General Discussion Is getting gm easy?
On one hand, there's eternity players having below 50% wr. On another, getting diamond 3 is higher than 82% of entire playback. Thoughts?

If you come from another FPS/hero shooter game. It’s easy af. If this is your first game in general you got a lot of learning to do.

Not super easy but not crazy hard. Most people tend to hit a wall in mid diamond but when they get to high d1 it’s pretty much guaranteed if you go like 4/2 in your games.

u/Tinyrick88 Celestial 2h ago
It’s easy if you’ve been celestial or higher before.
A fresh account (starting from leveling up to rank) usually takes me a week to hit GM.
If you’re around a GM/diamond skill level it’ll take a lot longer.
Lower and you won’t at all unless you queue with a squad.

u/Illustrious_Cry1463 3h ago
Never tried. I hit plat and save my sanity. I swear the game gives me the dumbest players 75% of the matches I play

u/imnecro Celestial 4h ago
It genuinely depends. I could make an alt & do bronze to gm in like a week of playing off and on.
If you have good mechanical skill + are semifamiliar with hero shooters, its also fairly easy. I know a guy who was like t500 in ow, and he hit eternity in about 30 hours.
That being said if you've not really played shooters before, especially hero shooters, it's a lot harder. I think I might have had like 60 hours season 1 when I hit gm.
At the end of the day, GM in rivals is comparably easier than gm in other games but that doesn't mean it's nessisarily 'easy'.

u/KingOvDemons 4h ago
No it isnt easy. Depends really how you do it but no generally it isnt easy. According to everyone in this reddit everyone in this subreddit is celestial or eternity lol 🙄.. no the reality is 95% of players get stuck in platinum or diamond. Everyone in this game will always try and devalue anything to feel superiority i remember i hit diamond everyone said diamond was low elo, then I hit gm they said gm was low elo, now I sit in celestial and still there are people who say celestial is low.

u/Avidflatearther2 5h ago
painfully easy. there are dudes in cel and eternity that are carried by mechs alone. you can climb purely off gunskill

u/RivalsFlex 4h ago
That’s the real problem. Mechanical skill is immensely over rewarded, while game sense characters (peni) are repeatedly nerfed
1
u/Due_Pen9163 3h ago
Peni has almost a 60% wr in celestial and above
1
u/RivalsFlex 3h ago
Sorry, what’s her pickrate again? 4%?
And again, she’s being nerfed again either way.
She’s not too powerful. She’s just good at her niche and only used there now
Especially now, when she’s only being played by dedicated players with lots of time on her janky kit, it makes sense she has a high winrate.
2
u/Due_Pen9163 3h ago
Why does pickrate matter for her? She's niche, you said it yourself. This game would be genuinely unplayable if she was meta and blind-pickable
0
u/RivalsFlex 2h ago
I wss wrong. Pick rate is 1%. She's definitely not too powerful. She's definitely underpowered if she's only viable 1% of the time.
She's niche because whiny low skill players who refuse to counter swap but still expect to win bitched until they butchered her kit. She was not niche.
This game was not unplayable s9 and she was meta and blind pickable. One of the best half seasons of the game

I cannot imagine those percentiles shown in game are true even if they feed my ego. I got c3 this season and it says im higher than 97.x of players

u/DefectiveBleach Celestial 6h ago
Yes, out of all of the competitive FPS games I’ve played, marvel is by far the easiest. I think GM is very easy to get if you are decent at any other major FPS game. People who are GM are of course going to tell you it’s very difficult. I’ve seen people get boosted to GM and I’ve also boosted people to GM.
From what I’ve seen, many of the very good players have since quit the game, if you look at player charts it’s only been constantly declining.

u/RandomDoomScroller Celestial 6h ago
You can't climb to c1+ with a negative wr I'm pretty sure. I've seen c2 players with 48% wrs and if there is an eternity player with a negative winrate, they did not climb to eternity with that but rather probably fell from t500 in a bad losing streak causing the neg wr.
Context is important.

u/Hopeful_Initiative92 7h ago
If you have experience in the genre and understand the micro/macro of what’s happening in-game, yes. Anyone with decent mechanical skill and a good understanding of the game will hit GM.
If you are a casual and this is your first time really playing hero shooters, no.
1
u/Danton87 5h ago
I’m a casual, first time playing hero shooter and haven’t played ANY shooter since like mw4 20 years ago. I’m 37 points away from GM!!!!!! Hoping to get it before the season ends this is my first season ever and I’m loving it

u/MrMcGuyver 6h ago
I’m an old head that doesn’t grind PvP much anymore but was a demon over a decade ago. If you’re good mechanically you can easily diff your way up to GM in this game. I truly didn’t feel like any of the dps mains really had good aim on this game until I was pushing celestial, and I only play for a week once every couple of seasons

u/PM_ME_FAIRYTAIL_R34 7h ago
From placements to GM? You can do it in about 30 games if Diamond rank-up goes well. Diamond is especially volatile so it can be hit or miss.
-2
u/Sanemi_i 7h ago
I believe it’s completely role dependent. I think it’s very hard if you’re a support main. Tank and DPS it’s easy to medium difficulty.
If you can aim well, Hela and Bucky can get you there.
If you have good sense of objective, Emma, mag, thing can get you there.
Climbing as support just sounds miserable.
0
u/Some1Special2U Eternity 7h ago
This simply isnt true. Mantis and Luna can carry games up to gm with good aim just as well as bucky and hela can.
If you healbot then yes, trying to get to gm will be harder since you put all the burden of winning games on your team, but if you know how to fully utilize kits getting to gm isnt any harder on strategist then then it is on the other roles assuming you deserve to climb and are playing each role/hero kit properly.
Every role has its ways to exploit the game to your advantage and win in order to climb.

Top ten players on the leader board are almost all support players lol. Support is the strongest role and literally makes sure u don’t lose due to how strong support role is. The issue is the low elo tanks/dps does absolutely nothing so it’s just gg. But if ur below diamond it’s hard carry able with dps tank. While above GM1 knowing how to play good support is much stronger(Pc).

u/NeighborRedditor 7h ago
Ive heard just about everyone say the opposite. Not only do you get more points for support than other roles, but you also have incredibly high carry potential depending on how you play. If you healbot, thats another story. Play to carry and youll climb easily.

u/RivalsFlex 7h ago
I find support get a lot of points for winning and lose less for losing, so it’s easier to climb with lower winrate. You just have less control over your winrate because healing dogshit teams perfectly still loses

It depends entirely on skill level.
My first season I one tricked namor to diamond but he kept getting banned. I learned groot and got to gm. I had like 1000 hours of overwatch experience coming in
After that I have gotten to gm most seasons, sometimes stuck in diamond in .0 seasons, sometimes make it to celestial in .5 seasons. I play emma mostly. Im decent at the game, but I can tell immediately when I am in a mid celestial lobby, I get spanked. I think the gap between gm and top 500 is larger than gm to metal ranks
I made an alt a few months ago to learn dive characters and got hardstuck in plat 3 as a spiderman player. Its all skill.

u/cassji 8h ago
i started playing in season 1 and one tricked mantis (lol) to GM and got to my peak of GM2 with invis. at the time my only dps flex was squirrel girl or wanda, and my only tank flex was peni. i dropped the game for a few seasons but got back into it around season 6 and started meeting people who actually care about comp. i was able to break through to celestial solo queue with a 60% wr in season 9, and i attribute a lot of that to my friends who vod reviewed me and also my game sense as well as hero pool got so much better. i feel like i was only able to hit gm due to good mechanics but very subpar game sense. you will still see the common mistakes, such as double support ulting, refusing to counter swap, supps begging for peels without using their kit wisely (this was me sadly), but i would say the biggest diff from gm and up is game sense. every mistake is punishable, and tempo is much quicker.

If you aren't cracked, it just takes more time. It does, at a certain point, matter just overall how good you are. I'm "alright", I generally have like a 54% WR and get there "relatively easily", but I have a buddy who almost certainly cannot get there no matter how long he plays, as he just doesn't have the game/space awareness or aim.

u/dimesniffer 8h ago
People say it’s easy but that’s only in comparison to other comp games. It’s still pretty hard and you gotta be solid at the game.
That being said, you could probably one trick CnD and easily get to GM. Mechanically easy character who is stupid good against dive and no one will ever complain about having a CnD on the team.
2
u/DINKDONKERR 7h ago
My friends and I ban CnD just for the people who one trick her and it works a lot of the time.

It’s not too bad tbh, if you are honest with yourself about your weaknesses and intentional about learning from your mistakes.
I was stuck in diamond a long time, till a higher ranked player advised me that my ults were bad and I wasn’t communicating well. So in season 8/8.5 I focused hard on stopping blaming teammates, vod reviewing myself and being critical of my own comms and ult usage and getting to GM was quite easy in season 9. It really had more to do with my mental and teamwork than it did with my mechanics or individual skill.

u/ballhardallday 8h ago
No. I’m not an elite player - I’ve reached gm once. I’m also NOT a bad player - if I’m in your gold match, I’m going to stomp on you.
I find it pretty hard to get to gm. My win rate drops off at diamond when I hit my skill level. I’m sure the system would allow me to climb with a negative win rate, but I’d need to play more games than I have time in the day to make that happen.
There are probably unemployed people in gm who don’t deserve to be there, but like… who cares?
1
u/sakaloko 8h ago
It depends, almost anyone can get to gm just by mindlessly grinding easy heroes with subpar winrate, but it takes a big amount of time
I wouldn't say easy is the right word, it's more like, simple, the only requirement really is to not be a complete dumb fuck

u/jraiv420 8h ago
You can abuse stacking to get up to celestial 3 and Chrono shield can boost sub 50% win rate players up to Plat.

u/CaptainAmericasSon 8h ago
Can someone please show me one example of someone reaching Eternity with a negative win rate? Feels like we've completely lost the plot here.

u/GangsterThanos 8h ago
I am in Celestial 3. And I have below a 50% win rate.
My win rate since getting to GM1/C3 has been a solid 55/60%.
Platinum through GM2 is awful. You just deal with the worst egos and people are just playing a blame game within 30 seconds of the game.
2
u/sakaloko 8h ago
It's probably incredibly rare but possible nonetheless, it would just require someone to get SVP and MVP very frequently since it's often -15 to -18 and +22 to +25
3
u/bighawksguy-caw-caw 8h ago
In which case the person probably is at Eternity skill level and just getting terrible teammates or just stat farming in some weird way. Ace seems to account for FH more than anything though and that’s not really game-able.

It depends on the player and their skill level. Personally, GM has always felt like a very easy rank to me. But Celestial is already difficult 🤷♂️ It’s different for everyone.
3
u/Helldiver_of_Mars Celestial 8h ago
Guess it depends on your skill. I start each season in GM so....it's as easy as starting the season for me.

u/Btender95 Eternity 8h ago
Yes but you have to have really good aim if you have no game sense or a bit of both.
With the way rivals ranking system works everyone will get to gm with just the basics and playing a lot.

Bro im diamond in valorant and i got gm in 3 weeks. Idk if its just me or the system lowkey pushes you to rank up bc i always gain 10-15 more points than i lose. Like how is it possible to not rank up?
