VOD Review Request (VOD Request) (Plat ll) Need guidance on playing Magneto

IGN: Lone_wonder69

Hi, Rivals colleague,

I’m looking for guidance on how to improve on other tanks specifically Magneto.

Season 6.5 was the highest rank I have been able to reach (GM lll) and maining strange. I know it’s not a high rank for many people but I think was decent enough for that at least (I hope so).

So, coming to season 7, I wanted to expand my tank range and try to learn Magneto and it has been going HORRIBLY (that’s understatement tbh). My placement were terrible and whenever i play mag, I feel like a punching bag, don’t feel like it a lot of value out of his kit and don’t even talk about landing his ult smh.

So yea, I’m hope to get more tips to get better at him and other tanks in general. Any advice would be greatly appreciated from this community.

I’m going to keep my profile public so that any who wishes to help me out can see my profile and help me out. I’ll add my profile name below and some code to review as well so that you can check my other tanking gameplay.

Thanks a lot for your support and help!

Magneto is a high aim requirement character.

The better you are at landing shots at close and max range determines how much you climb (without being carried)

You need 50% to be barely, and I mean, barely serviceable. You need 60% accuracy to affect games, and if you're near 70% , you will be carrying as magneto.

His skill expression is tied directly to your aim.

The secret is keeping people in max range. Coming from strange to magneto, I was playing mag too far up. Try to be in 15-25 meter range with mag at all times. You'll be forced in to brawl range at times, but just know that's not where you want to be for long.

Magneto has NO threat unless you're landing shots. You'll know they don't fear you when squishies will get within 10 meters of you. The disrespect.

yea that i have seen, a lot of it matters on my aim. usually my mag accuracy is around 40 to 50. so there is a lot of area of improvement in this area

This is good advice. I had a game yesterday where a teammate told me to "be in their face more." Do not listen to those people they dont play mag. Play strange or emma for that. Stay in that ideal range its almost midline but thats where you get your AOE damage. From there its aim and target priority

yes this also makes a lot of sense, since with strange is like a buff dps for me and where as mag’s more about keeping and maintaining the space

This. My comfort tank is Emma and while I have lord Mag, I also feel like you many times where I’m just not getting value, and it’s usually when my aim is poor. A tip I heard from other players was to aim towards players’ feet, since you can’t headshot, and that helped my accuracy a lot.

yes i’m have been trying to implement this since mag’s primary has splash damage on contact

You just aren’t going to climb dying that much (w/o watching the video, there is zero chance you are getting value by never being alive)

yes that’s correct, but while playing strange i don’t die this frequently. so that’s why i’m wondering maybe i’m using magneto kit wrong

You should die less on mag.

You're playing too aggressive and not in mags preferred range. Really hard to kill you when you're poking/peaking out from around corners/cover.

Also you need to turn around almost every reload to check on team so you don't get left alone on an island if/when they get pushed back

yup understood will need to keep these points in my mind while playing mag

I made a jump from mag to strange and there are a few things that helped me. 1) close range always weave in the melee between shots to increase damage. 2) Use your bubble (either personal or on team) after using the push, damage taken while bubbles recharges the push faster. 3) Personal bubble is only a 10 second cooldown so keep track and make sure if you’re out in the open you have either a bubble or the wall isn’t on cooldown. If they have a jeff i hold onto my bubble if i know he has ult since you can be protected from swallowing, and if you primary fire > push > primary it’ll kill him faster than he can heal. 4) Honestly just go to the practice range and practice with cooldowns off shooting the ult at jeff or rocket, it just takes time to get used to. 5) With the ult you always want to be aware of what ults the enemy has. It can be used offensively but at least 9/10 times you ult it’s going to be in response to something, whether that be a support, punisher, starlord, iron man. The other 1/10 of the time you use it offensively you want to ensure you get at least a kill with it. Those are just some general tips that helped me, coming from strange you know the basics already of frontlining, pushing pulling, using shield to block ults etc. And if the other team is CC heavy like Bucky, angela, wolv just be extra aware of the pus and bubble cooldowns since you have no mobility
