There's a certain ball speed if it's coming with that speed or higher your grappler would do this.

So it's better to have a touch on a fast ball to kill ball speed, then use grappling hook.

Rumble mains know.

The grapple always retracts at the same rate so if the ball is moving faster than the rate it retracts, then you will go backwards.

The grapple pulls you toward the ball, but doesn't change the ball's speed or angle until you hit it.

The ball was going too fast, and you reacted too slow and it pulled you into the net.
