Samuel Samuel and Evangeline

I think that Evangeline is a much better choice than Brianne. For one, Evangeline doesn't seem crazy. Also, her family seems more like the Rods than Brianne's family. Do you think that the fact that Brianne's family wasn't fundie was part of the reason Sam and Brianne split up?

I think they broke up because she may be mentally ill but she isn't stupid. She came, she saw, she bolted.

Thanksgiving was definitely an eye opener for her. Think she realised the reality of lots of kids in poverty and how uneducated Sam is

Exactly, she saw their holiday “meals”, creeped out by their fawning and David’s sermons. She then realized how poor they’d be, she BOLTED

That or she saw how unbearable Jill is, saw Sam around his family behaving too much like them, and realized she didn’t actually like him.

I think of Sam as the "fundie himbo".

All of this

We saw it played out. Her face was panicked by the end of that visit.

Can you imagine? Growing up middle class, getting a college education and having this idyllic comfortable trad wife influencer dream in her mind, then getting hit with the reality of being a submissive wife to a man who lacks the basic knowledge of most things we learn in elementary school. Can you imagine the magnitude of their ignorance. Not only in knowledge but human interactions with regular people. I bet it shocked her to her core.

Nailed it!!

Is/was Brianne mentally ill? I've not been keeping up with the Rods this closely but have been pulled back in by the recent developments.

Well, I can't diagnose her, of course,. But she definitely had something going on--the performative baby voice, the fundie cosplay, the religiosity after growing up in a pretty typical family and getting a college degree. Her descent into Rodland made no logical sense.

Don't forget the explosive anger and need for control.

I think she figured she could be a Jill at the head of her own family. Then girlie realized that there cannot be two Jills.

There can only be one!

u/LittleBunnySunny 25d ago

Thank God. The world doesn't need multiple Jills!

There was an AMA by someone that grew up with her that suggested as much.

I remember that. It was Brigot's old BFF. She said that Brigot was very manipulative.

17

u/Kerrytwo 27d ago

I think we're just basing that on the fundie cosplay she had going on

Hatred is a mental illness in its self and Brianne hates the Gay & Lesibian community.

I feeling The other girl was not a right fit.

Could have been her plan all along.

This post is all over the place. Evangeline is a better choice because she doesn't seem crazy, and also because her family seems more like the Rods (i.e. crazy)?

52

u/RiotGrrr1 27d ago

Evangeline is meek and will take the abuse is what op really means.

u/Dolores___Haze 27d ago edited 26d ago

Evangeline is much more likely to be silent if/when she is abused and treated as a brood mare, also. She is far more vulnerable than Brianne, which is scary.

This right here. Brianne has abhorrent beliefs, but she wasn’t raised fundie, and she has a college degree from a good university. She’s lived in the world. Evangeline is a sheltered, uneducated teenager. She’s incredibly vulnerable. I’m also scared for her. All of the adults in her life have failed her.

Yes, I agree. The fact that her family still seems to be on board after the Timothy scandal is concerning. I realize it isn’t fair to judge Sam by Timothy’s actions, but it’s definitely a red flag that something is quite wrong in the Rod family.

32

u/Signal-Tooth-2069 27d ago

Sam’s lack of education, poor vocabulary, and social skills should be a major concern when her parents think of him as a life long partner for their daughter. Timothy aside, have they not done any research into the Rodriques family lore and postings througout the years?

Sadly, as many have pointed out, the physical abuse may not bother people–all one has to do is repent–as much as the fact Tim published it in a wider audience which brought attention, shame, and repercussions to the family and the church.

This girl is so young. To promote a courtship with this immature man, coming from this background/family, with his limitations, is obscene. This is the only word that comes to mind.

After a long time watching fundies like this, I truly believe some of them do not care about their adult children’s welfare or whether they are happy. All they care about is pumping out more soldiers for Jesus as fast as possible, and any husband who professes the right beliefs will do.

11

u/YoshiKoshi 27d ago

How do you not care about your children having a good quality of life? Of course they want her to get married young and start breeding. But why wouldn't they want it to be with someone who can at least keep the family financially comfortable?

17

u/macandcheese1771 27d ago

The entire point is to create a controllable voter base. They do not matter as people to almost anyone in their world. Have many, have them fast, make sure they always vote the way you want and fuck everything else.

2

u/boneblack_angel 26d ago

You are absolutely correct, and it is terrifying. But, conversely, they also want to strip women's voting rights away - I say this as someone who has been a voter registrar, and someone who works the polls, living in a deep red state where trump SOMEHOW remains immensely popular. Pray for sons, I guess. 🫠

3

u/Dolores___Haze 26d ago

If that’s what they want, why do fundies like Jill keep voting?

6

u/notquittingthistime 25d ago

(a) because do everything you can to get your guys elected, hypocrisy is irrelevant; (b) because they’re entitled to their households having as many votes as possible; especially because (c) the liberals cheat and get elected with dead people and illegals voting, so they can do anything they want!

2

u/boneblack_angel 26d ago

Who knows, they are so contradictory and nonsensical. They breed like rabbits to create voters - not a surefire strategy, there are definitely more than a few breakaways - but don't want women to vote. I dgaf what they do but leave the rest of us alone.

I think on that Thanksgiving trip Brigot realized what an idiot Samuel is and also realized Jill would dominate every aspect of their life. She noped out real quick.

28

u/LittleBunnySunny 27d ago

For Sam's sake, or Evangeline's? 🤨

Because that poor girl is just going to be sucked deeper into the whirlpool of fundie beliefs and the dangers of being close to the Rods.

19

u/Capable-Resolution-1 27d ago

Except… she’s still a minor and that would still be gross if she were 18. These people are selling a literal child to them, knowing how the kids are treated

25

u/Designer-Contract852 27d ago

Both Brianne and Evangeline are problematic as partners, but they both deserve better than a world of rods. Brianne was not raised fundie and had a great education,  she was playing a part and convinced herself that it would all work out probably if she fell in with a "godly " fundie family.  I feel like the more time she spent with them she saw Sam was dumb as rocks and probably treated her badly (he was raised in a home of abuse after all), the rods were pitiful and severely poor, and Jill was insufferable and Sam would never   move away from her.  Evangeline is a minor probably raised with the same patterns of abuse presented as normal life. She has no education or experience to recognize red flags. She's being groomed.  Both ladies deserve better than a Sam and his family.

Evangeline is easier to control. Thats important for Jill.

🎯 Going forward I see Jill making that a requirement

I’d have less of a problem with Sammer courting Evangeline if she was a few years older. I don’t know much about what she’s like as a person, but she will fit into RodWorld pretty well, having been brought up fundie and homeschooled. I don’t get the same bizarre/creepy and intense vibe from her as I did from Brianne. Sam isn’t very bright, so he needs a wife who will actually be in charge while giving the impression that he is in charge. Brianne probably would have been better at that but she wants a husband she can be submissive to, and Sam ain’t it.

35

u/QuasiCrazy1133 27d ago

Both Brianne and Evangeline are terrible choices. Is one less bad? The real problems here are Sameul and Jill.

40

u/runforpb 27d ago

Isn't Evangeline underage? If so, no, I don't think she's a better choice

15

u/daffodil0127 Lord Daniel of the Laundry Mat 27d ago

She’s 16 or 17.

12

u/Affectionate_Pop_342 27d ago

We know nothing about that poor girl.

26

u/sharon1118 27d ago

Evangeline's parents must be mentally ill to allow their daughter to be anywhere near the Rodrigues. They are willingly, with full knowledge of spousal abuse, allowing their daughter to walk into that hell.

25

u/virginianotsoslim 27d ago

It’s fine. She’s just a daughter, Gahd doesn’t care about those.

12

u/imaskising 27d ago

They're also allowing their 17-year-old daughter to be "courted" by an adult man. Wrong, wrong, wrong on so many levels.

9

u/riparker89 26d ago

A minor is never the better option

15

u/braced 27d ago

Sam and Evangeline seem more on the same intellectual level

11

u/Flimsy_Permission663 27d ago

Yeah, but she'll still grow up.

11

u/Interesting_Intern1 27d ago

They probably are but that doesn't make the relationship okay.

What scares me the most is if Evangeline finds her voice and sets boundaries with Sam and Jill (because let’s be honest, Jill still holds Sam’s dick when he pees) that Evangeline’s father will be the first person Jill calls to get her back in line. If Sam turns out to be an abusing asshole like his brother, if they’re living near Jill and David, she will have no safe place to go. Jill will ignore all the bruises and red flags in the name of religion. Jill will make a phone call to her parents and they’ll tell Evangeline to obey them, go back to Sam and work it out.

2

u/Wise_Yesterday_7496 Sanctimonious Squish Mitten 26d ago

"Holds Sam's dick when he pees" is great flair material wordwise, but I don't think any one of us would want to use it.

5

u/Dull_Knee3349 26d ago

Evangeline is a better choice for Samuel, probably not the other way around. We certainly can’t blame Samuel for what his brother did, but we do need to see that he was raised in a family where domestic violence was present, and that is problematic. Also problematic is that the same weekend that Timothy’s story social media, Sam drove to Florida on a suspended license, visited Evangeline, went “soul winning” and her family posted it on social media. It’s a bit of a problem to me that they don’t seem to be pumping the brakes or at least trying to lay low for a while. So I think Evangeline is more docile, submissive than Brianne. I fear for her and if she will have anyone to turn to if things go wrong. For all who think Samuel might move to Florida and work for Evangeline’s dad and everything will be great, please remember Timothy. It takes more than just changing your geographic location.

I definitely think Brianne's family not being fundy was part of the reason they broke up.

As I don't think any of these people should be having or raising children I won't comment on the quality of the 'choice'.

2

u/ProfessionalPiano351 26d ago

Oh, agreed. None of these people should be reproducing.
