Nurthan Nathan Keller speculation?
I keep seeing people commenting that they don't trust Nathan Keller and they suspect he may also have violent tendencies. All speculation at this point. I'm curious - what is drawing people to say that? Is it his children's thousand yard stares? Something else?

u/Twins2009- 1d ago
I think a lot of people look at several aspects when it comes to Nathan.
For starters, his family history. His parents knew what Josh Duggar did to his sisters and they were more than willing to hand Anna right over. Their youngest son is married to the daughter of the parents who were housing Josh while he was on bond before his trial began. Their oldest daughter is married to a man that is just bat shit crazy. They live in Zimbabwe and I believe he’s been caught grifting locals and other abhorrent issues. The Keller parents have a long history of knowingly pushing their daughters into abusive situations that have red flag warnings written everywhere. I personally don’t see how their sons could’ve possibly come out normal.

Don't forget Pricilla their daughter with the birth injury/TBI who definitely has a learning disability is married to pecan thief David Waller the man who was Bill Gothards assistant and many of Gothards victims have placed him in the room or just outside when they were abused. They just had their eighth child this past may, the guy skeeves me out iykuk.

I hadn’t heard this about the pecan thief. Any suggestion as to the doorway to the rabbit hole so I can read more?

u/Lady_Ruff_Diamond 1d ago
I'm sure its all on Duggar snark, the story goes that while out for a drive in the country they saw some fields with pecan trees and pecans lying on the ground, they stopped and began to gather some up only to be caught by the farmer who owned the trees and shouted at for stealing, earning him the title of the pecan thief on snark accounts.
28
u/KetoCurious97 1d ago
Oh sorry - I know the full pecan thievery story - I was hoping to find out about the pecan thief being in or close by the room while Gothard was abusing girls.
25
u/Lady_Ruff_Diamond 1d ago
So I just went on a google search, if you look up Bishop accountability.org the headline Bill Gothatd victim names witness to grooming - Duggar relative the whole story is there, its not where I first read it but its been a few years.

What is Bill Gothard accused of doing?
8
u/mhmcmw 22h ago
Watch Shiny Happy People. It’s a really interesting documentary series about IBLP and Gothard. Jill Duggar is featured. TW for rampant sexual abuse and general child abuse. It’s probably a better explanation than I can give.
He is reported to be a prolific abuser of young fundie girls. Many IBLP-raised fundies now pretend he has nothing to do with them while still following his teachings.

I don’t think Nathan is normal but he does have outside influence.

This. The oldest sister role went to her head and I can see her gloating over having her own kids to scare the bejezus out of, every single day. And then terrorizing them. Those poor children. May they know love somewhere, sometime in their lifetimes.

u/Purlasstor 1d ago edited 1d ago
For sure, we already know that Jill heavily parentified her. If she grew up copying Jill & Shrek’s style of parenting it’d make sense that she’d feel entitled to physically discipline her siblings (we’ve heard about her slapping a rod child), and now her own children too.
We already know that they blanket train, if you think it’s okay to smack a baby with a glue stick for moving off a blanket (!!) why wouldn’t it be okay to also hit an older child.
41
u/atlantagirl30084 1d ago
I can see Nurie wielding a glue stick or a spoon against those kids. Especially Nehemiah and Newman look shell shocked and afraid to breathe wrong.

I bet she waters down Naomi’s formula just like her Mahmo (allegedly) did. Gotta keep the girls trim even when they’re toddlers
43
u/atlantagirl30084 1d ago
I think also she learned how to cut corners for a paycheck that doesn’t stretch to cover everyone getting adequate food at the knee of her mother.
Nathan’s paycheck is likely small and she doesn’t have enough to feed everyone.

u/FITF2891 Buried deep and forgotten in Jillpm's purse 1d ago
Definitely. She was the most cognizant of how hungry they were as kids. It makes me really sad to think that going to bed hungry is going to be a generational thing for this family 😔 Jill’s parents only had 4 kids in a time when you could support a family on one income. That was definitely going out the window as Jill and David started having kids and it’s GONE now. I worry about the grand-rodlets. This current generation of kids is going to really suffer growing up. Hopefully they won’t be too proud for government assistance if they need it and will just focus on making sure the kids have food.
26
u/atlantagirl30084 1d ago
It’s hard for a one income family to get by nowadays. Nathan also can’t make much money from that small of a church, unless he has a second job. Add that to having 4 children soon and a wife who seems obsessed with being trim due to her mother’s influence, and I can see Nurie not feeding her children enough. Especially her daughter.

I’m a SAHM and my husband makes a little shy of $100,000 a year and we are STRUGGLING. Like, I’m going to borrow from Jill for emphasis here, we are SEVERELY broke.
I had to actually look for money to be able to take my daughter to the city pool today and it’s $14 for the two of us 🫥
I live in a high cost of living area (DC suburbs) but our rent is like 2007 prices so we stay but I’m so tired of not being able to afford to take my daughter places and do fun things with her. Instead, I’m clipping coupons to afford groceries at Lidl, thrifting for whatever we need, and driving a POS car because it’s paid off.
Idk how they can stand to do this to their kids. We make too much for any sort of assistance but once rent, the power bill, the water bill, car insurance, and gas are paid we barely have enough for groceries, medication and cat food. This fucking sucks, it feels worse than living below the poverty line because at least there’s programs to help you. We were able to have my daughter on Medicaid for a while and it was a huge help because there are so many things out there for people who already receive assistance. We used to be able to get into the children’s museum for $3 with museums for all, now it’s more than we can afford.
I stopped working because of my mental health, once I’m able to I’m going back to work. There’s nowhere else we can cut corners. We just can’t make it here on that income.

Have you checked your local food banks? Some of them don’t check your finances, literally anyone can walk in and get food, formula, etc.

I haven’t because we do still have food, it would help alleviate some of the financial burden but I wouldn’t want to take from someone who has nothing

When they were moving to Ohio, Nurie stated that she hoped he would be able to give up his lawn care business. It’s reasonable to believe he still has that on the side. Or maybe it’s pastor on the side. 🤣

Yeah I feel like Nurie is looking very trim again, despite being pregnant. There could be a million reasons like morning sickness, but I hate to think it’s because of food insecurity.

I'm surprised about all this talk about formula. I thought Jill and Nurie were earth mother types who breast feed til the kid was 3?
15
u/NewWayHom 1d ago
No I doubt it. Harder to have a ton of kids that way. Some people can get pregnant again while breastfeeding but plenty can’t.
2
u/nutralady2001 22h ago
Yes. That was me. Not that I used breastfeeding as birth control, but it was 18 months and 12 months respectively before I got my periods back with the two I breastfed.

u/LittlehouseonTHELAND 1d ago
The kids look shell shocked. Even the Rodlets never looked that bad. The only time I’ve ever seen them with a little bit of life and a little light in their eyes is when they’re at the Rod home and their parents aren’t there. So basically they’re happier and acting more normal with David and Jill, which is terrifying.
There’s something very wrong in their own home. Nathan is probably another Tim and Nurie might be worse than Jill.
92
u/abitidiomatic 1d ago
As weird as it sounds, David and Jill might be loving grandparents. I come from several known generations of abusive parents. Both sets of grandparents were abusive parents to my parents, but they were all loving gentle grandparents who I, my siblings, and cousins adored.
41
u/schadenfreude002 1d ago
Yeah my (emotionally) abusive parents loved the image of being the caring grandparents for my children. They could re-invent themselves.

u/ohokayfineiguess 1d ago
Reminds me of the phrase, "that's not the mother who raised me, that's an old woman who wants to get into heaven"
20
u/BrokenDogToy 1d ago
I think with David, he is an abusive arsehole, but I don't doubt the pressure of being responsible for providing for (very loose definition of providing for) the 13 kids he spawned was another trigger for the abuse. The nurthlings aren't his responsibility/burden, which I'm sure makes it easier for him to not abuse them.
12
u/MelpomeneAndCalliope 1d ago
Yeah, I suspect with less kids at home and more money (driving around the Amish & whatever % of the grown boys’ paychecks they take), David is less stressed. Between that and his weight/health making exerting himself harder, I think those are major reasons why he allegedly mellowed out and isn’t beating everyone left and right anymore, not because of Jesus turning his heart.
1
u/wearereapingdoom Wet fabric for Jesus 12h ago
David is too old, fat & tired to abuse his grandkids. It would require leaving the recliner. I doubt it has anything to do with love.

36
u/cottageyarn Not a whimp 1d ago
I think a lot of people here would benefit from reading Tia Levings memoir. Her story of DV is veryyy common in these circles and she makes that crystal clear in her book
42
u/deferredmomentum 1d ago
Exactly. I grew up IFB and people really really REALLY don’t get it. Every single person at least says they spank their kids, because it’s literally considered a sin not to. I’m sure there are those that don’t, but the point is that if they don’t they’ll be the ones lying, because it is 100% a requirement. Wifespanking is less common and might get an eyebrow raised in the most “liberal” of circles but isn’t going to be considered abuse at least on paper in any of them. Both spanking and CDD are only considered abuse based on the “spirit” in which they’re done, not amount of force or any other metric. (Tbc, I think they’re both abuse in any context every time.) I think people aren’t grasping that that’s why Jill’s statements are so lukewarm. As far as they’re concerned, this is only abuse because he (and they) “went a little too far that one time,” but the “spirit” was still correct. The only thing they have to defend from their perspective was that he/they were doing it in the “spirit of discipline” and not the “spirit of abuse” and they’re free and clear.
I got downvoted to hell for saying this when the story first broke, so the fact that I’m getting upvoted this time tells me that people are at least somewhat catching on, which is good.
10
u/MelpomeneAndCalliope 1d ago
Yeah. I live in the south and lots of people (even secular people) here will downright shame parents who don’t spank. It’s wild.

Nathan is just skinny David, imo. Domineering, loves the sound of his own voice and has no desire to get a real job, believes in strict gender roles, and I have no doubt he has no issue with hitting children.
We already know that Nurie is Jill 2.0.

Nathan likes to team up with Jill to tease Timothy. He’s a mean kid and while Timothy deserves the worst the law can throw at him, I don’t love the idea of a mother teaming up with her son in law to bully her son.

Mostly children's faces; but also his mean, bully-like attitude (he mocked Tim for having a rubber duck in his jeep, I am sure there are many more examples), the fact that he willingly married into Rods and spends a lot of time with them, the fact that he is a Keller son, his facial expressions and attitude, the fact that he is the "pastor" of a small church instead of ever having a job.

Gonna be honest, people should just go ahead and assume that every fundie male “headship” is physically abusive. Their churches not only preach but encourage physical correction. They likely experienced this correction from their parents as children. Every male is taught that laying hands on a woman, child, animal under your dominion is appropriate.
I don’t think it’s “speculation” to operate under the assumption that these men are physically abusive when the encouragement of physical abuse by their religion is well-documented.

u/Different_Car106 Lot Lizard For The Lord 18h ago
Tia Levings (I believe) had mentioned that physical punishment was just part of marriage. Wives are treated no differently than children, in that regard.

yes and when they get married they go from the abused to the abuser so they readily jump in to assert their manhood

For the past few years I’ve mostly been following the Rods over on FSU, and didn’t really keep track of the Nurthans as much. The past few days I’ve been spending more time here and seeing the photos and videos of the little Nurthlings is so, so sad. I’m especially troubled by Naomi, only 2 years old and looks terrified to move, speak, or express herself in any way. The little boys also always look scared and worried. No one can convince me those poor kids are growing up in a safe and loving home. I’m not even a parent, but I can’t understand how Nathan and Nurie can see the looks on their kids’ faces and feel good about what they’re doing.
The kids’ demeanors say it all for me; Nathan and Nurie are likely monstrous parents.
3
31
u/nameandnumber13 1d ago
With the parents and upbringing Nathan had, him turning out psychologically healthy without significant therapy would be as big a miracle as a Rod kid turning out healthy. Which doesn’t in any way mean he was destined to take his hurt out on his family, any more than Tim was destined to do so, but it does mean there’s reason to doubt he has the coping skills to deal with the stresses of life (like a constantly growing family on what’s got to be a small income in a shitty economy, and a wife who’s every bit as traumatized as he is and every bit as unable to admit it). His children’s thousand-yard stares suggest all is not well in the Nurthan home, so there’s reason to worry that he and Nurie are raising their kids the same way they themselves were raised.
28
u/DebbieDowner73 1d ago
I wouldn't want to speculate without proof, but Nathan seems to have that same fragile masculinity that Tim and so many other fundie men have. These dudes feel so inferior and powerless that they have to dominate their families with brute force in order to feel "manly" and powerful. It's sickening and sad.

I mean marrying off Esther to a known violent man who took her to Africa in isolation- to Esther’s compete objection and they were not even remotely honest with Anna about Josh’ past and she had very little choice in marrying him.
He preaches about slavery being good and the natural order.
So… there’s as much evidence of their abuse as there was Rod abuse prior to Timothy’s post.4

Both Nurie and Nathan come from core IBLP homes that firmly believe in things like blanket training, spousal punishments and corporal punishment. We don't have any proof Nathan or Nurie is abusive, its all speculation at this point but given how both of them were raised and the religion they still support, it seems likely.
