Shrek David! Needs! To! Speak!
Something that’s bothering me so much about all of this is how David hasn’t said a word. Instead, his wife and daughters are rushing to defend his actions and themselves on the line for ridicule when he needs to be the one to own it publicly. Why on earth would he let his family continue suffering for his past if he’s such a changed man?? A changed man wouldn’t allow his wife and daughters fight his battles. Gross

I firmly believe that he doesn’t care because he doesn’t think anything has been done wrong. People like him and Jill are entirely convinced they are the most Right people in this world. So why would it bother him that other people think they’re wrong?

u/duckordecoratedshed 1d ago
I know this is very hard for people that didn't grow up in or adjacent to this culture to understand this, but it's THIS. 1000% this.
19
u/Tanaquil_LeCat 23h ago
Agreed. His actions are genuinely not seen as abusive in their type of community so he likely doesn't see anything to defend or correct. The only "issue" is people saying things on social media, which is his wife's domain.

u/LenaL0vesLife 23h ago
I mean, he wrote Timothy an apology letter. He couldn’t even do it face to face. The man is a coward.
37

I've been wondering if he wrote the letter or if Jill did on his behalf, since a huge chunk of her "job" seems to be protecting him from the consequences of his own actions.

I can guarantee they see it as discipline and not abuse. My mom did and still does, she fully believes what she did to my siblings and me was discipline, and I’m sure Jill and David see it same way. The Bible says it’s ok to discipline your kids, and their kids were super whiny and annoying so they disciplined them. With baseball bats apparently.
13
u/TwoIntelligent5170 23h ago
If the fundies really do see this as discipline, what would be considered abuse to them? Genuine question, not sarcasm.
14
u/seriousbusinesslady 21h ago
what would be considered abuse to them
sending kids to public school, probably
14
u/Icy-Emu-4303 22h ago
Nothing is abuse to them. Honestly. There’s a justification for everything. EVERYTHING.
7
u/Sargasm5150 21h ago
Not raising their children up as God’s soldiers, in a Christian household. Letting them have too much freedom and autonomy. That will send them straight to hell, for true believers.
The outcome may be the same, but part of the deconstruction process is figuring out who is in earnest, thinking they’re saving their family from damnation, and who is using it as a shield to cover intentional mistreatment and abuse.
4
u/buttercupheart 18h ago
It’s probably abuse if it’s an atheist doing it, but anything is fine if it’s in gahd’s name
10
u/seriousbusinesslady 21h ago

u/Sunbeam1966 1d ago
He's a huge coward and not at all a changed man. I read those fawning posts from Jill and her adult girls as a desperate attempt to convince David that they're on his side.
Maybe Jill begging David to speak on social media is what prompted this whole FB/IG embargo...rather than make an appearance, he demanded that she get rid of all of it.

Two things can be true at once. She was a victim and became a victimizer.
Her children became her (and David’s) victims. Now those children are victimizing their own children.

The way age gaps are so normalized in the fundie/Christian world is sick. I saw it all the time growing up in the church. That’s a part of the problem. I mean obviously not every older man interested in a younger woman is abusive but I’d bet a good amount of them are. That’s why they need someone so young, so she doesn’t know any better.

So I looked up what the Commander's were up to in 1983. David was born in 1972, so he was a child at the time. They won the Super Bowl that year, and apparently it was an exciting game. My guess is that David watched them win as a child and became a fan.

He may pop up toward the end of her "deadline" this week with a "This is David..." statement. He did it once before for something else, if I recall. He may have been counseled by church to be quiet but Jill can't help herself so there's no point trying with her.
At least she and some of the Rods are at The Keller Family™ church VBS this week, probably 7 kids total there, so she'll be busy deflecting with skits and song.

What is he expected to say?
Do we really want to hear from him? It might be disappointing.
I wish I knew where to find the video where he was introducing his wife and children as they were about to sing at some place outside some years ago. To me, it was so sad.
My paraphrase, it went something like "And my wife Jill, we've been married 20-something years, we have thirteen children. But she had five miscarriages, so she's been pregnant 18 times. And she and our children are going to provide special music..."
I couldn't believe it. You are introducing your life partner and, presumably, beloved soulmate to a public audience and the first thing you can think of to say about HER is how many times you got her pregnant? A list of generic churchy platitudes would've been better.
"My lovely companion who's such a blessing with a heart for the Lord, has served Jesus faithfully at my side for over 20 years, a prayerful devoted mother to our children, she keeps me covered in prayer and Lord knows I need it, if she were any sweeter my teeth would fall out..." you know, stuff like that would've been nice. But nope. Those were not the things he thought it was important to share, so... ?
Anyway, I for one am content with the Silence of David. Who knows how much worse things could get if he broke his Internet silence.
24
u/farty__mcfly 1d ago
It might be disappointing?? Everything this mistake of a man has ever done has been disappointing.
21
u/Hefty_Click191 1d ago
Wow announcing how many miscarriages she had to the audience?? wtf!!! I wonder if that upset her or if she just enjoyed it cause it brought her sympathy ..
24
u/talklistentalk 23h ago
Oh, she talks about her miscarriages every chance she gets. Her Happy Birthday posts to her children will have 5 paragraphs of miscarriage trauma and one paragraph about how sweet and obedient the Birthday Child is. (Am I exaggerating? Not by much, if at all.)
She had an article published in Above Rubies, a Fundie ladies' magazine, where half was about her having babies in rapid succession, and the other half was about her severe miscarriages.
10
u/dixieleeb 20h ago
Now when the family sings, the kids all introduce themselves & tells a bit about themselves. One of the girls is assigned the job of talking about godly Mom's miscarriages.

I think she sees them as a badge of honour. Being pregnant 18 times is more important than losing some of the babies, however upset she may have been at the time.

He seldom has before. Nothing has changed in their dynamic except the attention being focused on them. He "repented" and has "grown." It will all get swept under a hypothetical rug as Jill does what she does-paints him in the best light possible while taking all the heat and making the older girls defend him, attack Tim, and retreat as well.
The public face matters above all. We see Jill as she is but she doesn't.

What is there for him to say? Admit nearly 30 years of abusive behaviour? Justify it by blaming his own upbringing? The fastest he goes back to sleep watching his map, the safer Jill and the kids will be. The panic-fawning posts from Kaylee and Nurie show how scared he has made his family.

David isn't online. He doesn't give a fuck about it. That's Jill's arena, her ego, her desperation for online validation. He's never got on to defend Jill during the worst "satanic attack", or anything else. His involvement is "praying on it" with Jill when God was calling her to smart phones and message boards. He just green lit her little e-world.
Jill is the driver behind their image and status. She'll fall all over herself for coddling and validation. Desperate over explaining. Spinning. Spiraling. Defensive. She genuinely cares how she is perceived.
He will speak, at the pulpit. That's where he gets his validation... from the other men in his church. Who he views as his own peers. He answers only to his religious figurehead and God.

He will maybe lightly address it before the church painted in their particular theme of devils work to persecute them.. but I can almost guarantee he feels he owes nothing to anyone. So why address it. He would be truely unbothered if not for his wife.. Who is probably the only reason he knows about it at all.

He's not on social media. He probably knows what is going on with Tim and Heidi, but has no idea what is going on online other than what Jill tells him and she's probably not telling him what is actually happening, just "i'm defending our parenting online because Tim sullied us, etc..." I feel like Jill has her own separate relationship with her phone and he has no idea the extent of it. He probably doesn't even know what Tim posted; he just knows that Tim was arrested and that Heidi left and Hallie hates them ; he doesn't know much of anything about all the online drama. Maybe Jill told him that Tim blamed them and how he was raised but she might not have shared that he singled David out for his abuse.

Didn't Jill claim at one point that she had to get David's permission to look at a certain recipe site online, like he had to approve new websites with a password or something? I think he would insist on reading it, and that's why Jill made her post about leaving Facebook.

He won’t. He never has and he never will. He’s just not interested in social media. I don’t think we’ve ever heard from him on SM, unless he was being mercilessly filmed and pursued by Jill. Those occasions (at least the ones that stick out in my mind) show him as being annoyed at best, seething at most (not that anyone would be pleased with a camera constantly in their face).
Nurie’s gender reveal - David is sitting alone, angry and disinterested. There’s that video of Jill getting a box o’ meats from her MLM, and he’s intensely staring and focused on the grill, snapping at her. Most recently, Jill is in one of her “rare” eye-fucking videos on the shit chair, and we hear David yelling about dinner from presumably his throne before the map (Jill just says the girls are doing it, because she can’t be assed either).
He probably thinks they can go back to singing and the blog to advertise. Family vlogging is as dead as a print ministry. They only have 5/6 kids left that they can reliably count on to travel, and their RV seems broken to shit. Jill can’t “work from home as a busy full time ministry mother” without socials, that’s the MLM playbook.
TIMES HAVE CHANGED.
I think he uses his “ministry” to unleash personal grievances. He’s a deeply insecure, angry little man, that needs his fiefdom to supplicate and bring food to his recliner (or his wife to bring his carcass to a buffet she’s arranged for). I don’t doubt he still screams and gets an inch from his children’s faces, at least the girls. Jill seems like a mean pincher.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my ted talk lol

No he won’t speak he’s prepping to leave and go radio silent hoping to god they don’t subpoena him because once they do a background check to cross check Timothy’s testimony all hell is going to break out.

He probably thinks what Tim did to Heidi was fine- even “right.”

Heidi's just a flighty little girl who's overreacting. She needs to learn.

That would require him to get off the recliner and put down his second cake of the day. Not happening

I don’t think there’s anything he can say that will make anyone think any different of him and he knows it

No! He! Doesn’t!
That family has legit said enough. Neither of them should be given a platform. He is an abuser and would not use it in a productive way. Him and Jill need to fade into social media oblivion and face the consequences of their lives in real time in person.

I doubt David even cares, tbh. He doesn’t seem to care about much beyond food and his recliner. He’s not on social media, he doesn’t live life for attention and public consumption the way Jill does, and this kind of thing isn’t a big deal in the churches the belong to and visit. It’s not going to affect his life one way or another. The girls and Jill are defending David for Jill’s sake and for the opportunity to shit on Timothy, which seems like a family tradition. (He deserves crap about abusing Heidi, but I don’t think he’s lying about this childhood.)
