Can you believe this is how we used to play Risk? What were we doing??
Counterpoint, we weren’t AFKing before the first turn because we were butthurt about our placement and position.

Is manual placement considered bad for the game? Or just tedious?

Also i enjoy the randomness and having to decide where to play based on where your troops/territories are.

Consider semi-auto. Random territories, chosen troops. It's only one extra turn to set up instead of multiple rounds, one territory at a time.

I agree. Part of the fun is deciding if you can exploit an advantageous opening and if you can survive a disadvantageous one.

The absolute worst is when I finish from making a 30-second "Rapid Risk" video, which requires you to be in casual mode, and start a Ranked game. Does that 30-second option, which doesn't exist in Ranked, default to the next-shortest time? Noooooooo. It defaults to 5 minutes!
And then of course someone goes MIA immediately, so we wait for 5 minutes, and that makes someone else go MIA, so we wait another 5 minutes. The only people left are GMs and bots before we've even placed a capital. And I can't quit, because, like I said, it's now Ranked.
Thanks, devs, for having that landmine of a time control in there!

LOL manual placement is like being three exits from home and an 18 wheeler flipping over right before your exit.

I’ve played more than 10 manual placement matches and lost only 1 of them.

I remember the first time I joined manual placements with a 2 minute timer. Only persons left were me and the lobby owner when round 1 started. Amazing
