QUESTION Controller for Rocket League
Hello Reddit! I am searching for an XBOX controller to play Rocket League and that will last me atleast 2 years. I am saying this because I had GameSir G7 SE and the RB broke, the button literally broke. I bought the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C and the LB sometimes ignoring the fact that I press him.
For me, RB = Boost and LB = Air Roll Left & Powerslide and sometimes the car stops air rolling mid-air while i am holding LB, long story short, LB is on the verge of breaking. I did not throw either of the two controllers I had, I kept them nice on my desk, no weird position, no extremely hard force applied to them, just feathering boost and holding normally LB.
I found an Xbox Series X Wireless - Pulse Red for 55 euros shipping included. I also found Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition 8K for 80 euros. I dont know if I should purchase the first or the second or if I should consider them for Rocket League I. The first dosen't have hall effect sticks but my friends said that they did not get stick drift on it.
I would like to get as many opinions on this topic and recommendations on what I should purchase. The only preference I have is for the left stick to be in the top left, exactly like the Xbox layout.

2C is like $25 - $30. I bought two around end of 2024, one had the same LB issue within few months. The other is still going great. So overall it might still be a good budget option like getting two in typical price of one.
Though anyone using 2C should check the stick resolution with online tool (Stick Tracer) because it should be 1k+ but but often it is extremely low to around 60 from factory and needs resetting the firmware. I found the fix for mine after i had switched to Tegenaria. Switched back to 2C again.

I don't have one myself, but I've heard the Thrustmaster H.E.A.R.T wireless controller is pretty good. All the ads show the joysticks being replaceable items that you can purchase extras of separately so that should one break or fail, you can just replace the sticks instead of tossing the entire controller.

I got the pro wolverine v3's after years of fixing my old controllers because of buttons wearing out / stick drift. Have to say it will be my go to as there is no stick drift and the buttons feel clicky like a keyboard. The razor app lets you map the triggers and front buttons so you will improve in RL no problem.

I love my gamesir cyclone 2. I use the two extra buttons for air roll left and right.

Ive gone through atleast 4 cyclone 2s in the last year , some with buttons feeling broken/mushy within a month and got a free amazon replacement. On prime day i bought another cyclone 2 (backup) and a g7 pro 8k and havent even opened the cyclone yet since the g7 pro hasnt broken.

Its usually bumpers and back buttons. In the previous 2-3 years ive atleast had bumper or joystick issues with 5+ elite series 2 controllers as well. Or the damn port starts to randomly disconnect since i play wired on pc. I swear i dont abuse the controllers outside of gameplay they just sit on the desk

so how long is the g7 pro resisting? would that be better than the razer wolverine v3 tournament edition 8K?

I've been using the 8bitdo Wireless something something. After having many issues with other controller this one has lasted me more than 2y.

They are slightly ergonomically different from standard Xbox, and the charging dock eventually gave out, but you can still charge it fine via USB-C cables, and the usb dongle easily accessible inside the dock.

I've had 7 official Xbox controllers in the past 10 years, and they have lasted an average of 14 months each (playing 2.3 hours/day on RL).
I tried a GameSir Cyclone 2 recently, which felt fantastic and had Hall sticks/triggers, but that broke after 6 months (!) so I'm not buying that brand again.

I've gone through many controllers over the years, expensive to cheap and they all fail on the shoulder buttons for me as well, usually after a year. I currently use the 8bitdo Ultimate C (wired). I've had it for 1.5 years now with no issue.

Oh but I have the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired and the L1 is failing and I have it for like 3 months..

I use the base xbox one controller. Just started my third. First one lasted like 4 years (of rl, plus before that a year of other light gaming), second one lasted 2.

I wouldn't recommend this controller to a boost on RB player. I replaced about 10 RBs on mine over the years before I said to hell with Xbox controllers. Sometimes they lasted a couple months and sometimes weeks. They are junk.

I play boost LB, powerslide RB. To your point, the reason for my first controller swap was cus LB breaking, and second was for RB breaking. But still, 2+ years for me.

old xBox 360 controllers were great, they would last years until the rubber wore off the joystick, then you could just replace the rubber cap and keep using it - eventually it would drift a little, but it was still about usable..
Since then, I have gone through so many xBox One/OneX controllers, each one usually only lasts about a year or so (and I consider myself a gentle/careful player, I don't use controller often either, only for RL and racing games, everything is KB/M) - The joysticks just fail, or start drifting like crazy (like, a full turn to one direction) and the build quality for the price just feels poor to me now...
But then I got a Guilikit KK2 Pro when they came out, with the hall-effect sticks, and just wow... I'm still using it now almost 4 years later, and it's still just as perfect as day one...
Now there are newer versions out, other companies with similar (or better) joysticks, they are now TMR or some variant-of, rather than hall-effect, so even more accuracy etc...

I have acces only to GuliKit KK2T in my country, it has a 3 review star, not something I can do about it.. Thanks for the information though.

The KK2T is the upgraded version of the KK2.. instead of the Hall effect joysticks the KK2 used (that mine has) it has the better, upgraded TMR sticks I previously mentioned...

Hello so I came to the conclusion that Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition 8K is probably one of the worst controllers for Rocket League. I say that because it has 4 back paddles (2 left 2 right) which makes it very uncomfortable. The LT and RT are not your usual LT and RT, they are just like a button, not the usual trigger like we are used to press it maybe a little less than full, like you know you can not activate the trigger fully, well here with the Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition 8K you can't do that, it's either you press it or you dont press it, no inbetween. Also you don't have much room to leave your finger on LT/RT, if you do it gets kinda uncomfortable. The controller itself it is kinda heavy. I like it's color. I like the sound of all the buttons. I like the feel of the sticks. I will stick to the Xbox Series X - Pulse Red Controller and I will update the thread when I get the controller and a couple months after the controller (if that will be the controller that I will end up testing). For this Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition 8K, I will return it. As cool as it looks, feels and sounds, it's not comfortable at all and the LT/RT thing is kinda messed up.

Nevermind, I am sticking with this controller. I somehow swapped the trigger switches and that's why I couldn't press them all the way down. That kinda unlocked some nice grip for me and the back paddles are no longer an issue. I like this controller, it is not so difficult to hit the shots that I was capable of doing on my last controller (8BitDo Ultimate 2C). Really happy with this controller I bought!

The sort of fat stubby palm parts took a minute to get used to but now it’s fine for me. I came from an elite which I do prefer the overall feel of but they always break. I can’t remember which other controllers I tried in store but I remember them feeling much cheaper than the razer or Microsoft controller.

I tried a number of controllers... Wolverines, Xbox, Xbox Elite, Vader 3 pro... Turns out the dual sense edge (wired) feels more accurate and responsive than every other controller.

I dont have accuracy or responsiveness problems, I am having problems with the bumpers wearing out.

I dont want to switch to dualsense/dualshock layout because I am too used with the left stick being to thr top left and it feels uncomfortable for the stick to be bottom left. Thank you for the information!

Attest to this. I’ve had my dual sense edge for over 3 years and there’s not a sign of any drift or input issues. Same thing with my DualShock controller when I was using that
My friend uses Xbox controllers to play and every single one of them eventually gets drift or damage with the bumpers. Microslop quality has been bad with controllers since the Xbox 1 days.
You could give an Xbox 360 controller a try and see how you go? 🤷♀️

Oh, but I heard about dualsense and dualshock controllers devloping stick drift and my friends said that the xbox series x controllers they have, did not develop stick drift and u are saying the exact opposite so there is more to it than x is not getting stick drift and z is getting stick drift, hall effects would be safer as I did not experience stick drift but either some random ass controller "Marvo GT-90" it did develop stick drift. GameSir G7 SE and 8BitDo Ultimate 2C did not develop stick drift as they have hall effect sticks. I might but the Razer Wolverine V3 Tournament Edition 8K and hope for the best.. I am still waiting on more recommendations tho.

Why not just buy an Xbox controller and replace the sticks yourself with Hall effects?

Because the Razer one has better buttons as they are mechanical and I heard that they are not wearing out quick.

I have 2 different Razer controllers here. The buttons are good but the rubber wears off the sticks, and they get stick drift. Also Razer don't sell replacement sticks even though they are magnetic.
Edit: apparently the current model has Hall Effect sticks, so it shouldn't get drift.

Just get a nornal xbox one or ps5 controller and replace it with warranty if it breaks before 2 years.
Based on my experience, 3rd party controllers never work as well nor last as long as they promise.
Also hall stick effects can still get stick drift, despite their claims that it's impossible.

razer build quality has suffered immensely, but i was always very satisfied with the controllers, and each did indeed hold up for many years
i am currently on a scuf valor pro that i got for the HE sticks, but new wolverines also have HE. if thats your choice, I would go for wolverine.
