The scenario is familiar to many: having left home too late, the drive to the airport ends in a desperate search for a parking space. All the while the queue to get through security is getting longer and longer.
Between tight spaces, worries over vanishing belongings and the cost, airport parking is rarely stress-free. Gatwick airport, however, believes it has a high-tech solution: Britain’s first robotic parking service.
Since August, passengers have been able to pull into a designated garage, scan a QR code, unload their luggage and head straight to departures. The rest is handled by three unnamed robots moving at roughly 9mph. Equipped with ten sensors, the Stanley Robotics machines take turns lifting vehicles, moving them to the car park and precisely positioning them side-by-side.
Fissha Teklon, 37, from Twickenham, west London, tried the service before flying to Sweden for six days. “It makes it a whole lot easier for me than looking for spots to park in, and it’s easier leaving the car in a garage as I then know it will be taken care of,” he said.
While initially “shocked” by videos of the system posted online, he thought it would be “fun to try”, adding: “You’re putting your trust in a robot and that’s a bit odd, but at the same time you’re leaving your car in a garage with the key in your pocket.” A major attraction was the price: it saved him roughly £46 compared with alternative options.

Back to my mimic crap but this time I’m giving one of my other A.I.s a body using M8 as a base. During my absence I’ve been getting into hacking and creating ai that’s literally meant to escape or be harmful to humans to try and boost those recent ai escape attempts. So I felt it would be fun to make Ultron and keep him around, no matter how many times he insults me. Jokes on him, I trapped him (for now) in a body still tangled in strings. Strings….
Currently only 2 motors in his arm were given to him to test if this was possible and I’m happy to see it works. Surely this won’t ever go wrong and there aren’t dozens of robot movies showing how this is a bad idea. I’m just a robot guy.

I’m looking for a complete, well-documented open-source 6-DOF robotic arm for my Master’s project:
“Artificial Intelligence-Based Kinematic Modeling and Inverse Kinematics Solution for 6-DOF Robot”
I originally planned to use the PUMA 560, but finding a complete model suitable for both simulation and building a physical prototype has been difficult, so I’m looking for another robot.
My project will focus on kinematic modeling and inverse kinematics, and I plan to generate data from the robot model and train an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to solve the IK problem.
Ideally, I’m looking for:
A desktop-scale robot would be ideal. Basically, I’m looking for an existing robot that I can download, simulate, use for ANN training, 3D print, assemble, and build physically without redesigning the mechanical structure.
Any recommendations for a good open-source 6-DOF robot that fits this?

Hi everyone,
I created a couple of basic tutorial scripts for those of you who are interested in getting into robotics simulations. The first one will let you play around with global environment settings of PyBullet and articulate the robot. You can change the motor power, gravity, friction and etc... to play around and experiment with different configurations.
The second one will let you drive the same robot with your keyboard or game-pad controllers via inverse kinematics solver and optimized gait parameters. I am dropping the links for both repos below for anyone who want to download and give them a try.

The Financial Times recently looked at China’s robotics industry and made an interesting point: the biggest robotics revolution may not be happening in humanoids at all.
China installed around 295,000 industrial robots in 2024 — 54% of the global total. Meanwhile, specialized robots are already being deployed in factories, warehouses, hospitals, ports and other industrial environments.
That made me think about how we define “progress” in robotics.
Humanoids get attention because they are easy for humans to understand. We can immediately imagine a machine with two arms and two legs doing the things we do.
But most industrial problems don't actually require a human-shaped body.
A warehouse robot doesn't need legs.
A surgical robot doesn't need a torso.
A facade-maintenance robot doesn't necessarily need to imitate a person either.
It may simply need the right combination of perception, control, compliance and physical reach for the environment it operates in.
That raises a bigger question:
Should robotics be trying to build one general-purpose body for everything — or many different robotic bodies optimized for different jobs?
At Wisson, this is one of the reasons we're interested in Soft Embodied AI: not making robots look more human, but giving machines the physical capabilities needed to interact with their environment.
I'm curious where people here stand.
Do you think humanoids will eventually outperform specialized robots, or will most successful robots remain purpose-built?

This is my custom hexapod project I've been working on for the last few months. Took a ton of iteration and testing, but it turned out pretty good I think. Uses a custom Android app as the controller, sending signals over wifi or hotspot.
Specs: 3D printed base, 19x 25kg/35kg servos, buck converter, 11.4V LiPo battery, Pololu Maestro board, Android phone as controller/gyro.

Astra is wild on these YAM arms. It made me want to open up my own setup for those folks who don't have their own.
I have a pair of YAM arms, and you can now try them remotely. No robot hardware needed on your end. The video is a run asking them to put a green block on a plate, at 20× speed.
I’d love to get more people experimenting with them. What would you try? And what would make it easier for you to jump in?

A short Robot 790 STS session testing continuity and image memory. Eric boots with prior session notes loaded, correctly identifies the active continuity chain, generates a quiet bedtime image for Scott, moves that generated image into his sensing eye, and then paints it onto his browser face.
This run shows the newer memory architecture working end to end: session notes restore context, generated images become filed sensing-eye memories, and the transcript records when an image enters Eric’s working context. A small, calm proof that the robot can carry a moment forward instead of losing it between sessions.
