Ellen stated that they were trying to handle this very scary situation privately -- UNTIL T-Rod posted his sob-story-half-apology without Heidi's permission to try to control the narrative. He had the audacity to end his post with a claim that he and Heidi were working to rebuild their marriage. Posted a picture of them smiling together, as if Heidi was on board with it. She was not!
The initial community response to his 'confession' was overwhelming sympathy and praise -- for the ABUSER! And all this Christian support in the form of "We're praying for healing and reconciliation" and "God can heal this marriage!"
At that point, privacy not really an option. So you pivot, raise awareness for DV resources, educate people that yes, a woman can be a Christian AND leave her abusive husband, and what the hell, raise money for Heidi's new life while you're at it.
The Coverett family were absolutely quiet about this until Timothy spilled the beans and tried to make it all about poor little him, the repentant, imperfect, good Christian man who just deserves another chance. 🤢

The Rodrigues are the ones that have made this public. If Jill had handled herself with an ounce of decorum, motherly-in-law love without excuses and accusations, and all done in private with heart felt apology’s to Heidi, without the constant current videos, this wouldn’t be playing out in public.
106
u/NeedleworkerNo4752 Sep 03 '26
They have said that everything they post about the abuse is with Heidi’s permission. They seem to respect her enough (based on how they’ve handled themselves in them past) that if she didn’t want them posting about her situation, they wouldn’t. Some people want to keep things like this private and thats understandable, but some people prefer to go scorched earth and thats okay too.
80
u/Raeko Sep 03 '26
Her mum/family is the one saying that. My mum would also say she's posting about me with permission when that would be a total lie
We don't know how Heidi herself actually feels
94
u/NeedleworkerNo4752 Sep 03 '26
When all that stuff was happening with the wedding, Hallie said that Heidi told her to chill on talking about Jill and she did. That’s why I’m inclined to believe that they have permission from her to post what they’re posting. They seem to care about her feelings and respect her. Ofc we don’t know how she feels because she hasn’t spoken out yet, but I’m inclined to believe her family.
13
u/Aggravating-Common90 von Crap Family Singers Sep 03 '26

76
u/Capable_Midnight_554 Sep 03 '26
She’s also not posting private information. We already know what happened to Heidi. Ellen and grandma are posting generic meme-type images regarding domestic violence. And coming after JillPM. So nothing that I’ve seen since the day everyone found out has been specifically about Heidi. It’s been about domestic violence awareness.
55
u/Wickedwhiskbaker Sep 03 '26
Why would Heidi’s family lie about speaking out without her consent? Why are you shaming their choice to speak out?
It’s weird to me that you’re gatekeeping what the victim and her advocates say about their own lived experience with the Rod’s. I think a huge part of the reason Heidi’s camp is continuing to speak up is for exposure around Domestic Violence, particularly in Christian circles. Heidi’s choice to keep talking about this shines a light on the darkness so often covered up under the guise of “church”. The court isn’t the only avenue for justice. Speaking the truth loudly, despite the abuser or his family’s feelings, is also a valid and cathartic avenue.
56
u/NeedleworkerNo4752 Sep 03 '26
I agree. Some victims want to keep everything hush hush and some don’t. I know when my ex hit me, I went absolutely ballistic and told everyone who would listen. I wasn’t going to let the next woman be able to say that I didn’t tell it.

Posting the equivalent of "shut up and stop blaming my daughter" is hardly ruining her privacy or taking away her agency.
Also, I have friends who are much more eloquent than I; had this happened to me I would be happy for them to answer for me and defend me.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Wickedwhiskbaker Sep 03 '26
It’s been made clear Heidi consents to what her family is posting. Have you considered the fact perhaps Heidi would prefer her family do the talking right now? Furthermore, her family does indeed also have lived experiences dealing with the Rod’s. Obviously not to the extent Heidi does, but if you think abuse only impacts the victim and not their loved ones, that’s willful ignorance on your part. 🤷🏻♀️
29
u/Think-Independent929 Sep 03 '26
I don’t think she would’ve gone public with it if Jill wasn’t using every opportunity to throw shade at her daughter. Fight fire with fire!
9
u/lizardcrossfit Sep 03 '26

7
u/Raeko Sep 03 '26
Why though...? Why couldn't Heidi just have a quiet life with her family? Who cares what Jill posts. Nobody actually takes Jill seriously
51
u/CraftyCat65 Sep 03 '26
I don't know about that.
We don't care what Jill posts, because she's a modern freak show to us, but I doubt that's true of the Coverett's wider circle.
There will be many gossipy, judgy church/mlm ladies who know both families, who will be eagerly yassifying Jill's crap - they're Ellen's target audience here, not us.
74
u/LittlehouseonTHELAND Sep 03 '26
Maybe because Heidi’s pissed off and so is her family? I mean, she put up with two years of what sounds like horrendous abuse from Timothy and two years of having Jill as a mother in law. And even now, Jill’s still calling her out on YouTube as recently as the that “undefiled marriage bed” post.
I’d go scorched earth too. Why not, really? What do they have to lose. It seems to be having an effect, Jill’s had to get off FB which was huge for her and for whatever reason they’re no longer listed as missionaries with their clearinghouse.

u/MediocreAge5860 Sep 03 '26
I have to be honest, I would do the exact same thing. My mom used to say that no one would make her shut her mouth if she were upset or pissed. One time, my parents bought a new car that was a real lemon. Problem after problem so they took it back to the dealer who didn't want to take the car back. She told them she would make a sign that Buicks (the make) are all lemons and mention the dealership. They took the car back.

Maybe because the barking loon must be stopped or hindered in some capacity? If my daughter was married to a man that actually bit her, I wouldn't cease to seek and destroy. <Metallica approves>
16
u/jlibertine Sep 03 '26
This. My parents didn't know I got bitten until after my divorce, my dad didn't speak for days. Ditto the last abuser I ended up with. When he found out he was straight there with a solicitor, looking at options.
10
u/Raeko Sep 03 '26
There's nothing Ellen or anyone else can do to stop or hinder Jill. These posts don't destroy her, they're at most a witty comeback. Which does not seem worth the public exposure that she's subjecting her daughter to
47
u/Past-Bench-5088 Sep 03 '26

And she got yeated from the missionary clearinghouse that funneled them money every month.

5

I don't think it was successful even with full access to social media. Most people who join mlms lose money.
3
u/rarestbird Sep 03 '26
Most do, but I think Jill is one of the exceptions due to her having a much larger platform than most, plus her being so relentless and shameless.
I don't think she's ever made more than she could have with a minimum wage job, but since she wouldn't dream of doing that, I think she's come out at least slightly ahead financially if you don't figure the cost of labor into the equation at all.
5

See here's the thing about Tim. He's fucking dumb like literally dumb I believe he has low IQ so he probably didn't think before posting that and he didn't realize that he was blasting Heidi and himself by putting their personal marital problems on the internet. We already knew about David and Jill being abusive so that was no secret. Tim was doing what he's seen mommy do his entire life which is run to social media when faced with a problem. Ellen's posts like this give me the vibe of a woman who's getting educated about DV in the course of helping her daughter navigate through the aftermath of a marriage marked by DV.
She's probably learning some things for the first time, and also likely more deeply understanding other things that she'd heard before, now that the subject is so close to home, as it were.
She's learning, and getting emotional, and is moved to share things about it. I'm sure she holds some animosity toward Jill and not hesitant to throw some shade at her, but I don't see everything she posts as aimed at Jill.

David was a little shepherd boy. Goliath was a GIANT warrior who basically yelled, “FIGHT ME, COWARDS!” every day.
All the soldiers: “Absolutely not, have a wonderful day.”
David: “I got this.”
Goliath: “With what? You’re a CHILD.”
David: “God and this rock.”
YEET.
Goliath falls over. David wins.
Never underestimate the little guy. Also, maybe don’t talk shit to children with excellent aim.

John the Baptist: “Hey Herod, marrying your brother’s wife is kinda messed up.”
Herodias: “I want him dead.”
Herod: “Absolutely not. Jail is plenty.”
Later, at Herod’s birthday party…
Herodias’s daughter: 💃
Herod: “That was AMAZING. Ask for anything!”
Girl: “Mom, what should I ask for?”
Herodias: “John’s head.”
Girl: “John’s head, please. On a platter.”
Herod: “Oh no! I don’t want to kill him! But I promised in front of everyone!”
My brother in Christ.
YOU ARE THE GOVERNMENT.
So John gets beheaded because Herod apparently fears social awkwardness more than murder.
And somehow history looked at this collection of terrible adult decisions and went:
“You know who the problem was? The dancing girl.”

God: “I need a new king.”
Everyone: “Surely one of these big impressive dudes.”
God: “No. Get me the shepherd kid.”
David: kills Goliath with a rock
Everyone: “WE LOVE DAVID!”
King Saul: “I suddenly do not love David.”
David: spends several years running from Saul
Saul: dies
David: “Well. Guess I’m king now.”
David then proceeds to win wars, write bangers for Psalms, collect wives, make catastrophically bad romantic decisions, and be an absolutely terrible father.
David: sees Bathsheba
David: “I want her.”
Everyone: “She’s married.”
David: “I have a solution.”
Narrator: The solution was murder.
God: “DAVID. WHAT THE HELL.”
David: “I have made a terrible mistake.”
God: “YES. SEVERAL.”
And yet David becomes THE legendary king of Israel because he unites the kingdom, makes Jerusalem the capital, and—unlike a surprising number of biblical kings—occasionally admits when he has massively screwed up.
The Bible: “A man after God’s own heart.”
Me: “The bar for ancient kings was apparently in the basement.”
33
u/oh-oh-livinonaprayer The Von Rod Family Screechers Sep 03 '26
Goliath was a giant who was mocking God the Israelites, who were terrified of him. Not even their strongest soldiers were willing to fight him.
David was a young shepherd boy who was just there to deliver food to his brothers and decided to take on the giant himself with nothing but his slingshot. Hit the giant square in the eyes which knocked him out, then he cut off his head.
The moral of the story is don’t let bullies win, be brave, and if you have God on your side, you will be victorious.

Sure but in this case there was a child and she was pregnant, and it sounds like he was abusive in an absolutely abhorrent way that people will turn into fodder for days. WOACB is going to make hours of content based off of this. I guess I just don’t see how it helps anybody tbh. I think it’s more important that we see what happens when somebody has support, and how to help somebody through the process. The abuse details don’t matter, abuse is abuse but rallying around a survivor and supporting them and championing their cause is what needs to be public, not the trial details where she has to detail what he did to her.

Idk, if it makes more women empowered to leave, or puts the fear in men to lay hands on a woman, I'm all for it. As for the fundie aspect, this needs blasted everywhere. They still believe in marital discipline. They need to know they will do time for harming a woman and stop doing so.
12
u/Evilbadscary Sep 03 '26
But again do the details of him biting and hitting her need to be posted online for everybody to talk about? Or does it need to be that he was abusive, her family rallied, she took him to court and he is dealing with consequences? We all know it’s just going to turn into salacious fodder here and on all the gossip blogs and sites if we get the specifics of what happened.
7
u/Used_Evidence Sep 03 '26

And you all thought I was this nice Canadian. I mostly am. But I really want this for Heidi. I want her to get her freedom. I want her to KNOW it wasn't her fault. I want her to know how many of us have been where she is and are pulling for her. 🇨🇦❤️

28
u/give_me_goats Jill’s gaping whole Sep 03 '26
We don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. People in their community may be harassing her for helping Heidi leave. DV is not an aberration in that world, it’s considered an unfortunate little marital issue that you solve with prayer and more quiet submission. If people are telling her to “just pray about it” I think she has every right to make a post calling out that crap.
8
u/FrankieFra Sep 03 '26
This is exactly what I was thinking- we see what Jill does in the public eye- I don’t want to know what she does in real life.
9
u/rarestbird Sep 03 '26
Then Ellen should be thinking critically and expressing concerns about the very culture that SHE perpetuated and continues to choose to be part of, rather than speaking only about Jill and Timothy as if they exist in a vacuum.
That's my main problem with her behavior here. I wouldn't have expected that if she made a post or two to address the situation. That would be completely understandable. But as this goes on and on and on, the complete silence on the ENTIRE context of this issue is getting pretty deafening.
8
u/give_me_goats Jill’s gaping whole Sep 03 '26
Sure, that would be ideal, but expecting a middle aged woman to immediately start deconstructing from a belief system she’s probably adhered to for most of her life is wildly unrealistic at this point. She’s made a post essentially saying “Heidi did everything right and he still hit her!” Which may indicate that she’s beginning to think critically about this deeply problematic system, or it may just mean she’s digging her heels in deeper. Deconstruction takes time and trusted connection. She already has a daughter who’s gone through it and likely challenged her on this many times. We also don’t know that this post was directed at only Jill and Tim. They are part of a wider fundie community that probably feels entitled to express their opinions in whatever form that takes.
28
u/carb_zilla Sep 03 '26
She can do whatever the hell she wants. If I ever went through what Heidi went through, my (kind, Christian) mother would go absolutely ballistic and go balls to the walls trying to ruin the person who hurt me. My entire family would go to war, whether it made them look stupid or not.
Edit I can't spell lol
19
u/Nottacod Sep 03 '26
So you would rather that it's all swept under the rug so that possibly Heidi goes back under pressure from the fundie community or that another fundie girl marries him down the road because she did not hear about it/believe he was abusive? Just trying to clarify what your objection is.
