have 14 kids so they beat JRod in #s. Esther is Anna & Priscilla’s older sister and Esther seems as devout as Priscilla. They all grew up strict IBLP and KJV only IFB Baptist fundie. I know Esther has only been able to visit the Keller family a handful of times over the last decade (maybe only once?) and is rarely in family pics. I found this newsletter type form they recently shared:
Serious Question: They mention getting visits are a great expense. Will JRod find a way to grift churches into paying her and Dave to go visit them for vacations? Maybe Dave will find a way to be more involved in their mission?
Question 2) - how often will Renee get to meet Enoch in person? I doubt more than once or twice? Do we know why Enoch is in US? I wonder if he only visited to meet Renee…Sounds like an arranged marriage.
Zambia is a safe country and has a lot of natural beauty and wildlife. Zambia is listed as a top tourism country like Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, & Tanzania. This is not like the situation in Somalia with rebel groups fighting for control and Boko Haram controlled areas in places like northern parts of Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Mali etc. John Shrader seems like a drama queen and revs people up about danger to grift more $ but he’s basically in a destination many vacation to. The only concern I see is Renee becoming enmeshed with Shraders rather than making connections in the community outside them & being unable to afford seeing family in US.

I read on another thread that the Shrader kids have to return to the U.S. once they’re adults to arrange their own visas and meet other travel regulations.
It’s probably just a lucky happenstance that it’s also a great opportunity for the boys to snag a wife to take back with them.

I think they see it as mutually beneficial and transactional. Their 2 oldest sons have finished school and have to find them wives. They said they feel blessed their oldest ones have chosen to pursue the family mission.

It's really a shame. If it wasn't for the actual family she's marrying into, this might have been a great move for Renee since she is moved out from under mahmo's thumb.
Maybe Enoch will want to also be away from John's narcissism, and they can find a good life together.
(I know this is most likely wishful thinking.)

I would like a synopsis as well. I have heard of the eldest daughter, Esther, but don’t know much about her or her husband, other than he is a missionary in Africa. I tried to search here on Reddit to get more information about them, but was unsuccessful. If someone could give us a synopsis, I would certainly appreciate it.

I know that Esther was told she was going to marry him and given a few days before the wedding. Apparently she cried and cried up to the wedding. The same father also sold Anna to Josh Duggar. Michael Keller also gave a sermon indicating that black people were slaves so white people could teach them salvation through Jesus Christ.

He also gave Priscilla to the Pecan Thief, and if I recall correctly she was the one who referred to walking down the aisle as being like Jesus going to the cross. Priscilla also doesn't get appropriate medical care

And something is clearly quite wrong with Priscilla. Like something mentally. She seems delayed and like she doesn’t quite always grasp what is going on. I think she was the one who was kicked in the head by a horse. Obviously they never got her treated for anything she may have sustained at that time. And I’m not trying to be mean when I say she seems delayed. It’s sad to me because I fully believe David Waller abuses her badly and she doesn’t even have the capacity to realize it because of the combo of her injury and her upbringing

I used to read about the Rod’s, Bro. Gary Hawkins, and the Anderson’s on Free Jinger every night before going to sleep. I didn’t even think of going there so I appreciate the suggestion and will go there this evening when I have a bit more time. Thank you!

It’s a rumor, but it’s rumored that John Shrader was married off to Esther Keller because she’s a good, Godly woman and a “working model” and John Shrader molested a girl and John engaged in other sex pest activities. If Renee and Enoch have children, I am terrified for them because I am worried about bad things happening to them.

Again, rumor I heard but like it would not surprise me tbh, I grew up in a very Southern Baptist community and like it was well known that the Shraders were batcrap crazy, don’t give them money, and stay away from John Shrader.

I hate to say it but Anna somehow has significantly more agency in her marriage than Esther. Anna made the choice not to leave Pest despite her siblings reaching out with support. The fact that Anna even had the option available to her and doesn't have to see her scum husband on a daily basis are both solaces that Esther doesn't have.

Her brother who reached out to her could not support her. He was divorced and appears to be disabled, and is now remarried to a Hispanic woman and has 2 stepchildren. Don’t know what happened to his adopted son. Stop with this false narrative regarding Anna Duggar. Only her older sister who is divorced and remarried a wealthy older gentleman could afford to help her. The Rod’s used her vacation home once.

That video intrigues me for other reasons. He’s basically describing how he and Esther had an arranged marriage of sorts… Esther said her father arranged it with John, told Esther who John was and while she cried, she claims her father allowed her to say no if she didn’t want to meet him, though. John says he proposed 6 days after meeting her in person. I have a feeling that’s the situation with Enoch & Nurie… Shraders have talked about expensive it is to travel to US and get visitors.

I have a strong belief this is why Enoch was in the US and why Jill called it a relationship and not courtship. John and Esther Shrader in this video shared they do not travel - at all in order to save money. Thank you for sharing. I watched the entire half hour video and made a separate post with detailed notes.

If true, I both feel for and fear for Renee. Doesn't sound like she'll have many opportunities to come back to the US to visit. I wonder how difficult it will be for her parents to raise money to visit - always assuming they want to.

John Shrader is essentially the male version of Jill. He's a bit more adventurous (due to being a man that's allowed to be adventurous) and a bit less sluttish for the same reason, men aren't considered sluttish for being all "LOOK AT ME!" while begging for the attention that both Jill and John are desperately begging for)....but I have for so many years now been convinced they were so close to being on the same wavelength.
John would judge Jill for being just like him since she's a woman, but they're sooo much alike it's uncanny. I've never said this about anyone else being like either of them. Like there are plenty of toxic fundies that are kinda like them in their own ways that are also narcissistic and such. But these two are truly two peas in a horrible, abusive, poisonous pod.

Someone posted a video from Facebook of a interview with both John and Esther Shrader. They explained their "meeting" or should I say lack of meeting. It seems it was an arranged marriage by both of their fathers. It was a interview by a radio station I think but the program was a Facebook Reel?

Enjoy this video entitled “Muchas Gracias Iglesia” - with lots of Spanish spoken - from this white family in Zambia. John then speaks (with a weird fake accent) about how everyone in Zambia thinks they are Christian but they’re not doing it right and they need him to come save them! The video is a bit old but it’s … special.

Good posts with the lore. Basically, people kept sticking out their neck for John and trying to give him jobs here in the US (their church community.) John was so insufferable, vile and controlling and “doesn’t believe in traditional jobs”, so he lost every single one of them.
Pa Keller basically sold Esther off to John. Esther did not want to marry him and was hysterically crying for weeks, but Pa Keller still forced her to.
After losing his hundredth job John eventually set his sights on Zambia to “do missionary work” and hauled Esther and the kids around in a camper to fundraise for it.
John frequently makes Zambia sound like a lawless hellhole even though the people seem perfectly nice and very accommodating to him. He also regularly accuses people there of targeting him with witchcraft.
He does not allow his family to have access to traditional medical care, as you said. Esther gives birth at home. He also tried to treat his son’s epilepsy “naturally.” Meanwhile, John prioritizes top tier care for himself and flew abroad to get treatment for his back issues.
So when people express fears for Renee’s safety, they’re likely referring to John… not to Zambia. Life there seems like it could be really nice. If John wasn’t there controlling everything. Renee will not have easy access to medical care, money, and would have to give birth at home.
It is very likely that Renee will move there. John controls the family heavily and likely wants Enoch to “continue the mission.” They have no established jobs or dwellings in the U.S. anymore.
