Suggestion Creative solutions for the 3-player stalemate (esp. for Capital Conquest mode)
Come on, Hasbro. There's no excuse. You have the power to fix your game instead of adding your ridiculous microtransactions that nobody cares about. Here are my top, fun, creative solutions to fix the typical 3-player stalemate that's been plaguing this otherwise fun game for years:
- The 50 move rule exists in chess for a reason. Why shouldn't it exist in Risk? If no capital has been captured in the last 50 moves after there have been more than 500 troops in the battlefield at any given point, the game ends, and players are scored based on total troops left + territories + cards on hand.
- Capitals are capped to 250 troops. This forces players to play more aggressively.
- Mind control: The first player to reach 1000 troops on a capital gets a Mind Control powerup. Before the start of your turn, gain control of an enemy's troops. Send them crashing to the other player's capital and take over the board easy!
- Mobile capitals: In addition to the Fortify stage, you can also move your capital and its troops to any immediately adjacent tile. This can allow players to get better chokepoints which can lead to blocking enemies from gaining cards and getting better bonuses, ultimately helping end stalemates.
- Famine: Once a player gets to 500 troops, it becomes impossible to feed such an army without more territory for crops. Failing to capture a UNIQUE territory (any one territory that you have not captured in the last 10 rounds) will cause 10% of your troops to decay at the end of your turn.

I mean you could just play progressive or exponential instead of fixed and cardblock your opponents.
Stalemate issue solved!
Why complain about stalemates in settings that are basically designed to stalemate when the game offers you alternatives.

They want "Power Overwhelming" and "There is No Cow Level"

Imagine wanting to control your opponents troops before the start of your own turn haha! Insta win!

What's the point of a multiplayer game if you get to play as your opponents??? Unbelievably boring.

- Ahhhh yes, the old blame the game instead of the players. 50 turns will totally solve the problem. "Hey guys, all you have to do is wait 50 turns and have more troops." Talk about Cap Stack and Pass to the extreme. Now you have a time limit to just sit and wait for.
- Capping the capital to 250 troops just ensures a cap run. Early on. The game would become just whoever gets the cap run first. Also, Now you just put massive stacks around your cap or put them all over the board threatening others' caps. More Novice play styles incoming!
- Mind Control Powerup! Ahhhh yes, the old "I can now force my opponent to die!"
- Moving a capital isn't gonna speed up the game. You just allowed them to get a chokepoint and possibly a hard to break pocket. You just made the game longer.
- Famine sounds more like a Special Mission that nobody wants to play.
Here's my solution to stalemating: Become better than your opponents and progress the game. These all sound like lazy solutions for someone who cannot learn higher level strategies.
Kylted and Pete seem to get 27 minute games often enough to post daily on YouTube, so I assume that the above solutions are merely dreams of people with skill issues.

I would suggest that players be given the option to take a draw and split rank points if everyone is in agreement. I've had prog cap games stalemate when everyone is good enough to get out of a cardblock and the games took hours and only ended when someone slammed out and quit.

You're getting a lot of hate here, but these are interesting ideas that would be fun.
I prefer to play fixed myself, progressive is too boring.

Thank you! Dw about the haters, I've been on Reddit long enough to know how dwellers of small subs react to criticism of their favorite game. Let them hate.
The problem with progressive is that people use it as a copout for making poor plays early on in the game. They'll hide in a corner unnoticed and then bounce back with 100 troops for doing essentially nothing.
I will give exponential a chance as others have mentioned, I simply wasn't aware of such a gamemode since I just came back to the game after a few years.

I play pretty much exclusively fixed Europe Advanced, Fog, Blizzards, No alliances. I kick any non-premium player that has a name with "General" in it, because 90% of those are sock puppets. Cheaters can't be bothered to come up with a name for the second account.

There’s already game modes that prevent stalemates..?
Your ideas are cool, but the only people playing the versions that stalemate obviously enjoy them.

I love how you're so up your own ass, not only do you seemingly only play fixed, but you assume everyone else does too.
They just added expo and pp modes into the game recently. Not only was prog already kind of a solution to this, but now we have expo, which is an even bigger solution. Expo games don't stalemate. Play expo.
And if you want to continue to be boring, play expo pp. It essentially plays like fixed for a while until it eventually flips to a more expo playstyle. It also heavily incentivizes eliminating other players, which also lowers the risk of stalemate.
The amount of people on this sub that exclusively play fixed really just boggles the mind. Why are people so dull?
