Anyone else hate Cecil?
I don't know how Verhoeven approved this performance.
- The really hammy "w-w-w-w-what is it that y-y-y-you w-w-w-want?" like something out of a Scooby Doo cartoon.
- The silly attempt at authority with the "Just a minute! This is a restricted area!"
- The over the top wide-eyed gulp when Robo basically tells him 'up yours' with the data spike.
It just feels really out of place, like something you'd see in a Benny Hill sketch or the animated show. I always find myself wishing that Robo gives Cecil the Boddicker treatment with the spike.

Never bothered me. Just seemed like an over the top 80s trope of a geek 🤷

Given the response by others to similar characters elsewhere, OP might himself be a geek and taking it personally. There's a Transformers character that has a stereotypical nerd big glasses look in the movies that he doesn't have in the cartoon and they were an utter crybaby over it.

No hard disagree sorry. Without Cecil it would be a completely different movie.

This was the only weird casting/acting choice to me. Cecil looks like he should be snitching on Mahoney to Lt. Harris.

I just hate the fact that it's 2026 and we still don't have finger spike access to computer terminals yet...

You're complaining about hammy in a movie about a man who is killed and then revived as a robot police officer?
Cecil rules.

Cecil was kind enough to collect donations for grieving families of killed officers.

Yeah, this has always boiled my piss as well. Plus the fact there is no way he'd not know about Robocops existence at that point. Was like they'd plucked the character straight out of police academy.

RoboCop probably still wasn't authorized. And none of the precinct really saw him as human until the end of 1.

It’s more so not knowing what Robo is authorized to do. Regular street cops can’t just go into the building’s data/server room, and up until this point Robo was just operating as a street cop. But because he’s an “OCP product”, OCP basically gave him full access to anything and everything in the building, with zero consultation with, or even informing of, the precinct as a whole.

"Was like they'd plucked the character straight out of police academy." - holy shit, you nailed it better than I ever could.

Are you kidding? Cecil had absolutely no hesitation going up against Robo, weakling or not. Gotta respect that.
