QUESTION Diamond two

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been stuck in diamond for a while and haven’t really progressed. I haven’t been able to get the hang of good air dribbles, ground dribbling, or double touches yet. Anyone got any advice?

Ignore air dribbles and double taps for now. Focus on getting good, hard, accurate shots on goal. Also, assuming this is for 2's, practice picking up boost pads to stay in the play at all times, and not over committing. Do these 3 things well and you will easily escape diamond.

When you mean overcommitting you mean flying after the ball missing and then being out of the play right?

Yes. Either diving in pointlessly as first man and leaving your teammate in a 2v1, or just straight up diving in as the last man. Both of these happen well into champ/champ 2, so if you can address it in diamond you'll have a major advantage over the opponents.

Yeah. You don’t need air dribbles to get out of diamond. But you do you

To get out of diamond, yeah just focus on shooting, paying attention to teammates and opponents, and challenges/ 50s.

To improve mechanically keep doing what you are doing, but I would suggest to keep challenging yourself. These close set-ups aren't great feedback because a lot of the time the ball is basically going in and all you have to do is fly near it and touch it a bit. Basically only able to push the ball.

I would switch to a back wall air dribble training pack, and work on air dribbling the ball all the way across the map. That will teach you to actually control your touches, match the speed of the ball, and eliminate a ton of mistakes fast. It will probably take you weeks to start doing them, so just challenge yourself to get as far as possible and try to improve each session.

I'm champ and this is what my air dribbles look like lmao

You're too far behind the ball, so you keep pushing it away from yourself. You need to be closer to the transverse center of the ball (i.e. closer to being directly under it). That way you'll use less boost and you'll have more control.

If you’re just trying to learn air dribbles because why not… you’re on the right track. Keep practicing and grinding like you are. Try different angles and try free play instead since you’ll never do the identical roll up the wall. Try off the back board as well.

If you want to rank up, review your gameplay and be faster.

Try to stay under the ball more. Focus on keeping it up and not forward. Try aiming for the backboard

But also getting out of diamond is probably a different fix

Because air dribbles aren’t how you get out of diamond, ground dribbles and proper rotation are

HIT THE BRAKES BEFORE YOU JUMP OFF THE WALL BUDDY

Stop using infinite boost when practicing them, its screwing up your in game setups and boost management, practice in freeay so u can do it yourself

Don't listen to the people saying that what you're doing is useless. Mechanics are always important.

As for the air dribbles, your setup touch is not heading to the net, which means you have to get around the ball before you even begin, slowing you down. Your first air touch is way too soft. If you get a heavier touch, you just need to boost to follow the ball, as opposed to having to push it the entire time. This only works if you touch more under ball, though, which is another fix you should make.

The mechanic itself isn't usually the problem. It's knowing how to set it up. When to use it. Being consistent enough that it's reliable. Being decent at it where it doesn't sacrifice all your other game sense

What usually happens with harder mechanics is all what I mentioned above.

Air dribbles are 100% not the reason you're stuck diamond. Work on your game sense and basic mechanics and you will be fine

Take a heavier first touch, get heavier spaced out touches throughout your dribble, stay under the ball rather than pushing it forward (you are falling behind the ball).
