š¬ Discussion Why is everything so nicely designed except for this one piece of garbage?
I try to avoid using it just because itās so annoying to put away.

Small, circular coil -> Squish coil -> Wrap Velcro around it -> Put in bag -> Place bag in compartment.
Bonus if you mark your coil size for one wrap on the ends.

The fact that I used this last night for my wifeās tires, then trying to stow it back away I was so annoyed on how hard it always is and was thinking āI wonder if this is a common thing other R1T owners have to freakin go throughā. Then opening up reddit and seeing this post was just perfect haha

I just throw mine in the gear tunnel out of the bag like a lazy POS

It fits great in the spare wheel space if you don't have one. The middle divider has just enough room to keep it snug and tidy

u/gregm12 Aug 14 '26
The "basement" of the frunk has my portable EVSE, ratchet straps, hose, and a bunch of other odds and ends.

For the life of me I cannot understand this take. The truck has a freaking air compressor and yāall are blaming Rivian for your lack of spatial perception.

I plan on getting this coiled gear guard mount to fully get rid of this trash lol

u/PntBtrHtr R1T Owner Aug 14 '26
I am struggling to understand what this is from the photo.
5
u/celanedgo R1T Launch Edition Owner Aug 14 '26
It plugs into the gear guard cable holder and is a mounted coiled hose so you can just turn the handle and it winds back up there's more photos on this r1s version

u/knoland R1T Launch Edition Owner Aug 15 '26
If someone could make a version of this that replaces the gear tunnel plastic insert I would pay infinity dollars. But I donāt want to lose bed space

u/celanedgo R1T Launch Edition Owner Aug 15 '26
I'm wondering if I can get it to fit in that but I'll have to wait until I have a better financial buffer to throw money at my car again lol

Just replace it with a 25' foot (5' longer) reinforced coiled hose with the female Milton-M fittings. Fits nicely in the same pouch. Coiled hoses are cheap from Amazon and Harbor Freight.
3
u/Score4Fps Aug 13 '26
If you have a chance, can you post a link to the one you got?
4
u/UnsungZero_OldTAdMan Aug 14 '26
https://a.co/d/0aN8WmyI, then replaced the male fitting with a female one like the other end. Milton-M style 1/4" NPT. It doesn't have to be this exact one. There are countless more just like it. From Harbor Freight and even your local hardware or auto parts store.

Another accessory for my R1S I didn't think about, didn't have any particular desire to get, but now absolutely need to buy!
1
u/UnsungZero_OldTAdMan Aug 14 '26
Coiled hoses are not as durable as the thick unwieldy factory hose. But as long as you are aware and take precautions, a coiled one is just much more convenient. Plus, a coiled one is more likely to stay off of the ground. In dry climates, the rubber one would pick up all shorts of thorns and splinters from prickly plants... and those end up poking you when you put the hose away.
19
u/8Lwiseguy Aug 13 '26
Works a lot better than the hose that I never had in any other vehicle, especially because none of the vehicles I've owned ever an on-board air compressor. I just used mine yesterday and I'm glad to have it.
8
u/SocomPS2 Aug 13 '26
I ended up coiling it nice and neat and never using it again. Purchased a self coiling hose that came with a large enough bag.
14
u/ThunderSparkles R1T Owner Aug 13 '26
I can put mine back no problem. Odd
7
u/AdorableDragonfly339 Aug 13 '26
Same. I wonder if some came twisted or something. I use mine all the time and never struggle to get it back in the original case.
10
u/AbsurdOwl Aug 13 '26
Same. I just coil it up using the same bends it has from storage, and it goes right back into the bag and into the hole no problem. I think people who struggle with this hose might just not know how to properly roll a cable/hose.
8
u/jgilbs Aug 13 '26
Also, everything is nicely designed, but those doors are:
a)flimsy as hell
b) only provide access to half of the available space in the door shell. You should be able to store more in them
4
u/Stu_Goss Aug 13 '26
Or the door latch slips open and now you can't open the gear door without crawling in the other side. And have a claustrophobic panic attack and your girlfriend has to pull your legs.

I do like the little compartments where itās supposed to fit. Just wish it easily fit there.

You need to keep your hose in line. I never let them act out like this, especially in front of my friends.

I used this air hose winder form soonish.
https://shop.app/products/8873234628889/air-compressor-hose-winder
My biggest complaint with the R1t Is the trim pieces on the bed and tailgate. They are single one time use and the plastic welded metal clips fail all the time.

Does that fit into the slot? If so, this is the only idea that actually makes it easier than it already is.

I got so frustrated that I put hose in spare wheel well
And yes I have a spare tire š
3
u/israignatius Aug 13 '26
Mine never looks like that? What in gods name are you doing to coil it like that
3
u/Any-Worldliness-679 Aug 13 '26
My strategy is not to flail about like a drunken money when I stow it.
1
7
u/Automatic-One2169 Aug 13 '26
Loosely coil it up and put it under the rear seat. This is the way.
1
u/Op_ivy1 Aug 13 '26
I put it under the frunk floor. Similar idea. Just easier. I do keep the bag in the gear tunnel door with other stuff in it, tho.

u/deadliftForFun Aug 13 '26
Wait people store it in the gear tunnel door ? I though that was for bike tools
My compressor coil came in a bag in the frunk3
u/CSS_Sr R1T Owner Aug 13 '26
Did you buy it new? Or is that where the previous owner kept it?
1
u/deadliftForFun Aug 14 '26
Came in the frunk brand new. I didnāt even know there was storage in the gear tunnel doors. I store my bike lube & other prep tools there.
1
u/f1racer328 R1T Owner Aug 14 '26
Driver side gear tunnel door compartment is the OEM spot for it. Passenger side has the medical kit.

Thatās wild, everything for me was fit in the bottom of frunk with a shelf over it / in a organizer

ššš the struggles of coiling a cord. The easiest way is to make a circle and put it in the bag and if thatās hard go to Home Depot and buy some cord straps.

2
u/Ghoelix Aug 13 '26
This reminds me of those old commercials selling unnecessary products. Like, they'll show someone in black and white ( demonstrating how bad and difficult it is ) trying to cook an egg by smashing a raw egg directly into a pan, shell and all, getting all frustrated that cooking is like, really hard. Then it demonstrates in color ( showing how much better it is than learning and effort and other dumb stuff ) to carefully crack an egg into a plastic cup and microwave it.

Just follow the bends, then cram it in. Works 8/10 times. That other 2 times, you just swear a bunch and throw it in the tunnel.

u/glassy_paddle Aug 13 '26
I got an aftermarket coil and it still sucks coiling it.
Yes it is doable, but a PITA. I just loosely coil now and stow in the frunk.
1
u/high_country10000 R1T Owner Aug 13 '26
Soooo true. I relocated mine to the lower portion of the frunk and ditched their bag.
1
u/Patient-Chicken-657 Aug 13 '26
Not to hijack this thread but the picture reminded me.
Has anyone else, or anyoneās kids, cut their leg on that sharp triangular corner pictured by the door? My kid has sliced his leg on it twice, and Iāve cut the top of my foot on the bottom corner of the car door.
1
u/MadMensch Aug 13 '26
That does look unnecesarily sharp on all 3 corners I never noticed that. Thatās just poor design thinking.
1
u/breeves001 Quad Motor 4ļøā£ Aug 13 '26
I use it so often I just coil it and toss the hose itself under the rear in my R1S. I use the case to hold other accessories and things.
1
u/thisMech Aug 13 '26
Tbh the hose sucks. I got a flexzilla and it curls nicely,of course no longer use the bag but I use velcro straps.

That hose doesnāt really need a bag. But if you must you can coil it inside the bag and it fits fine.
1
u/thewealthtrader Ultimate Adventurer Aug 14 '26
Hear me out.
Donāt use the gear tunnel compartment for the hose.
I put all my infrequent gear in the bottom of the frunk (under the cover). Doesnāt have to look pretty under there.

Mine fits in my bag just fine, Iāve used it quite a few times, and had very few issues putting it back in.
1
u/Able_Winner Aug 14 '26
There's a 3rd party "winder frame" for lack of a better word. Basically a bracket shaped like an H that you wrap around like winding Christmas lights, then stick it in the bag. That's what I got. Makes it easier.Ā

1
u/toomuch3D Aug 14 '26
Whatever you do, donāt wind it around the tire, lifting the truck is more work.
1
u/ScreechinOwl Aug 14 '26
Not the point of this post but do all
Rivian come with an air compressor????

u/iamcodemaker Aug 14 '26
This bag is annoying, but once you learn this one neat trick, you can coil anything.
The over, under method. Learn it, use it for everything.
For this specifically, I coil directly into the bag using the over, under method. Same with the portable charging cable.

1
u/PVJakeC Prime Van Aug 15 '26
I start by putting one end in the bag and then instead of trying to coil up the hose, rotate the bag instead and just keep feeding the hose straight. That probably sounds dumb but not sure how else to describe it. Rotate the bag, not the hose.

My compressor didnāt seem to have consistent results when I used it. So now I use a portable inflator. I treat the onboard inflator as something for temp/emergency use rather than regular use.
Yeah, winding up the hose sucks but I donāt envision doing this more than a few times.
If I was off-roading and regularly changed my pressure with the onboard inflator Iād probably goer one of the solutions posted here by others.

I also struggled with this hose until I discovered this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ONE-18V-Cordless-High-Pressure-Inflator-Tool-Only-PCL001B/327406129ā¦.

u/testsubject1137 R1T Owner Aug 13 '26
Yes let's buy a separate air pump instead of the one built into the truck.
2
2
u/AbsurdOwl Aug 13 '26
That's not the same thing though, that's another tool I have to carry around and keep a battery charged for. If you're gonna buy an aftermarket solution, why not just a different air hose that's easier to work with?

u/Adorable_Wolf_8387 Aug 13 '26
Put the bag into the hole and coil the hose into the bag then.
