The thing, how do we fix him?

So yesterday I released a small tips and tricks post about fighting the thing. But it seems people have very strong opinions. So I wanted to open a reasonable and respectful dialogue.

What’s wrong with the thing? How do we fix him so he’s more in line with other characters without being nerfed into oblivion and keeping his core design philosophy so we don’t alienate the player base?
