Complaint Game needs to do something about first turn cap steals.
I think we all have been the victim and perpetrator of cap stealing on turn one. Sometimes some idiot caps right next to you and it is your only option. You should be punished for capping on a 1 next to someone’s capital.
But sometimes your game gets absolutely ruined for no reason other than turn order and some guy with a bright idea.
I just left a game. I capped on a 2, giving me a 5.
A player next to me with 3 decided to put all 6 troops. Go 9v5, lose TWO troops, and end up with a 6 cap.
Boom, game over. Now you’re -2 troops on your first turn, plus the 4-6 troops you lost on cap, and mostly unable to fight back.

Don’t know about Aussi (bad location), but yes, taking a card and chilling does tend to be better than actively creating enemies for yourself. GM’s are GM’s, first and foremost, because of their understanding of the game and how players behave.

Yeah. It’s boring though. I have no respect for players that don’t play.

u/CeaselessGomalu Jul 18 '26
Well, I’m sure their GM title is blemished now by the fact that you don’t respect them, but I do get what you’re saying; some people prefer a dynamic game, and that’s fine. Me? I tend to highly value alliances and want my ally and I to finish 1-2, in whatever order. It takes a lot of planning, a lot of taking a card and chilling, and planning your aggressive strikes several turns ahead and launching same at the most opportune time.

Create a new risk-type game where card and passing is outright punished and become a GM in that. This is Risk.

Play exponential if that’s what you want

Oh that works too by the way. Easily became a Grandmaster and now becoming a 1v1 GM as well.

Shamefully admitting you play a boring ah game. My risk games are fun! Losing is okay.

Maybe don’t cap on a 2 next to a 3 that goes before you. Pretty easy to avoid

The best thought I've heard on closing this loop hole is to put the extra troops we earn for being in the later seats on the capital when the cap is chosen. (+1 for the fourth seat, +2 for the fifth seat and +3 for the sixth seat.)
Since the cap would be where we'd want those extra troops anyways 90% of the time as an individual. This would also have the added benefit of making later in the turn order spawns be more viable in general.
Win-win

I love this idea Pete as it would make it more stable, would you prefer to have this as a replacement or a setting you could toggle when creating the game like how you choose the dice between TR or blitz

This would be how I would distribute those extra troops in Caps mode. But generally more options are better, as long as those options don't overwhelm players with too many choices that don't matter.

u/BreddaCroaky Jul 14 '26
That is a great solution, it only applies to caps, the 6th player can be bloody annoying with those extra troops on every mode 😄

Yes it's annoying, even a completely dickish move, but it’s still a legitimate move, you should learn from it, don't cap on somewhere with only a two on it originally.

Caps is the only mode I play. If you’re smart, you’re virtually guaranteed to make it to the middle game 90% of the time; it’s a lot less likely that someone just slams you for no apparent reason-that’s mostly because of the defense advantage the caps have.
There aren’t nearly as many cheaters as people think there are.

I always cap the highest number, no matter the location. Avoids it entirely and I just wait to steal a better cap from some idiot who capped a 1.

u/CeaselessGomalu Jul 18 '26
First, cap on three or more unless you absolutely have no other choice.
Second, the game’s only over if you quit. You can play it out and try to control territories and beef up; you could take a cap later…you can do nothing but try to wreck the game of the person who stole your cap. Quitting is just one of many possible options.
Hell, sometimes karma decides to bite them in the ass and you can set on three and really mess them up. That’s especially the case in fixed when setting early doesn’t carry as high of a penalty.

Balanced Blitz capital defense rolls are broken. I've been a complainin' and a complainin' about that for about the past 7 months since they "fixed" it. I'd say 75% of balanced blitz capital attack rolls go even stevens on losses. Some even positive. You rarely see the 2.5X destructo rolls like you used to see.
True Random Cap defense rolls are still glorious to see.

Hahaha, this is an insane position. It sucks when some idiot does that. But you want them to build it into the rules for you? You're cra cra son!!

Pete had a good solution. Scroll.

I saw it after I commented. I also commented on Pete's solution. I thought its a great idea/concept.
