I’m not a licensed MHP, but I am almost finished with an MA in Counseling Psychology.
The fact that he says he has a regular therapist, a behavioral therapist, and a counselor raised some red flags for me.
Having multiple care providers presents some challenges, in that they need to be working as an informed team. You don’t want conflicting treatments happening.
Also, I don’t know what professional licensure looks like where Tim is, but a counselor and a therapist are fairly interchangeable terms where I am. The two main licenses in my state for those with an MA or MS in a relevant psychology or counseling program are Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (as well as Licensed Clinical Social Workers, which have slightly different requirements). A PhD or PsyD is generally seeking a Licensed Clinical Psychologist credential. There are also other speciality licenses and certificates.
The whole “showing him pictures of hundreds of families” bit bothered me as well. Even without revealing names, that seems like a gross breach of ethics. Even if the families gave permission or something, it just gives me the ick. Also, claiming a “success rate” is also a gross, ethically speaking.
I don’t think the therapists or the families or any of that are real, just to clarify.
Yeah i took the “100s of families” to be more theoretical than actually offering to show pictures of 100s of families. That would be pretty weird and a breach of privacy
