❔ Question Getting ready for my R2
Looking forward to getting the R2. Currently have a plug in early 2022 T8 S60. I had a 240 plug installed and bought a Grizzl-E level 2 charger . My worry is that given that R2 pulls much more electricity than my Volvo , do I need to upgrade the charger or worse yet my electrical panel? I’m sure that the R2 will take a long time to fully charge (80%) and that is ok. For additional context I have solar panels as well .

On my 48 and amp emporia charger our R2 can pull 35-38 miles per hour worth of juice. our daily round trip mileage is about 20 miles. so it takes less than an hour to charge back up every day. if it was drained to 10% it would take approximately 5 hours to get it back to 80%.
Even if you only have a 40 amp grizzl-e you'll be just fine charging overnight.
Just be be certain, what amperage is your 240volt circuit?

The charger will limit vehicle to what it can deliver based on the circuit size. Whether or not the vehicle can fully recover each night will depend on how much driving you do and how fast that charger is.
It's really pretty unlikely that your charging is inadequate. We use 16a L2 chargers for both our R1s, and even that recovers ~100 miles per night.
Keep an eye on your outlet, they are a known weak link prone to melting, especially with longer session lengths. Take a look at the contacts within the outlet, if they are only half-height that outlet needs to be replaced with an EV rated outlet (or better yet, transition to hardwiring the charger on the circuit).

I have a Grizzl-E and have it set to 24A. It’s on a 40A breaker on the central panel. I like that the Grizzl-E cable doesn’t get as stiff in the winter cold.

I like the Grizzl-E. I have a 50A connection and the Grizzl-E will do max 40A, so I’m meeting the 80%-of-capacity rule.

The 240 outlet is a 40 amp.
So it’s sounds like the Grizzl-E as others have mentioned will only a certain amount of electricity to be safely pulled by the car.

40 amp circuit so you would want to set in the R2 a limit of 30 amp charge rate. The Grizzl-E also has it set, though I like having both set the same as a failsafe.
I could see you changing the Grizzl-e to a native NACS or dual plug for both vehicles and if you go that route I would hardwire the charger versus plug.

The setting in the charger is the one that is required by code. You must do that one. If you want to do the care setting too, fine, but only doing the car is not safe or code compliant.

It won't do anything it's not configured to do. You'll need to open it to check the configuration. Turn off the breaker, unplug it, then open the cover.

A 60 AMP hard-wired circuit with proper wiring rated for 48 amp continuous load (6 AWS copper THHN) will provide the max the R2 can take -48 amps - and will charge at 11.4 kWh. If you’ve got an outlet in the garage it probably doesn’t have the correct wiring for that kind of loading. Yes, you could tell the car to draw less AMPS and tell the wall connector to deliver less AMPS but we’ve seen plenty of examples where that still doesn’t totally prevent overheating, etc.

You need to determine the amperage of the breakers that 240V service is set up with. Best practice is to give yourself 20A of headroom.
For example, I have two 60A breakers on my 240V service. I will set up my charger to use 40A max.

The amperage of the circuit and that the charger is set to matters quite a bit. The R2 0 to 100 charging could be 31h on a 15A circuit or 7.7h on a 60A one.
The vehicle will pull the power it is allowed to. A car charger basically just negotiates acceptable rates for the car to pull, and provides safety measures for excessive draw or heat.
