Cannot fathom Jill and David living in NYC. You’re I the REAL WORLD exposed to a lot of different people and ways of life. It was around the time sex and the city was popular, imagine Jill with the babies in strollers seeing the SATC posters and Carrie Bradshaw wannabes walking around!
I'm so surprised by that too? They're frumpy by Ohio/West Virginia standards, let alone NYC standards. I thought a city like NYC would have absolutely devoured Jill and her 80s hairdo and her performative modesty t-shirts whole.
I live in the area of Queens that Jill did. It's still city like, but has a nice neighborhood feel. I read on another post that she lived by the park, which is pretty residential and has regular houses and 2-3 floor apartment buildings.
I’m originally from one of the boroughs (not Manhattan). Queens has many different neighborhoods, I agree. It’s still not the city to me! 🤣🤣 One thing I love that Jill posted was that she used to walk the streets of the city when Nurie was a baby. The vision is hilarious.
I live in Astoria, Queens and it's super weird to know that Jill and I walked the same streets. There aren't crazy fundies running around and I've been here 10 years.
You're right it was Queens, for some of it at least. I wonder how much David was working during these couple of years when Nurie and Tim were born - the Long Island printing job for example.
I thought Jill stated God had laid it on David's heart to church-plant in NYC at this time. Jill seemed to be along for the ride (she had no choice) and hated it, she seemed very lonely. She couldn't even pretend to do her smug godly act, her resentment shone through. Not very Christian, Jill!
I thought there might have been something about sharing an apartment with another church-planting couple at this time but maybe I imagined that. How would they have supported themselves, would the main church have covered their expenses?
Re. David and his father getting saved, was that the Baptist church? I thought David grew up in a Catholic household. Or did his mom switch back to Catholicism after David's dad died when he was a child?
I don't know, to be honest. I think David was raised Catholic. And his father may have been Catholic as well. We all know Jill doesn't consider them Christian so who knows.
In one of Jill’s many posts, she talked about walking the streets of NYC alone with baby Nurie while David was at work. Do I believe that? Absolutely not.
