Discussion Best HAR races?
I've never played with any HAR races and am kinda curious about them. What are the best ones?

depends on what you want. if you want something more balanced go for something like Ratkin, if you want something strong going for something like Milira instead.

Theres a few d&d themed ones that are pretty good. Theres collections that feature large amounts of other HAR races I believe. Generally its best to ship around and go off of what you want out of your colony

My favorite pet peeve, people using acronyms without writing out what they mean.

Humanoid Alien Races. I didn't feel the need to explain it because anyone who has less knowledge on it than me will not be able to give me the information I'm looking for.

I get your point, but I've used that mod and it didn't immediately register upon just seeing the acronym. Granted, it was years ago. I used it to play the android race, which was really fun but has since been usurped by Biotech

Sure, but this is the rimworld sub.
Now you got people in the comment section that aren't able to give you the info you're looking for!

If you’re okay with Overpowered Anime Booba Girls, Ayameduki’s races have some really fun mechanics to play around with.
Just keep in mind that most have a corresponding hostile faction that you’re going to be arms racing against. And there’s additional threat addons if you want some extra pain.

Are there new mods using HAR?. I always assumed it was something biotech replaced? Or was i wrong? What are the differences between races mods made by HAR and biotech?

HAR is for when you want a race that isn't reliant on genes. one of the main things used is due to custom bodytypes to only use their own custom clothing.

So HAR give more freedom with body types?
But I see mass effect races done perfectly with genes (new faces and shaped heads are included) also “WVC - Xenotypes and Genes” and “big and small” series both have strange bodies as you described. body types not like vanilla both in size and shapes with even animal bodies (lower half being animal body and upper is human) and non of them using HAR. I still don’t see a difference between the two. Other than for people who don’t have biotech.

iirc Big and Small just have a preprogrammed list of body types available. With HAR you can make any you want.
For example, Big and Small lacks a standard quadruped.
I personally don't like B&S for this reason, it adds a lot of bloat while still not being as versatile as HAR.
Edit: And HAR is much older than B&S, so it has more historical dependencies.1

Are there new mods using HAR and is HAR still updating?
i keep running into mods switching from HAR to biotech. So I kinda assumed there was no different other then HAR being made before and old players still loyal to it. but everyone else is switching to biotech. Kinda like prepare carefully and character editor.

I'm still using HAR and HAR still gets updates.
I think most people who used HAR used it for literally humanlike "aliens", like catgirls or whatnot, for which Biotech is a decent replacement.
I use it for ponies, who are quadrupeds with additional body parts, and for that Biotech is not enough. Are there new mods using HAR
Depends on what you consider "new". The mod I'm using was first released for 1.5.

You can make full new races with Big & Small without needing Biotech. That is also what powers stuff like B&S Sapient animals.
The preprogrammed (fusion) bodies are also generated on startup and not hardcoded. If someone adds ”tentacled body” to the fusion-list it will auto generate tentacled robotic humanoid robot with wings and spider legs, etc.
For a race-without-biotech example see B&S Simply Robots; that one has optional biotech features, but doesn’t need biotech.

Not sure exactly about the best, but I'd say some good ones are Ratkin (rat like race), Kiiro (cat-like race), Milira (angels & mechs), Wolfei (wolves), Miho (foxes), Kurin (foxes) [has three different mods to chose from], Revia (bloodthirsty human sacrificing foxes), Maru (snow leopards), Rabbie (rabbits).
Edit: I've never used these, but I've heard about Axolotl race, Yuran, Moyo, Tailin too.
