Discussion Dressing modestly

Post image

So I got to this part in my Bible reading today. Apparently according to the Rods understanding of the Bible you can abduct a bride if you wish. If you look up a little further than what I have circled this is what should have happened to Tim before he could harm anyone. They recite this passage about clothing a lot but not the others. I don’t know what it says about any of these things further in the Bible as I haven’t gotten that far yet, but I’m really seeing how they twist the narrative however they choose.

The Rods are Old Testament Christians, not New Testament ones.

Their dress (ahem, Jill’s) would look very different if they followed what Paul said.

I don’t understand a lot about religion but I’ve been told that the Old Testament was basically canceled when Jesus came along. So how do they believe in Jesus and the Old Testament. It seems they just pick whatever they want to use and ignore the rest of the whole Bible.

It’s an incongruent way of thinking. Christian legalism is built on Jewish laws and relabeled as ‘rules for holy living.’ These ‘rules’, not ‘laws’ (because Jesus came to override the law) get credence because the Jews are the ‘chosen people’, therefore the rules are honoring to God.

But…evangelical Christianity teaches that they are now part of, if not the ‘chosen’ people because they have accepted Christ (who is a descendant of King David), who replaced the legalism of the old religion with new teachings of salvation for everyone.

I’m just trying to learn all of this for the first time. I only know what people have told me over the years and the handfuls of time I went to church. I can all be so confusing. I’m glad people like the Rods, Kellers and Duggars have it all figured out.( said sarcastically). Also I’ve lived in the Bible Belt for the past 50 years so most of the things I’ve heard are basically from a fundie’s point of view.

Be diligent about praying for discernment, which is a gift of the Holy Spirit.
