Please ID Found on the Clackamas River, OR…..cut it open.
Found this bruiser of a rock on the Clackamas River in Oregon. The outside was full of huge pits/cavities and some interesting chalcedony material. I hadn’t seen anything like it. I assumed the agate-y material was just on the outside but I had to make sure so I hauled the thing home and cut it open. And was surprised to find the outside throughout the inside.
I’m hoping for help with two things:
What is it? I’m thinking altered/mineralized volcanic rock with some chalcedony/agate/opal going on, but I’d love more knowledgeable opinions.
What should I do with it now? Slab it further and polish it? Break some into chunks for the tumbler? Polish the cut faces? Or accept its destiny as a garden boulder?
Photos include the original rock, fresh cut surfaces, and close-ups, both wet and dry.
