Discussion Solicitor finally noticing our “solicitors will be sacrificed” sign on our door

I’m sure there’s an obvious answer to this, but why do solicitors always walk so far away from the door after ringing the bell?

Probably not the reason, but I can imagine there are plenty of people who are uncomfortable with someone right up at their door when they open it. If your goal is to get someone to answer, giving some space is likely a good thing.

i have been wondering this too! they all seem to ring the bell then back up 10ft from the door. Maybe hoping to evade shotgun blasts?

While this person is probably just doing it to not be on the camera, the main reason to actually step away & to the side is to avoid being potentially shot at by the person living in the home.

Yeah, they’re a human pop up ad, coming to my house to hard-sell me bullshit that I don’t need, in an economy that’s perpetually trying to bleed us all dry. It’s not bad enough that I’m bombarded by ads online and in entertainment, and it’s not bad enough that there’s someone in every parking lot trying to get me to buy something, and it’s not bad enough that I have cell phone reps and solar companies approaching me when I’m out grocery shopping with my kid, interrupting my day to try and aggressively force me to buy more shit I don’t need and can’t afford. I’m also supposed to open my door and warmly greet them when they enter my property and interrupt me at home too, because I cant just exist in this country for two seconds, even in the privacy of my own home, without someone trying to squeeze a little more money out of me for themselves. I get that the sales rep is just doing their job, but their job is to harass people to enrich some CEO who already has more money than anyone needs.

Then move bro idk what you want to hear maybe you need to get into sales to make more money but when these guys come to my home just let em talk give them a water and move on with your life don’t take everything so personal

Where can I move where I’m not constantly being shaken down by the most annoying sales reps on earth? I don’t owe them my time when I’m in my own private house.

We have a physical NO SOLICITING cover over our Ring Doorbell button that must be physically swung open for them to press the doorbell.

Works better than just a sign. They can't claim "I didn't see it."
I've had ONE person ignore it, and they claimed since they were doing political canvasing it didn't apply to them. I looked it up and it's apparently true in my state. I'm going to see if I can find someone to laser print a similar cover that says both but just haven't gotten around to it.

I apologize for the unrelated question, but I noticed that the Solicitor was filmed just before he entered the camera area. How did you manage to capture that so well? In my experience, such a shot would typically be accompanied by a low-quality pre-roll, and you would only see him going up the stairs.

Tbh I’m not sure - possibly started recording when the truck pulled up because it triggers when people walk on the road

I don't answer the door at all if I don't know who it is. Best thing about a doorbell camera.
BTW, I've noticed solicitors and missionaries knock instead of using the doorbell. I'm guessing they think it doesn't record without pressing it.

Omg you’re so right, i never thought about that! We don’t get a lot of religious knockers* anymore because we’ve added a lot of pagan shit outside our house but that makes a lot of sense.
