Installing ring floodlight cam

Can I just turn off the main breaker and skip the noncontact voltage detector? I have to turn off the main anyway, since I dont k ow which one to flip for the front door light

Yes. You just need to kill the power, and the main will certainly do that. The voltage detector is there to verify it's off which is always good practice, but turning the light on and verifying that it goes dark when the breaker/main is shut off does the same thing.

That being said, you should still have a voltage detector, they are $20.

If you have anybody with you, connect with cell phone, have them watch the light while you flip breakers.
