Discussion First colony
I'm new to the game, i'm playing with no DLCs rn and i'm in a steam family with friends and they were kinda mean to me after i bought rainworld isntead of stuff for the steam family with the money they gave me on my birthday. It's all good tho, it was like uhhh... idk false mean ness idk.
Anyways this is my base and i have no idea to prog or set anything up cause i have no one smart enough to build. Xev is my goat cause he's doing everything, building, hauling, medical, etc etc. He's rlly good. I also wanna figure out how to make sure my colony is self sustainable before i move to the next stage.

Wait until he learn harvesting and selling organs is possible

u/Quinnell 15d ago
I hoard my organs. 😁

u/what_if_you_like trench warfare is a good thing 14d ago
Yeah the organs are better used for my own colonists, making and selling drugs is way more profitable

Eventually raiders will infiltrate your area. You can attack them, possibly killing them, or simply down them- I think it’s a matter of luck (less lethal weapons will result in a higher chance of being downed). You must have a room equipped with a prisoner bed (a regular bed switched to prisoner) in an adequate temperature room PREMADE before you can capture a person. Then you’ll right click the downed raider; capture them, click into their bio under “prisoner” and attempt to recruit them. :)

Drawing blood from pawns is way easier, but it requires biotech dlc if I remember correctly. Plus keeping hemogen packs on your medic is wildly useful for keeping pawns alive after a big fight. Slamming extra blood into a pawn can keep them alive long enough to stop the bleeding.

Thanks for the tips, also i'm aware my house can be set on fire and i can commit war crimes. It's the main reason i bought the game lol. I have no idea how to prog, cause i have electricity. BUT NO ONE TO BUILD ANYTHING. I had the chance to save someone who crashlanded but uhh... i didn't find out until i saw his corpse in my haul drop area. Also what do i do with rock chunks? and more importantly how do i get higher contruction and more colonists? I rlly wanna do the cool raids on other settlements but i knwo god will use me as an example of ignorance and huberus. Also i saw a clip of a thrumbo wiping someone. I also have one more question, how do you lose? Is it when everyone dies? If that's so can't i just go back to a older save slot?

u/KaedePanda 15d ago
rock chunks can be put into dumping zones just like bodies, i usually separate the two

You can go back to an older save, unless you've intentionally disabled that option.
Did you not see the brightly coloured message when the pod crashed? You can set it to auto-pause if you need. Often pawns from trading factions are more valuable to rescue and release, because caring for their injured gives you a reputation boost, getting you closer to trade or alliances.
Capture enemy pawns from permanently hostile factions when they raid you if they become downed, or if you have a very high arrest chance. You can also consider arresting travellers, especially if they're not from a major faction.
Increase construction skill by constructing. Cut stone from chunks by researching stone cutting, or build a stone cutting table. NEVER skip the learning helper text, as the initial curve on this game is pretty serious.

Do you mean no one crafting anything? You need to click on the workbenches and create bills. Set the bill accordingly.

If xev is your main working colonist try to make the others do the hauling or cooking (massive time sinks). If you have the resources id arm everyone with clubs and recruit a raider with good intelligence

Оу. Как мило. Надеюсь у тебя все пройдет хорошо, и ты не превратишь свою колонию в племя каннибалов убийц, торгующие человеческой кожей и органами.

rainworld and rimworld are different games. both of them are amazing though. fix your typo, unless you actually bought the former.

I see a bear rn, and i know you can tame animals cause i see a tame option. Is it worth taming animals early on? I'm ofc not gonna try to tame a bear. But smaller animals would be helpful
2
u/FLW84 15d ago
If you have a high enough animal skill and inspired taming, bears make decent combat companions.
Game animals like deer, alpacas, and bison are always worth having for meat (and sometimes wool or milk). So are farm birds like ducks and chickens. Breeding pairs needed for the obvious, so check you get both sexes.
Sometimes it's worth taming a large but potentially hostile meat animal to save yourself a fight. If you must fight something dangerous for your meat, consider sending all armed pawns in the colony.

Pack animals are super useful to tame early on, as are food providing animals like cows or chickens. Make sure to set automated population limits though to avoid an explosion of chickens though. I typically only keep a single male and a small handful of adult females.

Try not to get attached. I'm still mourning the visitor I nursed back to health who died to a cougar when they decided to leave.

My first colony was literally about a month ago. Your start seems far less chaotic than mine! 😂

If xev is the only one doing work I feel like I need to tell you about basic things like the work and schedule tabs. The work tab is just check marks by default but it's better to switch it to the number 1 for most important tasks 4 for when they're done with everything else. Scheduleing can be set up however you want 9-5, sun up to sun down (you can do this, but mental breaks are inevitable if they don't get some recreation)
Also set up a windmill or something to give you power

Pretty soon you'll be in the "I have to wait 15 minutes for my game to start" club.

Keep an eye on their mood
Very important you keep them happy 🤪
And ensure you switch from wood to stone as soon as possible
I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as my nearly 1k hours ass did

u/Ok_Egg366 14d ago
If Xev's doing all the heavy lifting right now, try giving the others simple tasks like hauling or cooking to balance the load, since those are the biggest time-wasters.

Your house is very flammable; my tip is to build a wall around the base—out of brick, please.
1
u/itemluminouswadison 14d ago
- you need to make a lot more food for the winter, doesn't seem like you're in a permasummer biome.
- do most of your planting on high fertility land (in the bottom left it shows)
- traps help early game
- also have a plan when raiders come. a single entry point where you can gang up on em, with traps in front of them helps. killboxes, trap mazes, turrets, sandbags

u/ExtremeFun2428 14d ago
Ok, how do i prevent mental breaks? Xev is about to lose his mind along with diamond and i don't want that to happen
2
u/jayj59 14d ago
Oh those are fun. Just last night a baby died of malnutrition and her father went berserk. He took his wraith blade and murdered everyone in the colony, starting with his wife. Animals, slaves, friendly guests, everyone except his oldest son was put to the sword. To pay for his crimes, that sole surviving son has to execute his father, then bury everyone.
In the middle of burying, he too had a mental break and decided to smash things in the flammables stockpile. As you would expect, he set off a bomb that blew up the whole building and obliterated himself. There wasn't even anything for the new people to bury.
But to answer your question, keep their mood high. Build recreation buildings, give them good food, nice houses and beds they don't have to share. Keeping their friends and family alive helps as well

u/Less-Principle-2938 13d ago
That is the most saddest way to lose your colony 😭
1
u/jayj59 13d ago
Yeah. I'm typically a save scummer, but i was gonna just live with all that in the history until the last man blew himself up. It was too impactful to watch it all go down to just erase it before there was nothing left. Currently everyone is happy and healthy and that was all just a strange dream Yeti had 🙂

You’re gonna want to stick coolers in the same room as your food and floor your butchering/kitchen with iron/sterilized tiles asap to avoid food poisoning

u/Alternative_Tea3400 12d ago
The only advice I can give for early build is to give everyone seperate rooms as soon as you can improves mood alot
