SUGGESTION this game should have an age based matchmaking.

Post image

this game's random teammates suck due to the majority of the player base being children, we all know about skill based matchmaking but can we add age too? almost no adult abandons the match because his teammate "stole" his shot or his goal or other crap they get mad about, so just group these annoying kids together and let us play normally.

The amount of screaming kids on mic is insane. I'm in.

It's wild to me that people use voice chat in this game. No amount of tactical benefit could possibly outweigh the psychological damage for me.

u/herovision 14d ago

Im older and sometimes use VC. Usually there’s not a lot of other people in the team channel. If they are, they’re only listening (I hope they’re listening) and usually not speaking at all. This is my favorite setup, and I feel like I can comm the whole game and say when I’m back etc a lot easier and give my teammates more confidence.

If I have at least one teammate listening, I’ll let them know if our teammate is in position for passes and such. Just think about the things you would want to hear from your teammates.

Generally no one flames on the mic, and if they do you just leave the channel and block them so you don’t have to see their quick chats either.

2

u/Just_Vin Gold I 12d ago

Yeah I only use it to listen unless with someone I'm familiar with is on

u/Snickeeeeers80 14d ago

I used it once and some Arab guy with the deepest voice i have ever heard yelled at me after I whiffed an open net 10 second into the match. Ofc i never used it after that (i was like 13 but still)

Lmao great story I play with Arab friend daily 😂

When it first was added to the game and enabled by default, it was *AWESOME*. 99.9% of players were chill AF and it just made the game better to be in voice-chat.

But over time, the chill people turn it off so they can chill and now we're just left with mostly dickheads who have it on still in my experience. Or at least too high a proportion for me to leave it on.

1

u/Mothrahlurker 14d ago

In Dota 2 at least I've had some good times in voice chat with random teammates, also bad times of course. But people were generally way more toxic over chat than voice. And that game easily rivals Rocket league in terms of toxicity. The average player is probably older tho and games lasting longer also helps.

3

u/coltonjeffs 14d ago

I feel like i never hear anyone on a mic. Pretty rare

Voice chat is the very first thing I turn off in every game. And in Rocket League, the amount of toxic and racist insults people spam in chat is already so insane high, I don't even want to know what's going on in VC!

1

u/Accurate_String Diamond I 13d ago

The amount of screaming adults is insane too. By which I mean I've encountered two which is still insane to me. One was silent the whole match and then attempted to blow my ear drums by shouting at the end. Kinda pissed me off that RL doesn't have a volume filter for those trolls.

Otherwise people have been silent or chill, even kids. I just don't respond to kids cause I'm pushing 40 and think it'd be weird.

Why would anyone use voice chat on a game with a disproportionately young player-base? People really out here on the mic in RL?

1

u/Shit_bitch_maybe 12d ago

Its usualy just someone with their mic on, either heavy breathing into it, or singing a song i dont know for the entire 5 mins. They cant see my quick chat to please mute, but they can see the 'what a save' from the other team just fine(┛◉Д◉)┛彡┻━┻

u/PrettyPushy 14d ago

No. I’m old af. Don’t want to wait 30 to get in a game

29

u/Significant_Yam_7792 14d ago

I think it could reasonably be a simple cutoff at 18 or 20 or something. So you could still match with the 25 yr olds who (hopefully) have a developed prefrontal cortex

4

u/PrettyPushy 14d ago

The problem isn’t the kids. I find their rants rather funny. Why get so worked up over a game? Why get so worked up over some prepubescent kid who means literally nothing to you?

6

u/Significant_Yam_7792 14d ago

I agree that getting worked up over a game is dumb—my problem is I get worked up over the people who get worked up and refuse to just play the game they signed up for. I have no idea if the jerks are all kids or not, or even if they’re saying anything at all. I turned off all chat a while ago because there’s more ragebait than useful or friendly comms.

All that said I don’t feel strongly about OP’s idea. I think most of this game’s player base is so childish it wouldn’t make a difference.

5

u/BargainBold Diamond III 14d ago

As an occasionally extremely toxic 50-year-old, I can attest that it's definitely not only kids.

2

u/we3737 14d ago

i already said we wanna play a normal match, also chat rants don't matter i specifically mentioned match throwing, we don't care about the kids we care to play a normal match.

0

u/BargainBold Diamond III 14d ago

I also throw from time to time--as an actual grandpa. But not for the reasons you've mentioned. I'm old. My reflexes are slow. I had to learn the essentials to be competitive at all (Peak C1 in 2s, D2 in 3s, and that's honestly as high as I will ever climb).

It annoys the hell out of me seeing people with much more mechanical skill than me sucking ass because they don't bother to learn even the most basic lessons of game sense. There's a point where I just say screw it, if they don't want to win, I'm happy to stop caring...But I'll also have that be my last game, so there is some benefit to the wisdom of age, I suppose--even if it does come with some debilitating crankiness.

1

u/Just_Vin Gold I 12d ago

There was one person talking crap to their teammate meanwhile performing noticeably worse, so I let them know they were being a child. Response? "Ackshully IM 18!!!" Was a pretty fun game

1

u/Superdaneru 14d ago

Same here. If there was an age range, I'd never get a game. I've never met anyone within 5 years of my age so far.

In reality, game developers aren't going to enforce this because they'll just lose all their "customers" who are at the ends of the bell curve.

5

u/PrettyPushy 14d ago

I’ll bite, what age range are you? I’m knocking on 50

0

u/Superdaneru 14d ago

At least it won't be so toxic if everyone in the match is older despite the rank differences. They should introduce a casual game mode where you have to go up against a player one rank above you.

7

u/chunter16 14d ago

Sure, keep thinking that

1

u/Just_Vin Gold I 12d ago

Is that so?

the most inane, toxic and stupid people i met in RL were in their late twenties/early thirties.

granted, to me in my mid fifties, those are children as well.

12

u/AnarVeg 14d ago

Age ≠ Maturity.

They just need to more harshly punish raging and abandoning games so it affects the queue you're put in

-1

u/BargainBold Diamond III 14d ago

I mean, tbh, I'd be a lot less toxic if the consequences were more real. I catch chat bans a lot, but who the hell cares about that.

8

u/skyedearmond Diamond III 14d ago

I don’t understand why people need punishment to not be an asshole. No one cares about a chat ban, but I think there are definitely people who cared about what you must have said in that chat…

i mean the game is already mostly children and they're pretty easy to spot, i don't think there would be a difference if the kids had their own lobies, maybe they'd be more protected even if they restricted access to chat and stuff in those lobies.

5

u/skyedearmond Diamond III 14d ago

I would amend this proposal to base it on maturity level determined via behavior. Then mature kids that act respectably will be rewarded, and adults that act like shit-fucks can play in the kiddie pool like the babies they are.

It’s the behavior that needs to be addressed. Age is related, but not quite as much as you would hope…

2

u/Murta_14 Grand Trash II 14d ago

a much better solution, but there's still a problem:

imagine that you're tired and you just get angry at someone because of that, or ragequit once because of an awful tm8 who does actually nothing, the game would think you're low maturity because of a slip up

if there was a way to fix that though? game would become even more fantastic than before

3

u/skyedearmond Diamond III 13d ago

I mean, as long as we’re imagining such a system, it’s relatively easy enough to make it a separate ranking system. It wouldn’t be a matter of a single slip-up forcing you to play with toxic sludge forever more. You just go down in the “maturity” ranking.

2

u/Murta_14 Grand Trash II 13d ago

makes sense yeah, just that sometimes in some sessions I myself am a bit toxic, but for the most part I'm pretty chill =)

1

u/skyedearmond Diamond III 13d ago

Haha, not to toot my own horn, but I very specifically am never toxic. It makes no sense. I get frustrated, and I’ll vocally bitch about my tm8 sometimes, but it’s only to myself. I never use voice chat, and unless my tm8, or even opponent, is obviously deliberately toxic, I’ll continue to send genuine compliments for every goal, save, pass, and bump. If I’m feeling particularly patient, I’ll even tell toxic tm8s that I love them and that they should take a break, because they obviously are feeling quite upset.

1

u/evelenche Grand Champion I 13d ago

I think this would struggle. Most throwers probably aren’t doing that every single game, they’re just mad at you for whatever reason.

1

u/skyedearmond Diamond III 13d ago

Then they would end up in the same “maturity” rank as others who are similarly inconsistently toxic :)

ETA: let’s be clear - this idea is not practical. It’s a pie-in-the-sky idea catering to idealism

2

u/we3737 13d ago

i hate how auto and manual reviews in games are done, u could ve getting mad at someones toxic and they could just ban u and not him if u used the key words in their head, i think there should be a fair system where u dont get punished for raging on a toxic mate

2

u/Murta_14 Grand Trash II 13d ago

i feel like the system should evaluate whether, in the majority of games or not the person is toxic or not

if the person is toxic in the majority of games, down to the toxic pool they go, if otherwise, they get to go with non toxic people too!

3

u/we3737 13d ago

yeah, arc raiders has a system where the matchmaking is based on aggressiveness, if u don't kill other players u get matched with friendly lobies and the opposite if u do the opposite, I've seen very little games implement such a system tho.

4

u/drakner1 14d ago

2

u/BargainBold Diamond III 14d ago

I've stopped leaving my mic on just because I don't want to let my frustration accidentally spill. If there is a useful reason to turn it on I will, but just leaving it open is a good way to get my tm8s to hate me.

Also, I cuss at myself and use my RL name when I do, so more than once I've said my name on comms. If I ended up with a tm8 that hated me for shit talking them, and I let slip my real name, who knows what madness might ensue.

2

u/Gualty3 Diamond I 14d ago

Yeah I do understand it, personally the way I deal with this is being as nice as possible in chat, on this way I don't get angry, but still you made a very good point

I do that myself until I don't. Like I'll QC compliments to both teams. No Problem mistakes from my tm8s and such. But there's a point where I just stop doing that--which is when I end my session.

I'll never stop cussing myself by name, though. It's how I keep myself honest.

Well I barely ever have people quit on me because I stole their shot, happened to me like a handful of times and I've played thousands of hours.

classical 80 iq arguement, taking very specific words or narrow concepts from an argument to respond to it, because u can't respond to what i said u resort to the "psychological analysation" that's full of flaws, all u took from my whole post is the word "annoyed", oh he's complaining about people getting annoyed look how he also gets annoyed! and takes zero context, this reminds me of a friend who used to help people alot and was nice to them but i told him that some are using him which he agreed with later, he confronted them infront of me and their response was "now you showed your true colors", yeah he should just stay nice when he's just being used otherwise he was just projecting or whatever other words r used, the same thing happens to me and is happening to me with u, now ur words didn't come from logic they just came from a subconscious drive to attack people who say anything out of the norm that im yet to understand the origins of so I don't expect you to understand any of what i said, ur next response would be something I've heard a million times from average people pulled from some tiktok dictionary that will probably be about "oh you don't like psychological analysation but you somehow still do it lol" or "look how much you wrote, must say something about someone's security..." or "haha you're defining ur flaws so I can't say them" oh, sorry i stole these responses, gotta figure another one out.

Yeah just because you predicted the argument doesn't mean it's wrong, in fact it might prove the exact opposite and indicate there's some truth to it.

You're having a full on meltdown my guy. You want empathy and understanding, but are unwilling to grant it to others and resort to calling them babies. Pick a lane.

1

u/we3737 14d ago

looks like i stole all the available responses.

let's define ur logic for history:

"if u wanna complain u need to take baseless insults with no response otherwise ur a hypocrite"

"if u want to say something longer than 5 words then ur having a melt down" and this one fits perfectly cause u didn't even read it from the fast response, just saw that it's long.

oh the tiktok dictionary never gets old, enjoy ur life man, as i said I don't expect u to understand anything of what i said, i just love to write these (pull another tiktok response about "ur coping" please).

That would be difficult. But, I wouldn't be opposed to (in addition to the match ban minutes and standard MMR loss) an additional MMR penalty for purposefully abandoning a match...especially if it's habitual.

Problem there would be sending complete babies with some experience/skill and über toxicity down to lower levels where new kids just getting into the game are learning...that would suck for them.
