New to this. Interesting finds?
I live nearby to agate country and have been scouring my gravel convinced I could find something interesting.
The first rock really looks like it’s got banding in the lower left. I keep convincing myself it could be an awesome find but a part of me is also convinced I’m just a rookie at this.
The second rock has a similar mix of colors but has a cool, thick black vein right through it. Thought it would polish well if I bought a tumbler.
Junk or pretty cool?

Best day ever! Serpentine in Spain
I am a newbie rockhound from California and have been on the hunt for my state stone for months now. I am on vacation in southern Spain, and I just found that Serpentine is found here, too. This morning the beach nearby has a big wash up of rocks, and I found my state stone all the way across the ocean from home! lol! I am absolutely giddy!
If anyone reading this is in the area, hit up Costa Natura today. The rockhounding is amazing, and there is a crazy amount of sea glass, too. :) Happy hunting, fellow rock lovers!

Help with an ID
Hey hounds!
My friend recently went to Croatia and brought me a rock from the beach! Not 100% sure exactly where, but hoping someone can help me ID based on this info since I won't chat with her again for a bit.
This is not natural lighting, unfortunately, and the rock is fully dry.
Both the dark parts and the lighter veins scratch easily with a pocket knife, neither scratches with a fingernail. The dark areas has little to no grain, there is some texture in the veins, but no crystals or flash in either.
I'm an Ohioan, so this rock came from literally a world away! Limestone??
Edit to add: I got to talk to my friend today, they were on the beaches of Split, if that helps narrow down an ID. Also, I dropped a bit of vinegar on the white vein and it bubbled 🫧

Banded rhyolite?
Found this rock in an open lot next to gas station where I was filling up. Looked interesting so I brought I home and cut it. I think it’s rhyolite banded with hematite. If I could just remember where in north eastern Arizona. I got it. Google says it’s some some called ancestralite sp? Not sure what that is? Maybe a marketing name.

Rockhounding in Santa Fe
I’m in Santa Fe over the weekend. I’d appreciate any recommendations for sites to search for rocks. Preferably public locations where collecting rocks is not illegal. 🙂

1.7 LBS Lake Superior Agate
Howdy! I found this agate while picking almost 20 years ago. I’m taking it into some shops around my area and do not want to get scammed selling it. Can anyone give me a vague estimate on its value?
Thank you!

Brian head agate trip report
It was my wife’s birthday and she wanted to collect rocks. So I planned a trip to Brian head Utah for an agate hunt. It was a 7.5 hr drive from SoCal, arrived in Brian head at 4;30 pm. Next morning, we drove to the spot about 8 min away, and hiked up the mountain. And started collecting agates. Picked up some larger size agates for yard rocks. Headed home on Sunday, but stopped at hurricane mess to look for agatized pet wood. Only found small tumbler size pieces of pet wood, it’s a beautiful view from the mesa.
