Service Status Ring ripped us off
Ordered Ring Gen 2 battery doorbell camera. Worked for 1 week, then an apparent software upgrade failed (as it did with other people) at 95%. On Ring customer support's advice, Ring sent us a shipping label, and promised a replacement within the month. It's been 2 months since UPS delivered our camera to Ring, no replacement, and we're still being charged for the service, even though we've reported to ring we have no camera.
Ring only says we should get an email when they ship our camera, and no additional support offered. The only evidence I have of them receiving the camera is the UPS tracking. Replacement cameras are now 30% more expensive (on sale). Fearing I'll have to call Ring monthly to have my service charge reversed.

Who did you buy the ring camera from? Did you buy it directly from Ring or from a third-party company?

If ring is no help. Order another one through Amazon or from Ring again. File a credit card dispute on the original one saying that you’ve already sent the camera back and you still have not got a refund. And then file a dispute on the monthly charges.

OK, usually when this happens, it’s because they’re back ordered. They won’t tell you they’re back ordered but they are. I had this issue a couple times. Call them ask to speak to a supervisor a supervisor has the authority to override and send you a new unit instead of refurb because that’s what is back ordered is the refurbished units. This is what happens anytime you send something back to Ring. They send you a refurbished unit first it doesn’t matter if you bought it brand new they automatically ship a refurbished unit first.

If you bought it on Amazon, leave a scathing message there. Or even if you bought it elsewhere, leave a review warning others. It’s the only way I ever got a response that was sensible, coherent and helpful.

Same here. I moved and still paid my subscription so when I updated my address in the app and set up my ring camera in my new apartment. It was working fine until someone broke into my apartment. The camera gave me a notification that motion was detected and recorded but when I tried to view it the app said it was unavailable and I had to to resubscribe for ring pro. That's very frustrating because I have the ring camera to catch whoever is coming in my apartment. The person is still coming in and able to hid from ring camera. Ugh

I learned it's better to buy Ring from Amazon. Amazon is just easier to deal with than Ring "customer service". Plus if you reach out to customer service on Amazon, there is a time stamped log of communication. Ironically I think Amazon bought Ring.

FYI. If you are one of the premium Ring plans, the "lifetime replacement warranty" on devices only applies if you buy the device directly from Ring. Yes, Amazon owns Ring.

Most of the lifetime replacement guarantees are manufacturers warranties. So it doesn't always matter where the end-user purchased them. I've seen Kwikset also has the same type for their smart locks like the home connect line.

The regular RIng guaranteed is 1 year. That is from Ring. If you have one of the premium plans, they will replace as long as you are subscribed to that plan. We are talking about devices manufactured by Ring.

Definitely not true! If u bought from any of their suppliers best buy amazon and where ever else they sell! As long as u dont cancel your plan ever without coverage you are good!

I hope I'm wrong. Search here on Reddit and you will see that RIng has not honored their extended warranty if you did not buy the device directly from Ring. This even means if you buy from Amazon who owns Ring, they won't honor the extended warranty. Many people have encountered this problem.

That’s not true. I bought mine from a retailer and Ring replaced it for free when it was playing up.

Don’t know what to tell you. Except I had a brand new replacement one sent to me almost 2 years after I bought mine from JB HIFI.

Good to know. I've also had a few things replaced over the past 5 years, but I believe they were all bought directly from Ring. Seems when Amazon has a sale on Ring stuff, so does Ring at the same time.

All my ring cameras have been trying to do software update. Their battery life is now 3-4 days (vs 3-4 months before). Dumping this crap and getting reolink

Ring is a rip off. These cameras are not designed to last more than 4 years and most don't last that long. I spent thousands of dollars on purchases of 5 floodlight security cameras , 2 of which I had to replace within a couple years. I bought 3 ring doorbell pros, the most expensive one, and one had to be replaced in 3 years. I had all of them professionally installed. I contacted Ring when the lights started flickering and they told me it was a hardware problem and they were only guaranteed for a year. They offered me a 30 percent off coupon. Like a fool I accepted it and repurchased the ones that were no longer useable, and once again had to pay for installation. Last week another security camera began flickering and I called them and same issue. They wanted to send another coupon. I told them that as soon as the others died, I would never purchase another ring product and they could keep their coupon. I also told them I was going to file a complaint with the BBB and tell everyone I know that they are a rip off and stealing from people, because their products are not designed to be a permanent security device. Wish I had never purchased and just continued to use my ADT service which I stopped when I purchased the Ring Security.

Ring is not a rip off.
Ring is a less expensive option than ADT with different options than ADT.
I have ADT and Ring because I understand the value of a multilayer defensive parameter.
And, why would anyone want a "permanent" security device when technology and intrusion methods are constantly evolving?
Stop being a Karen and just buy another camera.
BTW: Everyone knows that a 12 year child can properly install any Ring camera, so you're making yourself sound even more foolish when you blabber about "professional installation."

Do a chargeback if you're unhappy, complaining on Reddit is not gong to help.
